  1. Hi there, No, no compatibility probs that I know of. This is one of the best programmed games I know of, so I think the prob is elsewhere. This sounds stupid, but does your comp recognize your new video card? Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager and look under your graphics card. If it's looking for an .inf file, that sounds driver related to me. Get a geek buddy to come over and fix it is my solution. Make sure you have lots of cookies, candy, chips, Coke etc on hand before you invite him over. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  2. medlinke said: Actually, The propaganda posters will get a new one each week. So look for a new one on Sunday or Monday. I am thinking that perhaps I'll do it like a thumbnail...so people can get a bigger poster if they want. --------------------------- Yep... that's what I want. Cheers. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  3. I really like the propoganda posters myself. When is that section gonna be up? ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  4. ...and I too would like to see 2 sets of explosion graphics. One, which integrates some of the fantastic ideas presented here to increase realism. And two, a set that causes absolutely every armored vehicule that dies to go up in a catastrophic explosion. Yes. (edit) Sig said: I'm serious here: if we insist on modelling perfectly, say the zimmerit pattern on a Tiger, we should also have the same attitude toward sound and "light effect". Logical, no? -------------------------------- This is one of the most right on things I've ever read on this forum. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 03-02-2001).]
  5. It's amazing how many marital problems can be solved by a little advance planning. Take me and my girlfriend. I established my reputation as a video game addict and total sleazebag with her right from the very start. Over months I cultivated this image while we were dating. Actually, this was the easy part, cultivating the image. I just had to be myself. I ignored her to play Half-Life, was late for rendezvous because I was downloading terrain mods, farted in bed, etc etc etc. Once she was good and indoctrinated, it was much easier to make a good impression on her. For example: Sometimes I stop playing CM for 1 hour and play with the kid instead. My girlfriend is so incredulous that I would stop playing video games for ANYTHING, that the 1 hour playing with the kid makes a KILLER impression on her. This makes her think that maybe, just maybe, I might someday be more than just a shapeless blob hunched over the monitor, screaming 'NO! The other way!' at my Shermans. This simple gesture frees me up to do what I want for literally weeks. Planning, foresight, analysis. It works in CM and it can work in this domaine as well. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  6. Jeff, very good insight as to why CM is a DL monster. Thanks for that. I'm with Olle here. There's just TOOOO MUCH out there to DL it all. Reminds me of Total Annihilation. When I was active with that game I remember when the first 3rd party map came out. There was no editor, somebody just figured out how to do it. EVERYONE DL'ed that map cause it was the first one. It was a really bad map, no fun at all, but everyone got it cause it was the first one. Now there are like 10,000 maps for TA, and you need a site like TAMEC to review and classify so the player doesn't waste his time DLing a bunch of crappy maps. Actually, I think the overall level of mod quality for CM is quite high, so this is not so much a question of downloading poor quality mods. It's more like, 'A full set of hi-res terrain graphics is 8 mega (or whatever) in size. So, before I download, I'd like to know, which one is best?' This is a reasonable demand I think, and Kump's site was the first to address this problem by giving the potential downloader the chance to see it in the game compared to the stock BTS version. At the same time he raved about mods he liked, so you kind of got a review of the mod too. I think in the future someone may try to do a site about mods like TAMEC, where you can get some serious skinny about the mod BEFORE you download. The mod situation is getting to the point where something like this is needed. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  7. I will second the "watch out for Private Pike" post. He's really not bad, as my shell-shocked, barely alive troops will attest to. His main problem is a lack of confidence. I have about 15 emails from him with one tiny sentence scribbled: 'Well, I haven't lost yet.' Either that or, 'Hurry up with that turn, you jerk.' But no matter. Whoever is unlucky enough to play him will realize what an incredibly nice guy he is, which will make that unfortunate person feel terrible for kicking his butt. Go ahead and do it anyway. Too bad I missed the National League. Sign me up for the American League if there is one. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time

  10. Yeah... I played a game with it last night and there is a real problem when a lot of units end up in the same place. Bigger than 1000 points and I think this mod would become a nightmare. I will keep it on my machine for a while anyway and see what I think. The screen doesn't do it justice because in the game you are much more concentrated than when you look at a screen. What looks like a mess in the pic is a lot of times more clear when you're actually playing. Usually I will get to a point where I just say, 'no'. I'm not there with this mod yet, but pretty close. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  11. The link has been fixed. Olle, thanks for the heads up. The rest of you, sorry for the inconvience. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  12. Funny this popped to the top like this... there IS an update at my site, but not a massive one like before. The Forward Observer has all the details, check it out. DeanCo--
  13. Man you guys are on the ball! You wanna know something funny? That is my only frequently asked question. I only have one. I would feel pretty funny putting up a FAQ section on my site for only one question though. You need at least 2, to have a decent looking FAQ, IMHO. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  14. I love it when someone says something is impossible... well, when I am able to do it later, that is! The cool thing about this is, I set it up so when you are laying the lines, they are solid white. When you click, the line dissapears, just leaving the pointers. If the path goes over an elevation this turns into dotted lines, like you see above the tank. Nothing to be done about this, it's in the game. The artillery commands have been left the same so you can see where you're aiming. What do y'all think? (yet another edit) I can set this up several ways actually. No paths at all, little dinky pointers, pointers just in the direction of travel, long pointer in the direction of travel and short pointer at the end point, or a combination of the above. I haven't touched the targeting at all, or the C&C lines. I really think this could be cool but I lack the expertise to do it right. If some of the more... shall we say, rabid players could check in with the features they'd like to see, that would be cool. (hopefully the last edit) ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 02-26-2001).] [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 02-26-2001).] [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 02-26-2001).]

