  1. *smiles* Okay, I'll throw my bit in it too... Still in the process of playing my first PBEM, so I guess I'd still count as a "Conscript". 1500 points or less, I'll play either side, and pretty basic terrain features as well. I can put in 1 turn a day minimum (unless an emergency comes up), and maybe quite a bit more if you're nice. rrobe@tscnet.com (don't send a setup right away though, please!)
  2. *smiles* Okay, so I've played enough against the AI, and I'm pretty sure that if I play against a person I'll be in for a very unpleasant surprise. This is why, being the masochist(sp?) that I am, I'm submitting myself to anybody out there who wants to test their mettle against a newbie CM player who will sign a cease fire the moment he witnesses -smoke- on the battlefield. Seriously, I'm game. Veteran, regular, newbie, anybody.... if/when I get my arss handed to me, I'll consider it an educational experience. My only requirement is that you are a bit of a conversationalist, and enjoy ridiculing/laughing/conversing with your opponent. What can I say, I like to run my mouth off in any game, and CM is no exception! I can pretty much do any number of turns in a day(or night), and if I can't play for a few days, I shall inform whoever my opponent(s) are ahead of time. Just send me an e-mail, and prepare for a slaughter.... (in your favor, rest assured!)
  3. My two cents... Generally speaking, I purchase units with a dynamic viewpoint, making sure that the experienced (veteran) or at the right places, while the regulars are in the safer regions of the map. Of course, in a QB or a blind scenario, you might not have the luxury to do this, sooo.... here's what I do in that case. I usually purchase regulars.... -but-... the lead units, ESPECIALLY in infantry, are always veterans. This goes for defense and offense, but mostly the latter because when it comes to simply -taking ground- a regular cannot do so, unless it is quite empty! A veteran unit will take the first few rounds from dug-in infantry located in a forest, and still move close enough to put their SMG's or grenades to work. As for tanks, this works slightly differently... the lead tank is the veteran, but he might be in the back of the map! The "lead" tank, in my strategies, is the one that can see the most vital areas of the map, the ones where the enemy will be most likely to pop up in. The reason why that tank is a veteran, is because (as many people pointed out in this thread) the spotting/aiming/accuracy is so much better... the few seconds you save with a veteran compared to a regular can be enough to get the first shot off, which will be more accurate because of the higher experience, which will be much more effecient in blasting the enemy into kibbles. Anyhow, that's my take on it! -If I had a signature, I do believe this is where it would be stamped.
  4. *tsk tsk* Cripes people... I swear, if you could inject CM through your arm via IV, you would.... (Not that I wouldn't either) *signals for his nurse* "Could I get a refill here?"
  5. ...on this whole "Do a search" thing. I'm curious as to how, when somebody asks a question that is asked before, how it has a negative effect on this forum. I've read a few threads (I did a search, heheh!), and I saw quite a bit of bad attitude in the questions themselves "ANSWER MY FREAKING QUESTION!" and the responses to said questions "DO A FREAKING SEARCH!" (slight exaggeration added to enhance effect of statement). Quite frankly, if the only things that could be discussed here are "new material" which haven't been talked about before, than according to my calculations, even CM will run out of material to talk about, eventually. Yes, we can always talk about war stories and mods and CM 2, but still... this is about CM, primarily, right? *shrugs* I'd understand if this forum was "spammed" with the same question over and over ("When does CM 2 come out? When's the next patch?")... but I haven't heard of any complaints from people who have gotten their never-before-asked-question buried under a torrent of searchable-questions. That's why they can be bumped up, right? *shrugs* I don't know. Yes, we can all do searches and find the answers to our problems, but I know that I, personally, am more comfortable asking a question and having some very awesome, mature people answering ME, as a PERSON. Eh, maybe I'm just concieted and want attention... or maybe I'm just giddy over the fact that for the first time, I'm interested in a game who doesn't have a horde of "kewld00dz" playing (see Starcraft), and I actually want to talk to these players, regardless of whatever the discussion has taken place before. -Tel (Junior Member, be friendly!) (No sarcasm, smart-ass, mean-spirited statements intended... except to kewld00dz)
  6. Quote: ------------------------------------------- Some Soldiers are psychic. ------------------------------------------- Hmmm, well... if that's the case, I guess CM is heading toward the totally realistic realm of "Red Alert 2"! I'm sure that will make the historian fanatics on this board really happy! Come on guys, psychic controlled squids? Bomb-laden cows? That sounds like real life to -me-.* *Can I get a -serious- answer to my question now?
  7. I'm a tad curious as to how in CM (and in reality, if it was the case) units can be identified by an opposing force as "Veteran" or "Green", on the battlefield. I mean, as far as experience goes, it makes sense to label a Sherman tank who has racked up 3 tank kills in a battle as at -least- regular, because it would be a lucky Greeny indeed to accomplish such a feat! But when I spot a squad running from some thick wood into a building, and I have 10 seconds to identify him from 120 meters away, how do I come up with something as detailed as "12 man -VETERAN- SMG squad"? I'm not complaining, I was just wondering how, realistically speaking, that could be done.
  8. I'm a bit curious as to what exactly firepower and visibility calculate into, especially when it comes to actually inflicting casualties on other infantry. Specifically, I want to know the minimum range (and thus firepower/visibility) for a German SMG squad to be nearly -guaranteed- a kill. The reason why is because I'm still wondering if it's really worth shooting 400 meters at 50% visible infantry with rifles and use up all that precious ammo.... *shrugs* Just curious. (I'm a newbie, you can tell, right?)
