  1. I guess the reason it disappeared was that the paint normally is covered with mud and dust anyway... But AFAIK almost all new paintschemes for AFVs are multicolour. Here's the latest camo (called MCS) from Barracuda: I've also seen other design projects in very "ambush pattern"-like painting. Cheers Olle
  2. Err, no? Did a quick check: - On map sIG 33 (150L11), towed and SP versions: Blast 248 - On map Brummbär (150L12): Blast 248 - Regimental 15cm arty spotter (2x sIG 33): Blast 299 - Divisional 15cm arty spotter (4x sFH 18 (150L30)): Blast 299 - On map SP sFH 18 (Hummel): Blast 303 It's beyond me why there's such a different in blast rating depending on if the howitzer is on or off map. sIG 33 gain 20% by being off map, while sFH 18 gain 3% by being on map! Cheers Olle
  3. It's also a matter of national organisation and procedures. US spotters request fire from a (any) battery, possibly defined by type, and then usually receive something. An anecdote comes to mind: A US FO in France requested some 81mm mortar fire on a village. He didn't get it. Instead he got a coordinated ToT mission from six howitzer (105mm & 155mm) battalions... British spotters were, as previously mentioned, the artillery troop and battery commanders, and could as such directly order their unit to fire. Only larger missions needed extra authority. I don't know the organisation of other nations. Still I don't think it was that common that several FOs at the same time would request fire from one specific battery. _______________________________ Not actually divide the ammo, but get more spotters and decrease the ammo for each. I did that for a CMBO scenario of mine. Cheers Olle
  4. Has anyone found a review in Swedish (published in a magazine, paper or on a regular gaming site)? I'd guess not, since CDV, AFAIK, haven't given out any promotional games to reviewers (an absolute must to get any reviews here in Sweden)... I've now at least written a very short, 1500 characters, review for my local newspaper. Cheers Olle
  5. The berets are hard coded, so there's no texture file. Cheers Olle
  6. The StuG III error that irritates me the most is the lack of the 44 rounds of main gun ammo typically piled on the floor when going to combat (according to some large guy at Aberdeen PG lecturing in the series "Tanks" on Discovery Channel). This increase the ammo load from 46 to 90 rounds. Cheers Olle
  7. You mean tanks actually don't explode when your rifle team shoot at them? They definately explode when my team attack with Panzerfaust/Rifle grenade/Satchel charge/Gammon bomb/Molotov coctail/hand grenade/... and manage to score a hit and penetrate the armour and have luck! Cheers Olle
  8. I've even placed mortars (in CMBO) immediately behind a large building and fired over the roof without problems... Cheers Olle
  9. I thought this thread was about ammo volumes... I think the StuG III is depicted with only half of the typical combat load of ammo; - 46 rounds stored in racks, as listed. - Another 44 rounds piled up on the floor, not listed. Even with the extra ammo they often ran out during infantry assaults. Cheers Olle
  10. Full strength should be 14. (2 in HQ and 3 batteries with 4 TDs each.) Cheers Olle
  11. In mid '41 the Soviet army had more T-34 than KV-1/2 because of the simple design (fast production). Most of these were in Asia. T-26, T-28, various BT versions and T-60/70 were more common on the western front. Cheers Olle
  12. Phone modem (V.90) Pay-per-minute (about $.65/hour, cheap rate). Cheers Olle [ December 16, 2002, 06:42 PM: Message edited by: Olle Petersson ]
  13. As I've understood it suppression depends mostly on FirePower (FP), which in turn is based mostly on ROF. Cheers Olle
  14. The PzKw 38(t) was considered slightly out of date allready in mid '41, but against T-26 they'll do fine if you get a bit closer... Historically you didn't do anything wrong to pick it. 7th, 8th, 12th, 19th and 20th PzDiv used them instead of PzKw III E/F/G ('41) or H/J ('42) well into 1942. Cheers Olle
  15. AFAIK (WW2) artillery can have two types of status; - General support. Responds to any fire request within range (equals relatively long delay because the request is relaied). - Direct support. Responds primarily to requests from a specified unit with which it stays in contact. Battalion mortars are always in direct support of their battalion. Regimental artillery is likely to be in direct support of it's regiment. Divisional and higher artillery is more common in general support, but can be assigned direct support missions. Since all artillery in CM is represented by an on map spotter, it can be argued to be in direct support of the on map force. Then the delays of up to 30 minutes seem ridiculus... Cheers Olle
  16. Lt Bull, I support your suggestions! - I don't think preparations would take long, but be a simple order. - The only addition by me would be the abstracted use of smoke handgrenades to (partially) cover the retreat. Another issue that can be debated is whether it's "right" to shoot at fleeing troops (as is favoured by the tac-AI now). I don't mean "right" from an ethical view, but from a tactical/strategic POV; spend ammo on beaten enemies, or save it for the fresh ones popping up next minute? Perhaps the tac-AI could reduce ROF (and firepower?) when attacking fleeing troops, unless the player specifically targeted the fleers. If so, then withdrawing would be less suicidal even without special preparations. Cheers Olle
  17. What should be an enigma is the motorcycle battalion, since no two seem to have been the same but unique for each brigade... Cheers Olle
  18. The 82mm rockets are cheaper, pointwise, perhaps that's the answer? The 132mm rockets have a lower rarity rating though... Cheers Olle
  19. I seem to recall that realistic effective range, hand thrown against AFVs, were less than 20m. 10m was about optimum engagement range. In CMBB my AT-teams seem to prefer hurling their Molotovs at 40m (or more), missing the intended target. Cheers Olle
  20. A bump for this interesting thread as well. Given that some e-mail accounts don't accept individual messages that are larger than 1MB, attachments included, make large PBEM files a real nightmare. Cheers Olle
  21. A bump of this interesting thread while waiting for Steve's comment. Cheers Olle
  22. Where can I get that three-tone Sturmtiger mod? I'm a bit disappointed by the original plain yellow... TIA Olle
