  1. I agree with that, after engagement. The sl should be as fluid in his position as poss, to assist the max amount of units in his command radius, whilst obscuring his position from enemy troops. but whilst moving to engage, approaching in formation can (i think) contribute a lot to your cause. by retaining your sense of purpose in the approach, you end up with forces evenly and well distributed to solve the task at hand. 2. i would have thought that the downside of a vee, is the possibility of two units being jumped without warning. assuming the co was at the base of the vee, support elements at the next stage, and riflemen forming the forward points. i prefer to use a wedge. one unit of riflemen (unsplit) as point, two as backup and a trailing mortar and/or mg unit at 40m or so (if avail), as indirect fire support. the co trails the wedge, around 20m between the riflemen and the support crew, ready to move forward as spotter for mortars or catch routing/panicked units. this allows me to bring two units to bear in the support of one, rather than one in the support of two in the case of a vee.
  3. Thanks for the replies. the terrain i was looking to recreate was the defence of the continental hotel at Cassino by the 2D NZ. i thought the pouring rain, poor visibility and generally destroyed condition of the town around them would make for a good (if somewhat visceral) game. Added to that, their lack of AT creates a nice counter to the weather being in favour of the defender. i think after your comments regarding size, that it would better to scale down by a large degree, and maybe concentrate on the area around the hotel. would anyone be able to point me in the direction of good aerial/other/any photo archives covering italy in this 44/45 period ? (if such a thing exists that is)
  4. i searched the forums with `create map` but couldnt find anything so . . . can anyone give me any pointers as to how to go about converting a 1:1500yds map in a paperback to a CMAK map ? the area i have is 1.4k * 3k (town), but i think that it is way too big for one battle. any advice on how to scale down effectively would be appreciated too.
  5. no edit ? bearing in mind how hot the desert is, that is.
  6. was the glycol used to keep the temp of the water down ? i just wondered if keeping ammunition behind jackets of semi-boiling fluid would be very safe ?
  7. Does anyone here know how the wet storage system works physically ? after reading this thread, i kinda got to wondering, and couldnt think of anything that would stop bullets exploding.
  8. my tactic for using scoot`n`shoot was : use the LOS tool, placing it on the enemy, and scanning the area around it, to determine what terrain is blocking my LOS to the target. (assuming the LOS is a bore sighted tool) this should indicate to you the effects of the terrain (blockages) on your bore sight. i then just place the scoot section of the command where i guesstimated the divider between the red/black sections of the LOS info. (i guess you could switch to target mode to measure the distance, then match that distance with the scoot section, but rough is probably good enough) set the second waypoint back into your covered position (you are in cover arent you?), and bobs your uncle, a sneaky peek. i noticed this tactic wasnt so hot vs armour on the move, but when you get a chance of a side shot in a slug out, or a nice flank vs a reserve, it seems to work quite well.