  16. Man..ya leave for a day or so and ya really miss a lot! Now this is one cool idea. Brilliant. I wish I woulda thought of it, and that's my highest compliment. I've just had time to check them out a bit but it seems as though the first effort is the good one. The lines are still there but are much more discreet. The superthin ones,I had a hard time seeing the targeting lines, and I said no. The dotted lines, same thing. Too disconcerting. Also they seem to have darkened up some, or changed color slightly? Or is it my imagination? At any rate I really like it as it is, great job. I'd be interested in hosting this mod on my site. This is exactly the sort of thing I'm into to improve the CM game experience. Drop me a line. A final idea : how about a "directional" line? In other words, just the first little bit of the line would be colored, the rest would be clear, until you got to the next 'color'. Would that, I wonder, give an indication of the direction of travel without drawing the whole line? In that case you could go back to having the line thick again, and then the player would see a series of 'pointers' at the waypoints on the battlefield. Do you see what I'm saying? Keep up the good work y'all. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  17. Space Thing, You're absolutely right. The readability was a tradeoff thing. By making it more unified I lost some of the readability, and I'm well aware of that. I have a nice Ariel however I think back here in the back room...cough cough...yep, here it is. Readable as all get out. I could run you off a copy I guess, or put it up on the site if there's a real demand for it. Elijah, I tried that. That woulda been so cool to have the letters just floating there. It didn't work though, or maybe I didn't do it right. The menu IS slightly transparent in the game and that's what made me think it could happen. But no, alas. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  18. Me and PawBroon have already started work on the Lawyer version. Instead of a check mark there is '$60' written to the right. And Target, , Next Target and Target Wide have become Lawsuit, Next Lawsuit, and Sue Everyone. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  19. OK Y'all... from the bottom of my heart, thanks. I certainly wasn't expecting this, Y'all are really too kind. I wasn't that convincd myself... Can I just say that the tank and terrain modders that have checked in here are the REAL mod artists. These folks...well, it just boggles the mind. How they are able to look at those flat bmp's and envision what their work is gonna look like in the game is just beyond me. Me, I'm just a guy who one day thought that the C&C indicator was too dim, and happened to have a copy of Photoshop. Having said that, I'm gonna finish with my 'raison d'etre' here. Combat Mission is a great game, a classic, an earthshaker. And as such, it deserves the best of everything. The best graphics, the best tank models, the best interface, the best terrain... from the intro movie to the final screen, CM deserves the best of everything, because it's a great game. That's my profound belief. So if I can do my part here to help give it the best of everything, then everything is cool. If anyone is interested I have expanded on my original Designer's Notes on the CLIPBOARD page. It's a little bit like "Clipboard - The Making Of" as I try to explain about the design issues I faced making this mod. It's there if you want to read it. Finally...I have more surprises in store! Stay tuned! ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  20. I just wanted to thank everyone for the cool feedback regarding my mod. Yeah, you guessed it, I like this game a lot. And I don't want it to look like the Combat Results Table from Avalon Hill's D-Day. I want it to look cool, cause I like it so much. Second: There is a French version of this mod in the works already, and I am wondering if any other languages would benefit from this? So if anyone wants to translate it into another language, I will be glad to mail you the "source files" and complete instructions on how to do it. Cheers. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  21. Target...hmmm, I would say, 'viser'. Of course, there you would have a problem with Target Wide... Viser large?? I am LMFAO as I write this! But is this a trick question?? Move is the hard one for me... Aller? Aller vers...??? I will mail you too, Pascal. (edit) Cibler! Of course! That's gotta be it. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 02-22-2001).]
  22. M Hofbauer, with all due respect sir, I'm not gonna turn off the movie. My site is about eye candy and the movie contributes to that effect, as do the blinking lights, etc. I want people who come to my site to have a more 'colorful' experience than they do with other sites, and if that means longer load times and incompatibilities, so be it. I'm surprised you can't just say no to the plugin and click on the link anyway. If there really is a technical problem why you can't DL the mod, of course I will fix it. (edit) Actually, I am thinking about making it so you don't have to load the movie, but I am working up to it. I am really having a gas putting all this stuff in for the moment. Once the newness wears off I probably will fix it, M Hofbauer. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time [This message has been edited by deanco (edited 02-22-2001).]
  23. Woo ho! Never thought of that! What a cool idea! For our German friends! I would like to see it even though I don't understand a word of German. I would just like to see what that looks like. I will email you about this. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  24. Mr Clark, it's posts like this that make it all worthwhile. The raw desire to get that mod at any cost... how well I know this feeling when I see a mod I want. I have a crappy ISP though (comes with the cable, 5 mega, yes you read right, 5 WHOLE MEGA they give you), and I'm sure that at this moment they are regretting the fact that my poor 5 mega is soliciting so much attention right now. YOU WILL HAVE IT, MR CLARK. ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
  25. Peter, Peter...That's like saying, "Do you know this town in Texas called Gurston" when really you're talking about Dallas. I still haven't figured out where you're talking about. It's not even close to any town name I've heard of! faux pas, faux pas... C'mon, you real French people, slice him to ribbons! ------------------ DeanCo-- CM interface mods: http://mapage.cybercable.fr/deanco/ so many games...so little time
