1.
quote:
Originally posted by Rob/1: P.C alwas get viruses. Get a Mac and all problems will be solved!

Huh? What? So a Mac is virus immune? I don't think so! Our local school system uses Macs, only because they struck a deal with Apple back in 1980 or something, and believe me, they are known to get system wide virus attacks.
 2. Large flags are supposedly worth 300 pts. Small flags are supposedly worth 100 pts. However the point total in the game is only 100 points in the AAR at battle's end. Flags marked with a "?" are neutral flags or ones you have not identified the ownership of yet (a FOW setting). Flags turn ownership when there is one's forces in the area with the absence of the enemy's force. However, if the flag area is still "in contest" the flag will appear as a "?". It stays that way until the enemy has been driven away from the area.
 3. About a week ago I received an email from the customer service address from my ISP warning me about some new viruses. It said to not open any email attachments with the following names: dwarf4you.exe joke.exe midgets.scr sexy virgin.scr And any emails from 'hahaha'. Well I just received an email tonight from: 'hahaha' with the attachment 'sexy virgin.scr'. As it was downloading and I saw the attachment, and I'm like "WHOAH! isn't that one of those viruses?" I checked that WARNING message and sure enough it was. So I promptly deleted that SOB! [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 12-09-2000).]
 4. Lewis, these have got to be the most laziness-oriented requests I have heard yet! I'll tell you why...
quote:
I really wish the "center on selected unit" was either the default or could be the right-click on the mouse. So instead of highlighting a unit and needing to hit the Tab key so I can shoot down to his level; I would automatically be there. Alternatively, I would like to perhaps hit the right click on the mouse and have it REPLACE the tab key.

This means that whenever you click on a unit it automatically goes down to the TAB-#1 view. Think about it. So then what do you have to do to find another unit to issue orders to. You have to '+' or '-' (cycle) around them or move out to a higher view point. What have you saved by doing this?
quote:
Its just so damn annoying to kick back and play a game and constantly go to the keyboard.

Whah, whah! My heart is bleeding for ya.
quote:
Another bitch is the left and right arrow keys (on the screen) at ground level. I find that they are too large in resolution and scoot me all the way to the left or right

Too large in resolution? Quit playing the game in 320x200 resolution! Scoot you around to much? Quit clicking on them and use your mouse to scroll...you like your mouse don't you?
quote:
I wish I could also just click on the flags and make them go away.

Quit your whining and hit "Shift-F". GEEZ! I'm sorry, but please have a legitimate complaint before you start pestering BTS. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 12-09-2000).]
 5. Point taken and understood, but isn't *that* what the "Sneak" command is all about? To me "Move" was just another form of "Run" but without the likely-hood of the men getting Tired.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: To be fair, no tank stood up well to attacking in Boccage. When the Germans tried it with Panthers and Tigers, they got into trouble too. The terrain was simply too restrictive. Couple this with inexperienced crews with a VERY experienced adversaries armed with plethora of deadly AT weapons ideal terrain, I don't think the US would have done any better with Pershings than with Shermans. Steve

