1. Telgerot, here's my 2 bits. (Notice that this discussion is going very well: Friendly, insightful, etc. ) I think, to some extent, there is a difference between a "question" and a "discussion". For example: "Which varient of the M4 Sherman is better" is more likely to invoke a discussion, whereas "What is the effective kill range of the 75mm as carried by the M4 Sherman" is more of a question. Folks here are real leery about reopening old discussions , especially ones that have spiraled downward in a flaming mass of burning wreckage, whereas it is generally agreed that honest questions warrent honest replies. That being said, one is still well advised to search at least once if only to save yourself some time waiting for a response. For example, the other day I was wondering if roadblocks could be destroyed. Instead of opening a thread, I thought I'd look first to see if someone before me had asked the question- and sure enough, I had my answer in about 3 minutes (which was "no" btw). Simple question; simple answer; already been asked: QED. Good Hunting!

But didn't every kid do that?

Still do. Only thanks to CMBO the emphasis has changed. I usually build WWII aircraft, but now I've started armor, half-tracks, even a towed 88. Only trouble I'm having with this change is that they look kinda funny hanging from the ceiling...

 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Let's get something VERY straight here... What we object to is totally uninformed (i.e. never have programmed a game like this themselves) claiming that we are full of crap.

I've read the whole thread, and just have to toss in my $.02- The man's got a point: If you are not qualified to speak to a given topic- what the heck are you talking about? Personally, I would rather see Steve and crew polish off the very few remaining issues with CM and move on to CM2. A large number of the eye candy requests and issues can be dealt with by Mods, and if you're here for how the game looks instead of how the game plays- well you're probably in the wrong place. The graphics serve to represent the gameplay- not the other way around. From that point of view- the graphics are more than adequate. Thanks for letting me spend my $.02- And thanks BTS for an extraordinary game. If other developers don't catch-on to what you've done here, well, it's their loss. Down With Mediocrity! 5. I think this is an important issue, and would like to see it addressed in some fashion: the "AAR gloat factor" is very important to me. Given BTS' hitherto great service, I believe it will be dealt with- but some official word would be nice. BTS?
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by GhostOne: My intent is not to offend anyone and it's unfortunate that you took it that way. My saying that there is a lot of "crap" and "irrelevant" posts on this board is true from what I read but certainly doesn't mean or imply that all the posts are, or that all the people posting have nothing of value to offer. Again, bottom line is that I'd like to see a CM2/eastern front board now which is separate from this one. That's it. Ghost

GhostOne, I apparently misunderstood the tone of primary post, and acknowledge that you do in fact have some good points. I hope you will accept my apology. I guess I got defensive because I am fairly new to this board, as are many people, and have read several posts bemoaning the change in this board since "the good 'ol days"- ie., it was better before all the new people showed up- and that they will be leaving: and I feel a little put-off by this. The facts is that everyone was new here at one point in time; and CM is going to be an extremely popular game. There is going to be a lot of new blood here. I would rather the "old timers"- such as yourself- stick around and help us newbies to better understand CM and the wargaming world than run-off to some dark corner of the digital world, thereby excluding the fresh ideas and experiences which the widespead popularity of CM is sure to elicit. That being said, I'm sure that the attentive contributions of people such as yourself to CM2 will only serve to make it a better game, and if having a seperate area to discuss the Eastern Front and its unique issues will help to foster those contributions, then I, albeit reluctantly, support your endeavor. I simply hope that such an area will be more inclusive than exclusive in its moderation. Sincerely, Von Fauster
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by GhostOne: My query is to BTS and I'm not interested in debating this. As I said, it's a genuine request for something CM2 only based without irrelevant topics. If you want to "have fun" then you'd still have this or another board for said "entertainment". Ghost

Here's my $.02: If this was to BTS and not for debate, you probably shouldn't have posted it on a public forum, huh. What's sad is I'm fairly new here, but I've enjoyed finding a game and community which I can be a part of and share my thoughts and experiences with. Sort of what a public forum is all about, isn't it? And as I grow more comfortable in this medium and more familiar with the BTS's product and this board, I find I'd like to be a part its future and perhaps part of the discussion involving its evolution. But when you call the discussions on this board "crap", and irrelevant, you insult a larger number of people than you might think. It just makes me want to close down and not be a part of it. Sure, there are going to be topics which do not interest you: Don't read them. Sure, there will be people that offend you: Don't read them, and don't egg them on. They'll go away. But if you insult the non-hardcore-grogs... well it's rude and its bad business. Thanks for the vent.
 8. I'm here to stay. Where else can I go to talk about CM? Everytime I try to tell my wife about how this lone Pershing held the left flank, she get's this glazed look in her eyes. Besides, if I didn't hang-out here, I'd have to work. Now if only BTS could remove the Battlefront.com banner from the top of the screen, I'd be a lot less paranoid about my boss walking by. It's hell on the nerves.
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Sailor Malan: I think you have already found what they are used for!! Keep them out of harms way, and deliver great big shells onto nice soft targets!

