  1. Question for KwazyDog (or anyone else in the know for that matter). When you say does that mean the CMBO-SE intalls exactly the same (with patches of course) as the original CMBO and that to get the "new hi-res" graphics the mods must be installed? Just looking for clarity. Thanks!
  2. A fellow scale modeler? If I could use my airbrush.... As regards tree bases, I guess what I'm looking for is if anyone felt the same way I did, and what mod did they use? Juju has done some great work, and naturally I've installed MadMatt's mods, and Juju's, but I'm just trying to find that perfect blend. [ June 10, 2003, 02:15 PM: Message edited by: Von Fauster ]
  3. Salute all! I'm a long time CMBO and CMBB player, and just bought the CMBO-SE, mostly for kicks but also to have all the new scenarios et al in one location. Couple of questions: 1)Tree bases have always been my one pet peevee, and in the past I've pulled them into Photoshop to get them the way I like them. In an effort to avoid this, could someone point me in the direction of some good, subdued tree bases? The defaults are too bright for my taste. 2)I really like the way CMBB looks. Are the grass, trees, and tree bases the same shape as in CMBO? Can I just swap textures out of CMBB? Regards, and good hunting!
  4. WrathChild, you are correct in regards to the BMP folder. It gets a little more difficult when you just want to change back some of the textures to a previous state, and not the whole folder (Ie., you like the grass, but not the tree bases for example). I keep a list of what I change, and "pull" bmps out of the main CMBO folder and into a temporary holding folder so I can go back and selectively replace individual bmps. It takes a while, but in the end you feel that this is YOUR Combat Mission- customized the way you like it.
  5. Mission accomplished. Hopefully they'll start posting them pretty soon.
  6. Bought CMBO and CMBB on-line. Quality of product and service is second to none. First class all the way.
  7. Holy cow! What is this... a year and a half pushing two??... and this game still rocks hard! Feeling a little onry so I dialed up a Quick Battle Medium size, split even on ability, attack, random time, random weather, per se but +1 on the AI and... my gosh... Sorry for the incoherent spew but JEEZ if I spent all night designing a map it wouldn't be as cool as the the terrain the game/A I came up with. If every game was this freaking good we wouldn't have any lives at all. Ahhh.... Combat Mission.... A prost! von Fauster
  8. Sir,yes Sir! I have selected a number of photos for my friend to review. Upon his approval, I will send them to you. He as given me tentative authorization, I just need his final nod. We're probably looking at Monday on that. Until then- von Fauster <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Madmatt: von Fauster, the highest resolution with the least amount of compression the better. 9. Thank you all very much. I will forward this information to my friend. He was very excited to learn where his uncle fought and what sort of equipment he hauled around. The pictures go from Belgium in 1940 up through the about December 1943 in Russia, and he seems to have dragged that gun everywhere. I'll try to find out today about getting more pictures, and what his feelings are about sharing them. There are a number of really interesting photos, but there are two that really stick with me: one appears to be a knocked out T-26. I'll see if I can post it here to make sure. It might be something else. The other is a shot of a gunner sitting exhausted behind an MG-34 or 42 (again not sure). He is absolutely buried in spent brass. At a glance you can tell he just spent the worst morning of his life. MadMatt: If I can send you the photos, what format would you prefer and hi-res or low-res. I'm using Photoshop to scan them and can create one zip file with the photos if you would like. If I can get my friends permission, it would be my pleasure to share with BTS and friends, especially after all the happy hours you and your co-workers have provided me via Combat Mission. Regards, von Fauster
  10. That helps a great deal. Thank you so much. Here's that gun. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by panzerwerfer42: I just looked around Feldgrau.com for I.R. 220. Grenadier regiment 220 was a part of the 58th Infanterie-Division. According to this page 58 infanterie was a part of AG North as you have said, in the 18th Army 54th Corps, which fought at Leningrad. The 13 part of 13./I.R. 220 stems from his being in the infantry gun company which was number 13. Hope this helps.<hr></blockquote>
  11. <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Andreas: Do you know which unit he was in?<hr></blockquote> Still working on getting the picture, but the records refer to a 13./I.R. 220. It's also referred to as 13 (J.G)/I.R. 220. There are some pictures of graves which refer to 13/220. He appears to have been a Obergefreiter. Also, there is a picture of a ceremony in what looks to be a cemetary, and on hand labeled caption (which is a little hard to read) refers to a General von Graffen. S!
