It get's the Rune's thumbs up. Will let the designer state what/when he is going to post it. Rune

Curses! Foiled again! Tell him to hurry up the posting; it's one of my favorite ASL scenarios.... ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 2. BTS, PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD! I have nothing against any of the participants, but everything past the first half-dozen posts seems to have less to do with CM and more to do with inter-personal animosities. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: So if you design scenarios and want to achieve historic accuracy, sprinkle these two in with care, no matter how cool (or hot, pardon the pun) they are.

Hurridley working on adapting the ASL scenario "Cold Crocodiles" to CM. I plan to include both Crocs in the Brit OB, care be damned! BTW, does anyone know what sort of copyright issues might be involved in doing this? (especially since it's an "adaptation" not a "re-creation") ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Nick Carter: The most recent "Tales of the Gun" show on History Channel mentioned that BAR rifles were almost exclusively armed with AP bullets. The footage of the BAR chewing apart concrete building walls was pretty amazing.

Can't quote any resources off the cuff, but that just plain SOUNDS inaccurate. The BAR was originally designed in WWI as a squad automatic (aka light MG) to kill infantry using ball ammo. I won't say that AP was never used in BARs (since it obviously could be), but I seriously doubt it was standard procedure, since that's not what they were made to do. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb

 6. Am I missing something or has no one done a winter texture for the StuGs?? They look kinda funny when all the other krauts are dressed in white.... ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 7. When is the DVD version of CM coming out? ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 8. I have found the QB editor nearly impossible to create a historically accurate OB for anything larger than company size, given the point limits. Can't wait for 1.03 to overcome this! Until then, stick with smaller QB games if you want them to be historically accurate. I haven't done much PBEM, but I would prefer historical accuracy or "eveness" of play depending on what you want to get out of the game. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Havermeyer: Out of curiousity... but if a scenario included a "battle-scarred" sherman, would all shermans in that game look "battle-scarred" as well? In other words, can the same vehicle have unique textures in the application?

Yes, any vehicles that share the textures would all show them. Note that there are a couple of different texture sets for Shermans, but they are only to depict different versions (76mm gun models, Easy 8s, etc.) ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 10. I run 2 CD drives, as well (one is a CDR). This is probably the easiest and best way to get around the problems of leaving CDs in the drive, listening to music while playing something else, etc. Not too expensive, either if you consider a used CD drive and cable is only $(US)20-30 at most. As for backup copies, I always at least try to make a "backup" then use the "backup" to play and hide the original safely away... ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb

 12. First, dittos to Bullethead! My $.02 on the Gulf War and why we won so handily... To expand on his point #1, the Iraqi inability to communicate was one of the biggest reasons for their near-total lack of manuever once the "ground war" started. We had their commo nailed down so tight, some units were under orders to not use radios under ANY circumstances! What does that leave? Land line and runners, both of which were really vunerable to arty and air attack. In any modern battle, winning the information (C3I) war is a necessary precedent to winning the shooting war, no matter what type of conflict it may be. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 13. Decided to lighten the mood a bit... What's the WEIRDEST (or funniest) thing you've seen happen in CM lately? My example from a game I played last night: Had a Chuchill Croc and a JgdPz IV trade shots for nearly 2 straight minutes at 320m range before the croc got nailed in the side. Why is this weird? ALL but ONE of the croc's shots ricocheted (that's like 10 straight!). The JgPz wasn't much better; the first shot immobilized the croc then ricocheted 6 of 8 before getting the kill. My 10 yr old daughter thought it was hilarious watching the tracers fly... ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Simon: [bLet me ask, the 37mm flak was this usually "dual" on the M15a1? Or was it just a single gun?

