  1. Are you taking lessons from Farté or something? Trying to fill a whole page with posts by yourself? Get a squire to do it for you. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  2. He just sort of disappeared. Did anyone play any games with him? I've put together a pretty cool scenario that would be a great introduction to the cesspool for a couple of squires. I think it's pretty balanced, and it starts off pretty nice, though it's really intended for all hell to break loose about halfway through. Any suckers...er...I mean takers? And what about that Duck Fondler? He made such a show and then once he made a date with shandorf and Seniletea he fell off the map. He's probably going to kill them and eat them. If we don't hear from either one of them after tomorrow evening we ought to send that gamey bastard, Germanboy, over to Minneapolis to check things out. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  3. I didn't think Peng was allowed to start a Peng thread. It's the Peng Challenge thread, and while it may be true that Peng challenges himself (Sit Down Bauhaus, I didn't mean it that way!!!) it seems somehow inappropriate. It'd be like when John Malkovich goes into his own brain through the hole in the 7.5th floor and sees his own inner thoughts and memories. For his own safety we can't allow Peng to do something like that. Plus it will piss him off if we don't go to the threads he starts. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  4. I started reading the board in 12/99, but since everything was just fine, and the AI kept me entertained with the beta demo, I didn't bother to register. I think my first post was to ask someone to pass the salt. (edit) Oh, and Foobie-- could you edit your post to make OGLWEBGTEGHTGHTGHRWHWIEGFERG'S name a little longer, I only have to page right once to read it all. 3-4 times would be better. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd [This message has been edited by chrisl (edited 03-26-2001).]
  5. I can't believe you haven't been told the real title for CM2: CM2: All Your Base are Belong to Us ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  6. The AI isn't very good on the attack to start with, and when there's no flags for it to use as reference it gets very confused. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  7. It's the damn short threads. I can't remember the last time we got to more than a few hundred before we got moved, and it's always in those first 5-6 pages that the riff-raff stop by for a sniff. Most of them never return, but when you never get past 8 or 10 pages, the sniffers always seem to be poking their noses in. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  8. If they were using little plastic green army men on a pile of dirt and throwing rocks at them they would never have to do that either. If they quit playing CM and joined a monastery with vows of no computer games they would never have to do that. If they both ate some badly canned salsa and got botulism they would never have to do that. There's lots of things they could do so that they would never have to do that. So what's so special about yours? ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  9. Since you seem to enjoy things by Rune so much, you might enjoy playing something even more extreme-- Crodaburg for example. I'll send you a setup this afternoon or evening. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  10. Like Dirtweasel said-- this will take some time to set up. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  11. I don't think I would call that gamey-- unfortunately you can't voluntarily abandon the trucks. It also isn't likely to have much, if any, effect besides getting the trucks killed--they won't be a barrier to the advancing brits. That's a tough scenario to play from the German side. Hopefully you're playing the revised version that at least has the visibility restricted by night. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  12. Oh, yes. I suppose you're right. That's quite impressive that you know where you live. I was thinking of Bam-Bam. All you newbies start to look alike after a while. "Blather blather gimmee game wugga wuggaa kick all your asses ouch ouch, no stop help". and then you disappear. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  13. Might I suggest Crodaburg as the setting for your match? It ought to be Bam-Bam as allies against the defending Peter"Can hoof and mouth be spread by intimate contact?"NZer. Croda-- Please make the aforementioned scenario available to the hoof-and-mouth boy. Oh, and why not have Stevethegit play Gilligan's Island against Oleo? Neither is from the US so they probably won't be spoiled by knowledge from the TV series. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd [This message has been edited by chrisl (edited 03-23-2001).]