  12. Thanks for continuing to look into this guys. I think Andreas' solution will be fastest, though I am meeting with my co-worker again today to go over the album, and if I can, I'll see if I can get any scans. Also, there is some paperwork in the album and I'll see if his unit is mentioned. Regards, von Fauster <blockquote>quote:</font><hr>Originally posted by Andreas: John, you've got mail. Instead of waiting for von Fauster to scan, I just emailed you a link for my grandfather's pictures, which he says show the same gun.<hr></blockquote>
  13. Wow. That was fast. Thanks Andreas! That was exactly it. 75mm. Thanks for sharing. Offwhite- grog porn? I like it! I'll check with me friend and see if he'll let me scan a few of the pictures. But it's his family's history...so if not, I'm sure you understand. I'll let you know if I can do anything. Thanks again guys. I love this game, and this community. von Fauster [ 01-09-2002: Message edited by: Von Fauster ]</p>
  14. How do. Being an old CM fan and not knowing where else to turn, I figured the fine folks here might be able to help me out. A co-worker of mine was recently given his uncle's photo album from WWII. His uncle was in the Heer and the album covers his training in '39 up to his death in '44. There is even a letter from his commander explaining the circumstances of his death (grenade, Eastern front. I think he was in Army Group North- but I'd have to check that). My co-worker and I are trying to figure out what sort of field piece his uncle was responsible for. It looks like he hauled the same gun all through France and right into Russia. It's sort of small, definately close up Infantry support, short barreled. Maybe a 75mm IG 37? Does anyone know where I can find some pictures on the web of Infantry support/light artillery field pieces to compare with this fellow's album? Your help would really be appreciated. 15. Thanks KwazyDog. preciate the info. I'm sure it's a labor of love for you guys, but still a lot of work too. Very much looking forward to the big day. Regards, von Fauster
  16. Question for Madmatt (or anyone else who knows the answer!): I'm extremely impressed with the scope of CMBB. I was wondering, maybe in terms of percentage, how much was research and how much was coding? Given the wild variety of forces types, especially late in the war, I would think it a herculean task to come up with accurate troop types and concentrations. Secondly, who was the poor bastard that had to read all the books and take notes! Thanks
  17. drool...drool...drool...drool... Boss: "So, when are you taking your vaction?" My immediate reply: "End of First Quarter, 2002 I think."
  18. I wasn't going to bite this one. But now I'm curious. My number is... [ 10-17-2001: Message edited by: Von Fauster ]
  19. I know what I want for Xmas. Maybe we could make this simple: BTS, I'll give you my credit card number, and you just ship me every Combat Mission game that becomes available. Sort of a permenant pre-order thing. I've enlisted for the duration. I'll need about three weeks notice though, so I can adequately prepare my wife for becoming a Combat Mission widow again.
  20. Keep with it! This game is worth the effort. I think Gremlin got it right in a nutshell. The only thing I would add is be aware of the flanks, both as an area of opportunity for you to catch the enemy flat-footed, and as an area of vulnerability for yourself. Unless I have an overwhelming force, I almost never attack an enemy head-on: usually that is the way his defenses are oriented. Grab 'em by the nose and kick 'em in the arse as Patton use to say. Good Hunting!
  21. Thanks for the clarification. Personally, I didn't think it was all that confusing. At any rate, I really enjoyed your article. Keep up the good work and thanks for shining the spotlight where it belongs (on BTS). I look forward to more of your work. (Maybe a CM2 update prior to release?) Thanks again. Sincerely, Von Fauster <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Robert Mayer: First off, the quote with the Voodoo references is from CGW, not my CGM article, just to clear things up. In the CGM article, I write: "The game will drop support for 4MB video cardds, making 8MB cards the minimum requirement. 32MB cards are suggested, though the game will function well with 16MB boards." I.e., the only things that won't run this game in 3D mode (I presume; I didn't ask about software mode, for some reason ) are old cards like the Voodoo1 and the early ATI Rage boards. Anyone with a remotely modern 3D card should be ok, though if you want to use high-res textures and lots of mods, the more VRAM you have the better, obviously. [ 06-05-2001: Message edited by: Robert Mayer ]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
  22. Thanks BTS! Your product support is the best in the business- bar none. Because of this, and the outstanding game, Combat Mission has earned the coveted distinction of being the longest program to remain on my hard drive, save the operating system. Great work. Put me down for one advanced order of CM2! Hell, CM3 and 4 for that matter. Von Fauster [This message has been edited by Von Fauster (edited 02-09-2001).]