Nope, just a single. IIRC, there were only minor differences between the M15 and M15A1. Mostly to do with improvements in the gun mounts and the splinter shield, I think. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Dar: However, when the next battle began, I find my setup area and surviving units being relocated a couple hundred meters behind where I started! There is no reason for my forces to be pulled back and give up ground like that. They stopped the enemy cold, and then decided to give up the ground they just fought over as a consolation prize? Methinks this is something that needs investigating. I am not happy about seeing my units willfully retreat. If they were "persuaded" to retreat during the battle, I could understand. Dar

Had this happen to me, as well. The reason the front keeps moving back has to do with the way the game computes the front lines based on the forces on the map and the size of "no-man's land" for that operation. Thus, as long as the US has sufficent forces (not sure how much is "sufficient"), they can roll back your positions by pushing back "no-man's land". ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 16. This begs some questions about the 88mm FlaK in the game. Is it considered to be firing from off of the wheel mounts (which it was at least capable of doing)? FWIW, I think taking it off those mounts might take a little more than the 5 minute unlimber time in the game. Also, if it is considered to still be on wheels, is the additional stability of being unmounted taken into account in scenarios where it is not moved/emplaced in "foxholes"? ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Simon: The flak HT in question apears to be a special varient or "funny"... Not only did it have the Quad .50 cal it had a 37mm flak. I was under the impression that the M16 only had the Quad .50 and the M15A1 only had the 37mm flak and two (seperate) .50 AAMG's (not that that's anything to sneeze at ) Anyone else ever heard of this monster?

Actually, the M15 had a 37mm main gun with 2 .50 cals coaxially mounted to either side. One other difference from the M16 was that the entire rear end of the vehicle was a gun "tub" that operated like a turret. The M16, of course, has a small turret mounted in the back of a (mostly) stock M3 HT. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Jarmo: I searched, but found nothing.

I feel your pain.
quote:
(Is the AI he or she? )

Let's see. Artificial: Not ocurring in nature; MANmade (see where this is going?) The AI is a SHE! 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Los: I have experienced in real life enemies moving through the kill zone without anyone firing a shot on several occasions as well as witnessed (at NTC) enemy forces even companies of armor moving through carefully set up anti-armor kill zones with everyone watching and reporting what's going on without anyone opening fire until it's too due to errors of coordination and ommissions of seemingly minor details in the fire plan. The **** happens for real. Los

Ah, memories. Why did that sort of thing never seem to happen to the OPFOR? Better still, having friendly recon elements falling back the wrong way and triggering the ambush! ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 20. Part of the "backwards" problem with the SdKfz 7/1 can be explained by the fact that the turret was SUPPOSED to fire to the rear It's designed for AA, after all, where facing doesn't matter as much. Look forward to the patch for the "spinning". ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 21. It really depends on the target and what kind of turret the tank has. Generally, if the infantry is stationary or moving towards/away from the tank, I'll use the main gun (ammo permitting). For crossing targets (especially close-in with slow/non-turreted armor), I'll only use MGs since the chance to hit with the main armament is usually not very good anyway. AT teams will nearly always draw the big guns (unless fleeing or 250-300m away) ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 22. I did a search and found nothing... Granted, the manual does say the time is approximate, I have no dispute with that. What I was questioning is the fact that there is almost no variance in the "2 for 1" timing once it's under one minute. In the operation I mentioned previously, I was able to start EACH battle (7 of them) the same way with that spotter with no more than 1 or 2 seconds of variance! Should "approximate" not equate to "variable" (at least a little bit?) ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 23. Did the PIATs have LOS to the point where the armor stopped? If not, that might be why what happened did. The tanks were close enough to "activate" the Ambush marker, but the PIATs couldn't see them. I usually try to place ambush markers a little beyond where I expect to actually have LOS to get around this. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 24. Back to the main point (sort of) How are multiple-gun mounts (Wirblewind)handled for accuracy/damage? Are they calculated as one or is there a separate calc for each gun? IIRC, the German 20mm guns in CM used 20 round magazines. As for pushing them around, the ease of pushing would really depend on whether or not they were limbered on their 2 wheeled carriage (like in "Saving Private Ryan"). If not limbered, I can't imagine them being moveable at all within the scope of CM. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
 25. Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply stupidity on anyone's part (except the MG gunners in your HT's, maybe ). That part was minly for the neophytes out there. Have you tried using the pause command in conjuction with the targeting? I'm game-less (at "work") right now, can't try it. If it works, it would at least allow for "timing" smoke, etc. ------------------ "Belly to belly and everything's better" - Russian proverb
