Yes of course, this gives pride in yourself, your colleagues and most importantly your unit. Does parade help with discipline? Yes you have to obey commands and act as a cohesive unit, to learn your own job and to rely that your pals are all doing their own. No doubt the modern countries will now answer in droves stating it has no modern use..but consider this, what class does your average grunt come from? Discipline and following order has to start some where. I personally enjoyed being on parade, I felt proud and my family were very proud of me...my gradfather was close to tears as it reminded him of his own service days. What a better way to show the public what the new recruit can now do. Parade is Good...so there!

Drilling just for the sake of drilling is bit of overkill. However, I ask you this: take two large groups of troops (say around a company) and move them from the barracks to the theater for a briefing. One group moves in a big gaggle, while the other group moves in formation. Question: which group looks more professional? If the onlooker is another soldier, the appearance may not make a big difference. If the onlooker is someone not associated with the military, however, the formation makes a better impression. Just my $.02.

Muzzle flashes, flash/bangs, etc further ruin your night vision. It gets confusing really fast, and I can certainly see how people get twisted around and mistake their flanks for the front! Without NVDs or a lot of flares on a moonlit night - I challenge you, lcm, to identify friend from foe in the middle of an intense firefight. BTW: Nice to see another 12B around (I changed MOS's after being a 19K in Germany). I have to say I liked it better as a tanker, but the engineers I met were a really good group of guys. 5.
quote:
Originally posted by corn55: Ordered CM a few days ago. All I received was the automated message saying that the order has been received. I live in Ohio, and assumed it would be here by now. I have sent numerous emails to every possible email address listed on their website, and I got no responses. All I am asking is if my order had been shipped yet. No phone numbers, just a POBox somewhere in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. I have always said never deal with a company that doesn't list a telephone number. I'm not saying they are crooks, I'm just saying it's bad business. How hard can it be for one of them to respond saying order# has been shipped or not. I am tempted to go download the warez version of CM.

BTS if by far the most responsive of any software developer out there. Please be patient and I'm sure someone will be with you shortly. If nothing else, send MadMatt a quick email. BTS please fix or do somefink!

E-mail works real well such superfulous rhetoric except the grandstand isn't quite as large as it is here. Anyone taking bets on when the locksmith gets here...? printt p.s.: flame away

Flamethrower on: Everybody lock your doors, get a gun, protect yourself! Mr. Printt is planning to seek temporary tactical alliances with dishonest, disaffected libidinous-types in order to convince others that ignominious clunks are the "chosen people" of scriptural prophecy! In the first place, he does not tolerate any view that differs from his own. Rather, Printt discredits and discards those people who contradict him along with the ideas that they represent. Hostile, juvenile lummoxes suffer from a collective self-image that prefers victimization to success and imposes a suffocating group conformity that ostracizes nonconformists. Equally important is the fact that I try never to argue with him, because it's clear he's not susceptible to reason. Okay, there's no reason for me to be rude, so I'll leave you with this concept: Mr. Printt accepts -- or, at least, feels obligated to pretend to accept -- the ideological premises of fogyism. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They lack morals, character, and honesty. They elevate Mr. Spkr's effusions to prominence as epistemological principles. In case you can't tell, I'm talking about Mr. Spkr here. For starters, it's unfortunate that Mr. Spkr has no real education. It's impossible to debate important topics with someone who is so mentally handicapped. His credos are a drugged-out carnival of insurrectionism. If you don't believe me, see for yourself. Mr. Spkr wants to take the focus off the real issues. What's wrong with that? What's wrong is Mr. Spkr's grasp of reality. All of this once again proves the old saying that Mr. Spkr is trying very hard to plug the hole in his dike of lies so that no more truth leaks out. Not much more to say than that...

