  1. This image of Custer's Last Stand hill reminds me of a certain hill in VoT. Hill 209 to be exact. If you haven't been to Little Bighorn, you should go at the first opportunity. It is a truly somber place. It stands as an eternal reminder of the terrible fruits of folly and arrogance.
  2. Easy Eight wins the best post award. That's a classic.
  3. Try these http://www.enteract.com/~rheller/ww2/weapons2.htm#top This next one should satisfy your search. http://www.wargaming.net/tanks/usa.htm [This message has been edited by Blackhorse (edited 05-31-2000).]
  4. I'm shocked that Sweden refused to accept their surrender. I guess they figured Norway was better equipped to handle POWs.
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Joe Shaw: Why you can almost smell the pipe tobacco as we calmly ruminate upon the merits of the Panther or the Firefly. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> You got to use the Firefly?! Fess up, you already got your copy of the game didn't you?
  6. Hi Jochen Your grandfather endured a very tough and harrowing experience. That is a great many years in captivity by a tough group of people. At least he survived it, and at least you had the chance to get some grandfatherly advice from him. You will always carry the memory of him with you. I agree with you regarding this forum. It is a great place, with many good people.
  7. That very exact thing happened to me as the Germans. Wesriedau pulled that trick on me and destroyed my Panther, and pretty much any hopes I had of saving my defense in VoT. My Panther crew was confused and clearly out of their league. They first targeted one tank, then the other, then the first again, all the while NEVER firing a shot. Yes, the main gun was operational, and yes they were quickly dispatched by a 75mm at close range. This whole encounter prompted the "My Guys Suck" bug to come to light. I am still waiting on the patch Good to see I'm not the only one affected by it. Albeit seems it's your opponent and not you personally.
  8. Smaragdadler I was stationed in Fulda and spent much time touring Thuringen. I have been to Jena, Auerstadt, Cospeda, Weimar, and virtually every small town between Fulda and Dresden. Great place that Thuringen. Lindan I once participated in the Hochsauer Land Marsch. Was that in your town? As for me, I am Half German on my mothers side. She was born and raised in Ost Preussen in a town called Rehhof (sp) now called Riejevo as a part of Poland. My German grandfather fought in WWI as a cavalryman in Kaiser Wilhelm's Guard Currassier Cavalry. He fought exclusively on the Eastern Front, and made it so far as Schmolensk. In WWII he was a Colonel, assigned as a Veterinary Officer during the invasions of Poland and France (germany had mostly horse transports during the war). After France, he was finally retired and allowed to enjoy the short few years of peace he would have. Both my German uncles fought for the Wehrmacht in WWII. One was in the 3rd Mot Infantry, the other in the 26th Inf Dom Division. The one in the 26th was captured by the Russians in 1943. He was not released until 1948. The one in the 3rd Mot survived the war, amazingly, since the 3rd Mot went down in Stalingrad (he had been evacuated long before the encirclement though). He finished the war on the Western Front fighting our brave American lads. At War's end, he simply abandoned his acht rad and walked to the nearest farm and hid out for a while. Anyway, My dad, is american, my mon German. German was my first language, as Dad was away fighting in Viet Nam at about the same time I learned to speak. That of course changed once he got home I decided to follow in all their footsteps and am a cavlaryman in the US Army. My fondest memories to date are of my time in Fulda. 9. That would be kinda cool Paw. That way you could watch a battle unfold before your eyes. Maybe BTS will incorporate that in CM2.
  10. Select the unit, then hit the TAB key (key to the left of "Q".)
  11. While the AI is good, it will never measure up to a human opponent.
  12. One Word... Combined Arms Never leave tanks roaming around unsupported by your infantry. Doing so invites the inevitable panzerschreck/bazooka/faust up the ole wazoo. Use you Artillery, Armor and Infantry in coordination with and support of each other.
  13. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by MH: Is it possible that the InControl Tools are not installed? Go to the Diamond page and download them there http://www.diamondmm.com/customer_caretechnical_supportdrivers.htm
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by ThunderDuck: It seems to me that even when in exellent covering terrain, they are easily spotted by enemy units. Without getting to specific, in VOT my spotters are being fired at a few seconds into the game even though they are in tall pinesI learn something new everytime I play it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> A couple quick questions for you. Have you issued them the "Hide" command? Are you playing against the AI or against a human? if you are playing a human, there is a strong chance they have played the scenario before and know to pepper the hill and trees with indirect fire to suppress your FOs. If it is against the AI, then you probably need to "hide" the poor FOOS
  15. Pretty dang cool MadMatt. Reminds me of the -sniff- good old days.
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by John Kettler: The next Russian tank coming around the corner saw a captured tank. The result was almost as much fun as dropping Molotov cocktails into BTR-152s from the rooftops, and it didn't require any ammo expenditure--just guts!<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant.
  17. Not 100% sure, but I seem to recall reading that it will be possible to do the things you mentioned.
  18. suppression. It causes the other guy to button-up. Once buttoned, your tankers become blind fools, stumbling head on into anti-tank ambushes set by Wesriedau
  19. Troops Land in Sweden by Mistake .c The Associated Press STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - With their field packs, camouflage uniforms and weapons, the 116-member elite Italian military unit was ready for anything except, perhaps, map reading. The heavily armed Alpini, as Italy's elite alpine corps is called, hit the ground in neutral Sweden instead of in NATO-member Norway, where they were supposed to join the Cooperative Banners exercise. It was not clear why their Airbus passenger plane mistakenly landed in southern Sweden's Kristianstad instead of Kristiansand, which is in southern Norway, on Thursday. The soldiers did not know they were in Sweden until immigration officials pointed out the navigational error, Swedish and Norwegian news reports said. It was the first time immigration officers in Kristianstad turned back a NATO advance, the news media noted. ``This happens now and then,'' airport director Lennart Nilsson said about the mix-up between Kristianstad and Kristiansand. ``There are just a couple of letters - but 400 kilometers (250 miles) - separating the two cities.'' After about two hours in Sweden, the troops re-boarded their plane and headed for Kristiansand. AP-NY-05-26-00 1152EDT