I couldn't agree more. I have played this one boccage scenario at least 3 times now with the Germans including 4 Tigers and I still end up coming out at a DRAW. The boccage is so restricting that it is nearly impossible to fight a "normal fight". It's like the battles and firefights in 'Nam. Neither side really had an advantage. In this scenario, my Tigers do have an upperhand in terms of survivability, but it's the boccage crossing that the Shermans can do which equalizes the playing field. This sceanrio, BTW is the same one in which my "One bloody tough Sherman M4A1(76)" thread talks about. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 12-08-2000).]
 7. Oh don't give me that, a 56K works just fine. It might help if you had a ISP on your home computer.
 8. The M7 Priest is one of the most favorite AFVs on this board. It is a hellacious anti-infantry machine. Get one away from any anti-tank threat and start laying waste to some infantry or field guns. One good direct hit on any of the above things usually results in a pretty good body count. Don't under-estimate self-propelled 105mm arty. As for a tank-killer, it really wasn't designed as one, but they do carry a few shaped charges. They have been known to knock out medium tanks like PzIVs and such. They're really good for knocking out halftracks with their HE. A Priest in the right place and the right time can turn the tide of a battle. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 12-08-2000).]
 9. Let me chime in here also real quick. Dead bodies were put in just shortly before the Gold Demo was released back in May. There were heated arguements on the basis that the objective of the game was to not glorify war or "blood & gore". However, before the dead bodies were put in, the squad just disappeared and one was left wondering what happened to their poor little squad. As to laying a dead body down as to everytime a squad would take a casualty wasn't done because it would badly clutter the field. Also as Doug said, since everything in CM is rendered in 3D polygons, having each and every soldier displayed would be a huge hit in polygon counts. The fact of the matter is that most people OVER-ESTIMATE what today's hardware can do. Many people compare CM's graphics with graphic engines like Quake III and Unreal Tourney and then wonder why CM's graphics aren't as detailed and clear. Well ask yourself this question...How many polygons are actually rendered at one time in those games? Not very many. As an example, I run a Celeron 433 w/128MB RAM, and a 32MB TNT2 Ultra card. I can run FPS games just fine. But when I fire up CM and a large map with lots of units, my system screams, "I need more power, Captain!" (In best Scotty voice)
 10. Honestly, Wolf, I don't think that one will pass Madmatt's "filter" and it shows the blocky tiles between elevations.
 11. No, in CM's case, Print Screen saves the screen image in Windows' Clipboard. You must then paste it to a paint program. I use PhotoImpact 4.2 as Rex mentioned.
 12. "Um, how is it very funny? It amuses you, funny? What do you mean it's funny?" Sorry, bad "Goodfellas" joke. Couldn't help myself. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 12-08-2000).]
 13. What are you doing here Doug? Start downloading some mods!
 14. This has been an on-going request by the community, but this feature may not even make it into CM2. So no, this featuire is NOT in the full version. There's a lot more to it than just stringing all the movies together. It has something to do with the way the game was encoded in dealing with the calculations of the movies.
 15. See my "One bloody tough M4A1(76)" thread. I hit one of those 3 times with a Tiger's 88mm cannon and it still lived to EXPLODE my Tiger in one hit. 2 hits were track hits, the third was a front penetration in the hull I think and it survived.
 16. You're kidding me! You're still playing with the stock CD textures? What are your current computer specs? I've got a pretty average system, actually getting to be considered a low-end machine right now and I'm running loads of hi-res mods. Gonna upgrade real shortly though to probably a AMD 900MHz Thunderbird. Depending on prices that is.
 17. That's nothing new. I did that myself. Just darkened DD's grass and snow up with a contrast adjustment. ------------------ "We're not gonna just shoot the bastards`, we're gonna cut out their living guts, and use them to grease the treads of our tanks." "We're going to murder those lousey hun bastards by the buschel." "The Nazis are the enemy, wade into them, spill their blood, shoot them in the belly." "We are not holding our position, let the hun do that." "We are advancing constantly, we are not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy." 18. This problem happens all the time when I register at other boards too. The browser keeps it for a couple days and then it is lost.
 19. What's the crew compliment of these vehicles? If it's only one, who's gonna drive the thing while shooting the gun and vice versa. Of course, if it's more than one, then my argument is shot to hell.
 20. Well first of all, let's get some things straight here. CM II is considered to be a total reworking of the engine, a new generation of the engine and game system. CM2:Barbarossa & Beyond (I think-namesake) is the next game planned in this CM series. The game system won't be changed a whole hellava lot. CM1 took 3 years to make becuase they worked from scratch. Now that the basic game system is done, CM2 won't take near as long to complete. All (but still not to taken lightly) there is to do for CM2 is research on all the new weapon systems and model building. Plus some of the requested enhancements such as a wider range of building models for things such as factories and maybe sewer fighting. Expect this to take at least another 18 months or so. And then comes CM3:Mediterranean War, (no good name for this version yet). This version will be North Africa, Italy, and the Balkans. And then finally CM4:Blitzkrieg (The Early War) Poland and France, same period as WWIIOnline. We'll be lucky to see CM4 by 2005. The following games may not take as long to make because a lot of 3D models will haave been made already. CM2 is gonna take care of most of the rest of the German stuff. ------------------ "We're not gonna just shoot the bastards`, we're gonna cut out their living guts, and use them to grease the treads of our tanks." "We're going to murder those lousey hun bastards by the buschel." "The Nazis are the enemy, wade into them, spill their blood, shoot them in the belly." 21. Hey I had a SS squad take out a Pershing too with a catostrophic explosion at that. I even have a screenshot of it. Wish I could post it though.
 22. (Bump) Does anybody else have any suggestions. I'd really hate to have to reformat the drive. But I would only do that when I get a new drive. ------------------ "We're not gonna just shoot the bastards`, we're gonna cut out their living guts, and use them to grease the treads of our tanks." 23. Should I? or shouldn't I? Maybe if he starts spelling "want" correctly.