I like the sound of that.
 10.
quote:
Originally posted by IntelWeenie: I would suggest that when units are purchsed as a Co/Bn formation that the entire cost is taken from the infantry category allotment.

What he said. I like that idea myself.
 11. So I'm playing a scenario when I get reinforced by three M7B1 HMC Priests. First I think "Cool", then I realize I have no idea what these are. Self-propelled arty- right? What are they used for? If they are artillery, how come I can't do indirect fire (Target Area)- or can I and I just missed it somehow? One cool thing though- two of them shooting at a tall building can knock it down in 1 turn. "Spotter? Spot this!" So anyway- what is the M7B1 used for, both in CM and in WWII? Thanks ahead-of-time for your enlightened, intelligent answers.

 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Elijah Meeks: I'm there, just let me know the religion.

I thought CM was a religion. The Church of the Beyond Overlord. I go to worship as often as possible.
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Dittohead: I believe Steve and Charles are most interested in selling copies and making loads of cash, so obviously CM-2 will the SS vs Diablo, The battle for Hell begins.

Hmmm. That actually sounds interesting. Must be reading this board too much.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Fred: As this is a vote,I say leave it the way it is. I like some feedback from the game engine. For those that don't like it, switch the option to OFF. It is already implemented, so no need to change the code. For PBEM, just agree before what options to use and what not. Fred

What he said.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by CavScout: Depends... what year? Not going to be fun taking IIIs and IVs against those mean 34s... Cav

I think CavScout has a good point, but on the east front I go kraut.
 17. Looks great! Thankyouthankyouthankyou. Also, for the other novices out there (meaning me and others like me), I found a quick way to make CM look even better: check you color settings- paticularly the gamma settings. Mine was hanging around at 1.0 and I bumped it up to 1.31. Made a big difference. Thanks again Madmatt.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: What kind of a marketing coordinator are you if you can't sell that idea, eh?

Gotta pick and choose your battles my friend. Gotta pick and choose... Yesterday was Thursday and I chose my wife. Today is Friday and I choose beer. Gotta pick and choose...
 19. Well guys and gals, It's beer o'clock for this grunt. Time to hunker in. For the State-side- have a good, long weekend. For the less fortunate...I'll have one for ya. (My apologies to Germanboy. I told my wife last night that you gave me permission...but she just smiled and reached for that new rolling-pin I bought her for our anniversary. Silly me.)
 20. I seem to recall reading in the manual that the AI is not setup to handle assault boats. That would severely limit the QB options.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Drifter: I´d like to know how other´s handle this situation?

Easy. Don't get killed in the middle of the road! Just kidding. Depending on whether your tank is just immobilized or worse, you should be able to at least suggest to it to TARGET an incoming threat. The AI may not listen to you, but you can try. The TacAI, IMHO, is much better than CC3, so you can trust it a little more to do the right thing. I played alot of the CC series too, and it took me a while to let go the super-micro-management-twitch thing that CC seems to inspire (though I still enjoy them in their own right...sometimes I feel twitchy) and let Combat Mission do its thing. Once you get the hang of it, it's alot less stressful, and a lot more interesting. One thing you might consider is using your wounded tank as bait. Flank that oncoming armor, which you know will be pre-occupied by your busted tank, with a bazooka. Big Boom Good. And welcome to the board!
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Hawkeye: Kind of curious about the scale that other players give their soldiers. I personally prefer realistic because... well... it's realistic. Of course, that means I have to use those ugly bases, but still, their dimensions sure are realistic! Hawkeye

I jump around. When I'm plotting my turn, I usually either turn the bases on or up the size a notch or two, and turn the trees off. I also like to show paths (Alt P). Then, when I'm ready to "GO", I return the troops to thier normal size, turn the trees back on, and get rid of the bases and paths and enjoy the show. Once you get the short-cuts down, it just takes a sec to do. Good Hunting!
 23.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Err, von fauster, where are your manners? Brandy is drunk warm, not cold. Meaning you can have one, now. Go ahead, you know you want it. Tell them I said it is okay...

My sincere apologies Germanboy. After A GREAT DEAL of trial and error (mostly error), I've learned to refrain from all but my blessed BarleyHopMalt Buddy. And now that I can tell my wife that I actually have Permission... well, I'll see ya all later!
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Malmvig: I think I will exchange my coffee with some brandy, just for being polite

Am I the only one waiting (granted, pulling my hair out too) for the weekend BEFORE cracking a cold one?