 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Cybeq: Oops, i forgot to mention the important stuff. What I purchased. I bought 2 regular infantry companies, six panzerschrecks, one 81mm mortar FO, one vet sniper, one vet Hetzer, one vet StuH42, one vet Sdkfz (37mm flak), one mg-42 lmg, and umm I think that's it. My sniper popped his Churchill tank commander on turn 3 or 4. I felt confident I could flank it and did. But with the wrong tank! I used the StuH 42 because it was closer and paid dearly for my mistake. If I wouldn't have made so many mistakes early on I could have held out and possibly pulled a win out of it. Looking back I should have had more arty, less panzerschecks, and definately a PZIV/70. When playing Fionn's Panther 76 the Allied player can buy a Jumbo or a Church. This means a hetzer will have a hard time killing one and a StuH42 doesn't have a chance! I'm learning more playing by E-mail than I ever did playing the AI.

If it's any consolation, it sounds as if you're opponent had a strange force arrayed against you (I could say "ahistorical", but I'm not sure what you're agreement was on this beforehand). I've never seen an opponent mix Americans and Brits before. Most of your PBEM opponents will most likely do less cherry picking than this guy apparently did.

 17.
quote:
Originally posted by GenSplatton: You can do the cute little rolly eyes all you want, but nothing in that thread had anything to do with the topic. Other than the first two posts, the thread has never been updated with anything useful. Yes, he mentioned it is replied to occassionally to move it to the top, but the fact is, that's the ONLY thing that's ever been added to it, drivel, as opposed to anything useful. Had he said "The FAQ has never been updated, only quips to move it to the top have been added since it's origination," then your comment would have been warranted. However, he didn't, so it's not. I expected that at least a FEW of the posts would have been additions to the FAQ itself. However, that's not the case. I'd have to say from the responses, or lack thereof, the Beginners Guide probably died a slow and quiet death.

The FAQ is update from time to time, Mr. Smarty Pants. Russel periodically adds new content to the initial post. I better get out of the way before someone kicks your high horse out from under you.

The latter pages of "drivel" are just there to keep the thread on the top page or two of the forum. I believe Maximuspad mentioned this in his posting above...

 21. Just curious: do any of you actively assign targets to your sharpshooters, or do you just let them plink away at will? I find that I rarely assign them targets, as they do a better job on their own. Occasionally, they'll waste their entire ammo load on a single squad if that's the only target they can see, but I try to hide the sharpshooter if he starts doing this.

 23.
quote:
Originally posted by PzKpfw 1: The bow MG is mounted on the front hull of the WW2 tanks opposite the driver. If you get a chance look at some WW2 photos of yjr frontal aspect of Shermans etc. You will see the bow 30.cal MG. The Co-axel MG was mounted beside the main gun in the turret, WW2 also occasionaly used the Co-Axel for sighting as well. On an accuracy/opticaal note from past discussions British Centurion tanks in the 1950's had US 50cal MGs co-axel mounted & modified to fire 3 round bursts of special tracer ammunition for sighting purposes. In tests using the 50cal to range they scored 90% 1st round 105mm hit's out to & above 1000m . This method was superior in results to all optical & range device results obtained at that time, but it was never adopted. Regards, John Waters [ 07-12-2001: Message edited by: PzKpfw 1 ]

One more point to add, is that as mentioned above, the coaxial MG and main gun are both fired by the gunner. They use the same sights, and usually the same controls, and therefore can't be fired simultaneously (at least not any vehicle that I've been in).
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by PzKpfw 1: So have I Capt, & I didn't know we were discussing a Co of tanks engageing Inf in ideal conditions. Inf doesn't just conviently expose themselves to a tank Co or Bn for target practice. & your still limited by what the gunner can see etc. I never said HE wasn't effective, just that once Inf entered MG range the MG was more effective, then the gunner sitting their shooting HE at single moveing targets Regards, John Waters

Exactly, John. On the M1s, we were trained to just spray an area with MG fire to suppress infantry targets. Hehe...You can barely even aim the loader's M240 without a lot of practice. When engaging with the coax MG, you're taught to use sweeping, Z patterns to saturate the area with fire. You simply can't suppress the same area with a main gun round - even with HE.
