  1. willbell, You may be right, but then again why have only one 150mm gun on the island at all if not for support of the larger coastal guns?
  2. Star shells was my guess as well. The Fortress had 6x 194mm coastal guns, but only 1 150mm gun, so it would appear that it was to provide illumination for the larger guns at night.
  3. Look here Scroll halfway down to 'Stronghold Cézembre island', then click on 'Middle'. The second pic shows a destroyed German 150mm gun which the author of the website says was "used to shot Lightnings shells" Were they illumination shells for the larger 194mm coastal guns? Did this weapon have the capability to shoot standard 150 HE ordanance as well?
  4. No This is the one where the British Columbia Regiment goes up the wrong hill in the night and gets blown to pieces at dawn atop Point 140 by SS Tigers and Panthers. As for which side to play, the real challenge is to play against the German AI and survive with more than 25% of your original strength.

  6. I need to contact the designer of the CMBO scenario "Worthington Force". My e-mails to the address listed at the SD bounces back. He goes by the handle "Iron Cross". He can e-mail me directly at the address listed in my profile. Many thanks.
  7. While the Commonwealth did field the Sherman IIA (76mm) and Firefly (17 pdr), they were in the minority, at least during the Normandy campaign. The standard TO&E for a CW tank platoons was 3 75mm tanks (Sherman or Cromwell) + 1 Firefly. BTW, the Cromwell replaced the armored cars in the Recce troops, not Shermans of the armored regiments. The exception being the Brit 7th armored, which was equipped with Cromwells in it's armored regiments. Later on in the war uparmored and upgunned versions of the Cromwell began taking over for the Shermans.
  8. That is without doubt one of the biggest advantanges of Shermans over the more powerful German tanks. In reading 'Steel Inferno' the author describes Commonwealth tank units losing 20+ tanks in a day's worth of fighting, and the unit being brought back up to strength the next day. German Panzer formations were lucky to receive 20 tanks during the entire campaign in Normandy. Some never received a replacement tank at all.
  9. The CMBO scenario (actually two of them) are by Wild Bill. The titles are "Masstricht - Tough Tanker" and a smaller, tank-only version called "Masstricht - Tanks"
  10. "Fighting from three different Sherman tanks, Pool and his crew knocked out no less than 12 German tanks, most of which were theoretically superior to the Shermans in terms of armor and firepower" This from 3ad.com "At Namur, Belgium, "In The Mood's" crew destroyed sixteen enemy vehicles, including assault guns, self propelled anti-tank guns, plus several armored personnel carriers in one day" The second excerpt comes from 3ad.org
  11. Mile after mile of the dead impaled on 20 foot spikes.
  12. This trick worked in CMBO: Give a unit a 'withdraw' command, and scroll the plot line 360 degrees around the unit. The plot line will turn red when it is pointed towards an enemy map edge (not sure about a neutral edge)
  13. Sorry Jeff, I will not delete your name from the briefings. You will be hated the same as all of us....well, maybe not as much as rune
  14. I can send them to you if you (or anyone else) would like, but bear in mind that they are the original versions. Also bear in mind that "Wolf in Sheep's clothing" starts on T5, so it can only be played H2H with pre-chosen passwords. You'll need to line up an opponent and then send me the PWs you've chosen (or leave it to me to choose). E-mail me if you want the originals. Address is in my profile.
  15. For the most part, yes. Terrain wise, the differences are only in the graphics. Otherwise a wood tile in Italy is similar (gamewise) as one in NWE. Very easy to do with the Pyewacket's map converter. It takes a couple of mouse clicks to convert a 2km x 2km map in CMBO to CMAK, or vise versa. Afterwards you just add in the units and reinforcements. The Cromwell, King Tiger and M36 TDs are not availibale in CMAK, since they never served in Italy. Other units such as American Paratroopers are only available up to mid '44, at which point they were withdrawn for NWE, so you'll have to play with the parameter dates to get them to show up in later battles. About 50/50 for the scenarios that came with the CD.
  16. Concentrating your forces on one spot of the map will give enemy arty spotters a chubby.
  17. 12th SS Panzer suffered heavily from naval gunfire, as did the Panzer Lehr. IIRC, it was even worse for the German formations attacking the Salerno beach head.
  18. The easiest way to find out is to set the parameters to when the Aussies were present in NA, then check the vehicle / armor section in their unit purchase screen. IIRC, they were there from Jan '41 to sometime before Op Crusader (Nov '41), left for a while, then came back for a brief stint from July to Nov / Dec '42. Their first tour of duty is when you will most likely find them with captured vehicles.
  19. Staffordshire is a region in England, much like Wessex or Norfolk. British divisions were named for regions in the UK as a sort of regional identity, since they drew men from that region. In addition to the 59th (Staffordshire) you also had the 15th (Scottish), 43rd (Wessex) and 51st (Highland) divisions in NWE among others.
  20. Here are a few from Boots and Tracks. You can also contact Richie of B & T and ask for his battle of Berlin pack. I just released a Staffordshire scenario pack for CMBO. You can pick it up at the depot.
  21. I am almost certain that I've seen this site posted on these boards before, either here or at the CMBO forum. In any event, here it is again.
  22. Unless a real showstopper comes out, and this one isn't, then you are correct. You can still resave during a game, since the first two conditions I mentioned must be met before saving in order for this bug to appear, and even then it won't show 100% of the time.
  23. According to this 1st SSF site, one man in each squad was equipped with the Johnson LMG.
