  1. Personally, I was wondering if CM2 was going to model lightining strikes on armored vehicles. It's rather scarey to be riding around in a large hunk of metal during a thunderstorm. And ofcourse, it was during those thunderstorms when the tanker crews had to run out into the open to avoid hiding under a tree where lightining might strike. Keen Soviet gunners catching onto this habit, began to rattle sheets of tin while spraying water into fans in order to flush the German Tigers out. The trick was know as the Boltinski Uparski. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss [This message has been edited by Bruno Weiss (edited 09-27-2000).]
  2. Maybe the guy's a Republican, business is business. Don Rickles from the movie Kelly's Heros, suggesting that they make a deal with the German Tiger Tank commander. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
  3. Well my understanding is that they are working on it. The CC series being what they were, real time-real mouse environment, meant one sort of had to play online if you wanted a live opponent, and they lead ever one in that direction. Didn't hurt Microsoft's investment in the Zone either. But now that turn based seriousness is back (how's that for a planted word), online play, for me anyway, is an unnecessity. Now it's just me, not everyone feels the same ofcourse. But I find meself desiring to study the field as it were, for a while prior to launching my most brilliant plans, and then seeing them smashed to bits before me very eyes, rather than engage an opponent live in something of a 3D shooter brawl gone organizational. The wonder of pondering over a map and planning a strategy, studying my little cyber army and my opponent is back. Besides, when I have a hankering to meet some assorted characters, I just drop into the forum. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss

  5. No, the quote numbers are real enough, though probably impossible to verify, and I never interpreted the quote that the German Officer literally meant the Americans always actually sent eleven tanks. He was speaking euphamistically. Actually, the citation didn't identify what German Officer had said it. Just that the quote was famous, and from that I interpreted it to mean more like infamous than famous. Particularly to the Americans who were flush with victory. I cannot lay my hands at the moment on the book wherein I read this. It was tossed out there in the middle of a thesis as to the best tank of WWII, and went into the varibles involved. Like discussion about the Panthers mechanical reliability detracting from it's combat performance, the Tiger being something of a failure due to it's weight factor, high visibility profle and insatiable use of fuel with somewhat the opposite rating for the Soviet T-34. Where it's reliability equated into improved combat performance since it could operate in any kind of weather with very little mechanical breakdowns and was also produced in vast quantities. From there the discussion went into the relative merits of the Sherman's. And while viewed as a somewhat weaker tank overall, most notably the initial series weaker armor plate the thrust of the argument was that America's ability to mass produce them in quantities unimaginable to the Axis improved their overall combat capabilities by virtue of shear strength of numbers. That is where the quote came in, and was referred to as "A famous post war quote from a German Officer was that "Each German tank was worth ten American tanks, but the problem was they always sent eleven". It's interesting on account of a couple of other guys also remember reading this, but no one can remember where? I was joking when I wrote it, but now it is going to bug me forever or until I find it, or until someone wins the CM points. And as some keen observers noted, it never was a confirmed answer. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss [This message has been edited by Bruno Weiss (edited 09-26-2000).]
  6. Excellent Bullethead, and well thought out. I'll leave it to those munitions experts in the crowd to figure out the finite details. But from my reading of the thread, then I gather the hold back is that BTS is in want of documentation on the subject? Surely there must be a method of acquiring munitions data and historical deployment documentation. I'm presuming an exhaustive investigation has already taken place? Like at the US Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Red River, Letterkenny, Anniston, Blue Grass, Corpus Christi, and Tobyhanna Army Depots, to name a few. I mean besides the National Archives and Library of Congress. Or, I guess it might be the issue of time, personnel, and resources involved? Hmmm, well I seen Vic Morrow use starshells. Ya know, I really miss him. Why do I feel old. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
  7. Thanks Matt, rangefer's outdone himself. Very nice job on the new grey uniforms. Going to have them issued right away. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss

  9. Well, my understanding (I wasn't there ofcourse), was that in those days, the Normandy landings did provoke a rather unseemly dispute. Seems the Germans weren't quite agreeable to the invasion. Not sure things are any more violent now a days then anytime in the past. It's just we now have the ability to portray it without it actually having to happen. I think major league football began in the 30's. Boxing and wrestling in the mid to late 1800's, and I'm not certain when the Roman Colliseum was built? ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss [This message has been edited by Bruno Weiss (edited 09-25-2000).] [This message has been edited by Bruno Weiss (edited 09-25-2000).]
  10. A moment of silence please for all the Hampsters who perished in the habitrails... What we need here obviously, is atonement. I believe some self inflicted punishment is in order. For all those who have laughed at something on this forum, please swallow your tooth paste tonight. And if you know of anyone who has laughed on one of the WWI forums, tell them that us WWII forum guys ain't gonna stand for it no more. This is serious business. We should all be making accusations instead of having fun. What's a matter with everyone anyhow? ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss [This message has been edited by Bruno Weiss (edited 09-25-2000).]
  11. Yep, this game is no slouch. BTS deserves all the credit they get for this and more. It's a genere, gener, gen...a darn good game. Worth ever cent I paid and more. BTS has my loyality. Turn play is back, and Momma I'm home. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
  12. Hey hey, this is an excellant idea. The AI could tie it into improved spotting percentages at night. Particularly for artillery spotting. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
  13. I dunno Colonel. These kids now-a-days, whatayagonnado. Next thing you know, they'll be listening to the Hampsta rappers. 14. Well said Commissar. Every thing is a tradeoff. It costs time and money for BTS to produce the game. Now, where do they invest, and to what extint is the question. To pee or not to... So in the end it is a question of priorities. BTS has come up with something here. True, if they can make it happen at no cost to gameplay, and production time. Great! But I doubt that is the case. I too would take gameplay and interface over graphics. Besides, given the state of things with regard to the 3D graphics hardware companies who should honorably resolve their differences with a friendly game of CM (3DFX in their tank, and NVIDIA in theirs, they shake hands, pace off and turn to fire). Winner takes all! At the moment though, that sort of confusion is, I would guess, causing companies like BTS a major headache with regard to planning and implementing graphics code interoperability. Like I say, if I can have the eye candy without a negative effect on production and gameplay, then gimme. Otherwise... ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss

  21. Ordinarily or at least in the past that might have been a tempting idea, and one that has been done sometimes. But now-a-days with Hasbeen and the likes attempting to turn us all into video freaks I'm not sure but what I'd rather sit and wait on the tried and true methods like BTS is using. 23. Right Intel, that was what I was trying to say earlier, or in another thread. Forget. Anyway, the Ostfront conflict took place over thousands of miles of varying terrain, years worth of equipment and tactics evolution, and saw an ever changing tide of battle. From Barbarossa to Berlin, just about every conceivable type of terrain was fought over, most of the equipment inventories of both the Soviet and German armies saw action, and the basic doctrines of offense and defense for both armies changed quite a bit as well as each side exchanging places with regard to the basic nature of their primary purpose. Invasion versus defense. So, IMHO the various aspects of the conflict are pretty much unlimited and dependent only upon the time and the location of a particular scenario or operation. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
  24. Hey Intel, splain? Not sure I understand exactly what you mean, and I sort of share Daveman's sentiments. My store bought copy of CM was v1.03, then I downloaded v1.05, and overwrote the v1.03 exec file. But have the same problem he has cited. ------------------ "Wer zuerst schiesst hat mehr von Leben" Moto-(3./JG11 "Graf") Bruno "Stachel" Weiss
