1. What did I tell you...I told you so... I never did like 3Dfx because of their emphasis on speed rather than quality. Yeah, so what if your video card can push several million polygons per second, but if it displays ****ty images on those polys, what's the use? I have and always will take quality over quantity. ------------------ --"We want information." --"Information." --"Information." --"Who are you?" --"The new Number 2." --"Who is Number 1?" --"You are Number 6." --"I am not a number, I am a free man!" --"Hahahahahahahaha."
2. Not to sound harsh here, but don't you guys realize that Tiger only tends to send his MODS to CMHQ? And then you know how long, sometimes, it takes for Madmatt to post them. It seems that Tiger should send his stuff to Kump if he wants to get them up relatively quickly. Sooner or later, when I get the MAXIMUS MOD HQ up, anybody that wants to get their mods up ASAP can send them to me.
3. Originally posted by Marlow: While we are talking about adding mythological beasts, how about one for the Americans: T-28 95 tons and 105mm main gun. ----------------------------- Actually, IIRC, all of those vehicles were originally on the vehicle list prior to the Gold Demo. They pulled those vehicles due to the rarity of them, such as the Sturmtiger, and the engagement ranges of the others like the sIG33 and Brumbar. The only time those SPA vehicles could be used is on a very large map and kept at the back edge. So what BTS did was to provide spotters for these vehicles in the form as an 150mm Arty spotter as Olle said. These vehicles are considered to be just off-map. Probably the use of these vehilces in other games were a bit abstracted as far as their minimum range. Remember, the battlefields in Talonsoft's Campaign (Front) series were a LOT larger than the battlefields in CM. Hell what was the size of one hex in those games? 250m?
4. As far as Grass Mods go, I whipped up a "Muddy Grass' mod yesteday using Richard Tremblatt's original Velvet Grass and just adding brown speckles with my charcoal tool set at 100 brush size. I always thought that the grass looked too "clean" to be a battlefield. I use Kump's trees and tree bases and the grass looks fine with them. I may not quite be done with them as I didn't quite do them uniformly. I may go back and redo all them so the tile lines don't show up as bad. They don't now, but if you look hard enough you can see them.
5. Actually Rob/1 has the answer here. Dudes, look. The thread starter is a Junior Memeber who is apparently unaware of the planned sequels. TomTom, BTS fully plans to do the entire European Theater of Operations. CM2 will be the Eastern Front. CM3 will be the Mediterraean Theater (North Africa, Italy, Balkans) CM4 will be the Early War-Blitzkrieg. (Poland, France) Each game will contain enhanced features from the previous versions, however, older versions will attempt to be updated to the current standard in order to not out-date earlier volumes.
6. In PhotoImpact, you go 'Paste' then 'as new image'. ------------------ --"We want information." --"Information." --"Information." --"Who are you?" --"The new Number 2." --"Who is Number 1?" --"You are Number 6." --"I am not a number, I am a free man!" --"Hahahahahahahaha."
7. I just went and registered on their forum as "Maximus". I went to a thread called How well is EU doing?" and apparently it's not doing so well. Might be the 2D bit. To me it just looks like another re-hash of your typical colony conquer game. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 11-13-2000).]
8. Hire this guy to do the buildings for CM2! I love the look of peeled walls.
9. I don't usually do this when someone posts screens of MODS, but HEY, I like'em. So this coming from me, is a pretty damn good compliment.
10. I don't get it...game screens in English, but no English version of the game? Whaz up wit dat?
11. Sounds like an aweful amount of trouble will little or no benefit. In this case, and alot of the others I've heard cocked up, I think one needs to look at the trouble versus the benefits. I mean, lets re-route this cabel A over and under to connector C and bypass connection B, and then run cabel B over and across power conduit D and then connect to connector E, then maybe, just maybe, get a slightly different result. 12. While playing the Ramelle-SPR scenario, I had a FB take out the second Tiger and a few other AFVs, just like it happened in the movie. Also in another scenario, my FBs were quite effective taking out several AFVs in a town that I had lost site of, and once I got LOS to them, I realized that they were knocked out or abandoned.
13. Do those engineers use Cat D12's or something smaller?
14. Well since CM is a more or less, an infantry simulator, then yes. I often find that if I don't have enough infantry to take and hold an objective, then the game's pretty much shot. Another thing....tanks can't occupy buildings too well.
15.
quote:
Originally posted by Mirage2k: The use of fallen comrades' ammo is already modeled. If you'll notice, your infantry's ammo count never reaches zero. The lowest it can go is "low," which only means that they will not fire as often, and are probably not good units to attack with. This represents your men taking ammo from wounded, killed, or missing buddies. -Andrew

No flame attended here, but I'm not so sure about that. Because that doesn't explain the loss of ammo with casualties after movement. If a 2-man AT-crew takes a casualty and then moves, it's ammo is automatically reduced to 3. This simulates that less men can carry less ammunition.
16. Yes, only abandoned vehicles can be repaired, but only if they are within your current lines. Even then they won't show up for several battles later. I just played an Operation myself, "The King's Charge", I made sure everything was brewing by the battle's end. That ain't hard to do with several King Tigers. 17. I don't know, but I'd make sure to get one with a good refresh rate, otherwise you'll be stuck playing in a lower resolution.
18. Trying to keep this thread "on-topic", I thought the current US Doctrine towards recon was "recon-by air". If I'm not mistaken the first shots fired in the Gulf War were by Apache helicopters. The US now tends to scout the area with its ground support aircraft even before sending out the high flyers in order to suppress or destroy air defenses.
19. Just like the military... Turns idiots into geniuses and geniuses into indiots.. It's sad to see members on the same side to get all worked up over the differences in the services.
20. I'd have to say the Russian T-35 Heavy tank. That's the big multi-gunned, sumbitch that was around before the T-34s
21.
quote:
Originally posted by BevMcTrev: Also, is there anyone from Australia who knows where I can buy the game in Australia? Bevan McTrevor

You're at the place where you can get CM. Go here to place your order. Then about 10-15 (Australian shipping time) days later, you'll have it. CM is NOT, I repeat, is NOT, and never will be, available in stores. Please go read the Battlefront.com Manifesto. It will explain why. I had to explain this to my uncle this evening. He still thinks it's going to be in stores. I said, "Never happen." "Only available on-line." He wants me to buy him a copy for Christmas. I ain't gonna do it. He's scared to do anything on line for fear of credit card fraud or acquiring a virus. He won't download the latest patch or mods, so what's the use? 22.
quote:
Originally posted by russellmz: "when you absolutely, positively, have to kill every mother------ in the room; accept no substitute."

That's the AK-47 man! Not the MP44.
23. No, no, no, no....I must agree with -tink- here. OBSERVED does not mean ACTUAL. We do not celebrate the 4th of July on Friday the 3rd, just because the 4th is on a Saturday. Go ahead flame me for this one, but guess what, Croda? I don't give a flying f**k! Taking nothing away from the simbiance of Veterans Day, but it IS celebrated on Nov. 11. Seems like -tink-'s got the same mentality that I do. He hates all the bureaucratic bull**** just like I do.