  14. Sick little puppy, aren't you... ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  15. But that's nothing that a few blows to the head with the brick won't cure. Is the brick still around? I thought Meeks might have tried to leave it in antarctica. They're cheap anyway, and we can always pick up a new block of concrete or a paving stone cheap if it needs to be replaced. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  16. Terrain does matter-- running in snow is very tiring to troops, and presumably mud as well. I think there was a post from BTS some time in the past that they don't shoot any less accurately when they're tired. They can't sneak though when they're weary (they pant too loudly). ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  17. To add a little clarification: click preview from the map generator screen. It will show all the units lined up along the map edges, and you can do all the placement you want from there. Flags are moved around by clicking on them just like units. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  18. Rune was quite harsh on little morse (380-something casualties to my 140-something, plus he lost a battalion or so of armor, compared to 5 fixed guns and a few 2" mortars)-- he was supplied with overpriced hamsters, and not really in immense quantities at any given time, while I had some sort of übertommies that vaporized his troops as they approached. Given how lopsided this one was, one might really do justice by noting the victory for Rune. But then, who cares about justice-- just mark it down for me. In all fairness, and to further tarnish the reputation of morse, I would be willing to play this one as the Germans against him, even though the thrill of blind play is gone. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  19. jd is trying to bore me into surrendering by continuing to play in what for him appears to be a hopeless battle. We're in the third battle of 7, and so far I've eliminated almost his entire force twice. The third annihilaiton is well under way, but it looks as though this time more of his troops will run off the map edge than be shot. He managed an amazing feat of crowding an entire company of broken troops into what looked like a single terrain tile-- it's some sort of "clown rough terrain" bug, or else Eddie is in the space-time continuum again and jd has troops popping out of a wormhole near the map edge. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  20. I also didn't think much about crossfire, since CM doesn't model it. That might be a good case for trying to get it modeled into a future version, as massed fires work just fine in CM, even when there are friendlies very nearby. I did recognize the arty problem, but figured the defenders would be unlikely to bring it down fast enough (though they could possibly predict where it should fall). A bunker or pillbox could certainly hang up my plan, especially parked at the gap in the bocage. I actually tried another version, where I sent troops to set up a fire base in the houses at the beginning of the town, but they got chewed up trying to go through the bocage, and I decided to try a plan through the woods. And it was certainly fun to do. It's the first time I've enjoyed playing against the AI since I played my first PBEM (when the Gold Demo came out). It's nice to think of it as a small tactical problem rather than trying to beat the AI. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd [This message has been edited by chrisl (edited 03-21-2001).]
  21. It only restarts if you adjust by more than 100m, even without LOS. Someone else will have to comment on the realism. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  22. I think they were all weak spot hits. There were plenty of ricochets, and one was immobilized before being destroyed. It doesn't particularly bother me--if you have that many Stuarts within 100 m something is seriously wrong. They could practically ram it and jam their gun in the turret ring and fire... ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  23. I did a similar one with 15 stuarts against 3 King Tigers. after two turns of contact: 6 dead stuarts, 3 dead KT. It was more than a little contrived though, since I played it hotseat and let the KTs just sit there and shoot (though their backs were sort of against some trees). ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  24. I use a mac and I've had as many problems with people with macs as with pcs. It seems to depend more on your email program and the servers that you and your opponent use. I use Eudora and have had problems with people who use AOL/Netscape. The funny thing is that their attachments show up differently depending on which of my addresses they send to, even though I use the same mailer for all addresses. A few things to try: -Download "Zipit" and send them zipped - try setting your encoding to "mime" (aka "appledouble" -try simply dropping the ".txt" suffix (that fixes my problems with Netscape/AOL) - if nothing else works, open the file in a true text editor (not MSWord!!!) like BBedit lite (which is available free from bare bones software) and then simply copy and paste the file into the body of the message. Ugly but it ought to work, even in the worst cases. Eudora has a feature that lets you insert the file directly, so I don't have to use a separate editor. ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
  25. Pengtopia? Pengs for the Memories? ------------------ "I HATE THIS GAME, YOU AND THIS SCENARIO" -jd
