  1. I would recommend pulling up a blank 3x1.4 map and just putting on the bare terrain features (highway, river, edge of town, hotel). Fly around and get a feel for the scale then cut it down into something more manageable once you decide on the 'frame' for the scenario.
  2. Well, that's why MG teams have between 2 and 6 men in the game. Actually, movement rates for MG teams have been a topic of hot discussion since CMBO when they were unable to run. Depending on the weapon and the ammo load, MG team members are generally not carrying anymore than the average rifleman.
  3. Just finished this as the Allies in a PBEM. I had no idea it was this unbalanced. I scored a total victory in about 12min. This thing should come with a warning label. Now that I mention it, I'll go over to the depot and give it one.
  4. Close inspection will show that it is not the rhyme scheme that is off, but the formatting. Line 3 actually has what would be lines 3 and 4 in a normal limeric and accomodates the 'b,b' portion of the ryhming. I propose that this is in fact a proper limeric.
  5. I also highly recommend a stop at the tips and tricks forum. There have been some really good tactical discussions there lately and a search will reveal even more (more than you could read in a month at this point).
  6. They can be very effective at suppressing heavy weapons. I just took out a 75mm AT gun with one at 400m.
  7. It is far more than is needed to get a proper answer around here though. /* edited for spelling and general clarity */
  8. I would actually suggest that this sort of damage management is marginally gamey. It takes undue advantage of the 'all or nothing' model of building damage which is a poor representation of reality. I agree that it can be useful (particularly v. the AI which abandons or crews buildings much more predictably than humans), but I would consider it bad form if done obviously and repeatedly.
  9. Exactly right. The road has some mines scattered on it, not one every three inches for 20m. It is possible (50%) for any individual vehicle to pass w/o triggering one. Double covering the road will bring the chance of failure down to 25%.
  10. Well, saying you can't flank them makes it almost impossible to answer. In reality, you either have to bring up something with enough front armor to pound it out or (as you mentioned) smoke them. The other, generally better, answer is to flank them, making it uncomfortable to stay in the keyhole position. In reality, if you could do neither, you would probably pull back and wait for more firepower or attack somewhere else and flank the whole position. Most commanders would not send the whole armored company to its doom. Of course, at the tactical CM level, that may just mean you're out of luck. At the same time, what about infantry? Can you work squads up on the flanks into positions the armor can't reach?
  11. I kept one for a while, but it was a hassle and I never looked at it so I gave up. There are some long PBEM series that no one can remember the score on anymore. I'd like to know for those purposes, but not much else. I'm not sure I even have all of the appropriate versions of CM to even open most of the files anymore (BO 1.05, BB 1.01).
  12. I've used them (trenches) extremely successfully to beef up inexperienced units. On the defence, if you don't need to move them, green units in a trench have the staying power of regulars or veterans in foxholes in many situations. It is far cheaper to spend 10pts on the trenches than to buy up experience.
  13. Wait till you try CMAK, and I dont' mean the desert. AK portrays the European theatre in a whole new light, and almost all of the CMBO battles are transportable.
  14. Canister is the same round by the same name used since the 18th century or earlier. It consists of a variety of small objects packed into a canister designed to spread out upon firing and cause massive damage to soft (i.e. human) targets at relatively short range. It is similar to what would be called grapeshot in the british navy (iron balls the size of grapes packed into the shell), and is the tank equivalent of a shotgun shell.
  15. Outside ranges, best results at half of number listed. Shreck: 100m PIAT/Zook: 75m ATR: 400m, unless chance to kill is none Squad Bonus Weapons: Doesn't matter. They'll fire or no of their own accord.
  16. It really was intended for threads about to be closed for jackassery, but since this is your first, I'll let it slide.
  17. Thank you. I hadn't thought of importing early and changing the date. Good advice, well put.
  18. Bottom line: There is a wealth of evidence that AT weapons were used in a variety of non-AT roles by all forces. I would support shooting at just about anything with them including but not limited to tanks, buildings, bunkers, bridges, infantry, guns, trees, cows, (sorry I got a little carried away). There is very little evidence that they were used for scouting by themselves. They are also, in game terms, too expensive to make that a very fruitful use of these weapons. Blast away, but leave them behind the scouts.
  19. While I'm at it, could someone scrape together some evidence that there were airborne in Italy after D-Day? That would be my biggest wish for the patch, so that we can continue to CMBOify CMAK.
  20. One nit on the fence. Generally, the fences in the USSR would be constructed almost entirely of wood (as is shown in the picture) with a frame of larger pieces supporting the slats. Using wire to hold the slats together (as I think your mod shows) would be rare. Wire costs money where wood tends not to and is less common in the generally rural and poor USSR of the 1940s. At the same time, wood is fairly scarce some parts of the South, so the tradeoff may go the other way in some parts of the country.
  21. I generally think they're too much of a gamble due to the large spread, but they can make an effective suppression weapon. If just one or two catch a platoon on the move in open ground or get a good treeburst, they'll pay off.
  22. Wow, far be it from me to argue with Moon, but I feel I have to. I agree with everything but the answer on bazookas. I've been playing this game a long time, and I've never seen a bazooka fire in a direction is wasn't facing. Bazookas are not considered 'secondary weapons' with a squad, they are primary crew served weapons like MGs and AT guns and tend to behave as such with respect to firing and facing. Your bazooka must rotate to face the target in order to fire. Panzerfausts will fire at any facting as they are senondary carried squad weapons.
  23. I would prefer a number of more local actions, with context in the briefing to put the engagement into the overall battle. Am I asking for a Casino pack? Yes.
  24. One grandfather and three great uncles. All US infantry in what would be CMBO around here. They were, for further information, all from Kentucky and were, for having enough to eat purposes, hunters for years before the war and saw significant action as what the game would probably call Veteran to Crack Sharpshooters.
