  1. [hijack my own thread] Assume HMS Vanguard survived into the 80's much like the Iowas - mothballed but operational - and Argentina decided to invade the Fauklands anyway. How would she be employed, if at all? How would Argentina respond? What affect would she have on particular battles (Goose green, Wireless ridge, etc) and the campaign as a whole?[/hijack my own thread]

  3. Thanks. For some reason I thought the purpose of the 4-2 arrangement was so that the 'B' turret would act as a range finder, bracketing the target, and then followed up by a 4-gun salvo from the 'A' turret.

  5. 1) What was the rational for the 4-2 main gun layout on the KGV class? 2) What unit(s) provided NGF for the attack on Maltot during Operation Jupiter in July '44? Thanks in advance

  7. AIUI, there weren't any 105mms around for the Normandy Campaign, or at least the early portion of it. DOes anyone know the who, what, and where of the 105s coming into action? </font>
  8. Generally, the two main combat commands (A & were composed of a battalion each from the tank and armored infantry regiments, to which additional assets such as recon, arty, anti-tank and engineers may have been added. Sometimes these were beefed up by adding an additional tank or armored infantry battalion. Everything else would end up in Combat command reserve, or CCR. Look here
  9. This site contains ad-hoc American taskforces. This site covers the Commonwealth.
  10. Bert and Gort (sounds like a Swedish rock band), I've e-mailed you 49th Recce. Enjoy
  11. For #1 you'll need to search for "Brecourt Manor".
  12. ...is unfortunately not available in either CMBO or CMAK, so... What do you all think is a good substitute? 1) Daimler AC 2) Daimler AC w/ Littlejohn adapter 3) Humber IV AC 4) Staghound I 5) Stuart III/IV/V Here is the info on the Tetrarch.
  13. ...pick up post #300? Aw, that is so nice of you Mike. I'm sure he will appreciate it.
  14. "This is the end Beautiful friend This is the end My only friend, the end Of our elaborate plans, the end Of everything that stands, the end No safety or surprise, the end I'll never look into your eyes...again" Or is it?
  15. This is just some friendly advice for those interested in converting CMBO scenarios to CMAK, and would like to keep the conversion as close to the orginal as possible. First, keep in mind that unlike CMBO, CMAK imposes a delay on all movement, and the longer/more compex the plot the longer the delay. Why is this important? Because in CMBO it was common for scenarios to have reinforcements arrive in the same location and within a turn or two of a unit already on the map. This wasn't normally a problem since most delays in CMBO were 15/30 seconds, allowing plenty of time for the first batch to clear the area before the reinforcments arrive. Not so in CMAK, where the delays can extend into the second and third turn before the units begin moving. The result is the mother of all traffic jams. Take a moment and check the arrival times of the CMBO reinforcments, and adjust the CMAK times accordingly. Another option is to set the reinforcement marker in a new location, far enough away to avoid the traffic jams, but close enough so that the conversion remains true to the original. Secondly, CMAK allows prep bombardments, which come in accurately and with no delay. This poses a problem with conversions, since these scenarios have been played countless times before and the opposing side's setup zones are well known. There are two solutions which I have used in the past. The first is to increase the setup zones, thereby allowing the player mulitple options on where to actually deploy. This usually does the trick since no player is going to risk wasting his arty on what might be an empty field (remember that prep bombardments cannot be cancelled or retargeted once it begins). This also increases the scenarios replayability, a nice bonus. The other option is to bring in any arty units as reinforcements, thereby negating the prep bombardments. Now, having said all this, I would add that if you are converting someone else's CMBO scenarios (as I have done many times) then you should obtain permission from the original designer first to convert his work, and secondly to make any changes. Why am I bringing this up? Well, you'll see...
  16. Did your dad eat his liver with with some fava beans and a nice chianti?
  17. Forget about #3. You do not want to bump into SMG-equipped Russians at night. Best to adopt 4-1-2 approach, with your final positions fronted by open spaces of at least 40 meters or the extent of LOS, whichever is greater. BTW, which Op is it? Sounds interesting.
  18. Thank you. The numbers jive with the typical Marder compliment normally found in Inf division's PzJg Abt. I just wanted to be sure since Zetterling's website sometimes mentions a division having Marders when their TO&E shows Pak(Sf), while other times it just says PzJag.
  19. When a division's Panzerjager Abteilung shows as having "fourteen 7,5 cm PAK 40 (Sf) in 1. Kompanie" does this mean Marders or towed Pak 40s?
  20. You must be running multiple Cray-IIs in series if you can play the first turns of To the Volga with a smokescreen.
  21. You should have sent it to jwxspoon's CMvention, care of wwb.
  22. You can't access the editor if the game began as a QB
  23. It is certainly possible to do it as you describe, but the downside is the battles are less 'connected' as those on an Op. Another thing is you would need a great many maps and OOB selections in order to cover most of the possible outcomes from the previous battles, and which each new outcome the possibilities grow further.
  24. But you can't take something like due process, whose principle is that of fairness and equality regardless of the circumstances surrounding the crime, and apply it selectively. It negates the entire concept. If anything, due process must be applied to the most heinous of crimes in order to affirm its legitimacy in a civilized world.
