  1. Just checked out the list of warships, and noticed that the Royal Navy is missing the Nelson class BB's.
  2. Just because MikeyD had to bring up Bill Mauldin:
  3. Ummmm, I don't know which link you clicked on, but that article is posted on Slate --- a reputable on-line magazine with ties to Newsweek, MSNBC, and the Washington Post. The only things listed to the right are links to other stories on the site, none of which have anything to do with "conspiracy theories". Unless, of course, you consider the advice columnist "Dear Prudence" some kind of agent-provocateur. The whole point being, that the current administration has been on a information clamp-down for some time now. As Dorosh points out, extensively under the umbrella of "national security", but more, as the article points out, for the reasons of bureaucratic self-importance ("because we can").
  4. If you read the article, they give several examples --- all but one of which (something about assembling a nuclear weapon, which should very probably have been classified to begin with), would fall under the heading of historical record, and not military secrets.
  5. About 187 of the Sherman version, 500 altogether --- though most looked like this:
  6. Just a little bumpage for the month of Oktober. What's the news?
  7. It's called the M36B1 Jackson: A 90mm gun mounted on a Sherman chassis. (Though, most production models went with the M10 chassis --- the M36B2). It came over to France in July of 1944, so one could expect that Oddball would have seen one, and came up with his brilliant piece of mis-direction from there. Sergei: Is it a 105mm Sherman mounting a flamethrower? Would be a great bunker-buster, I expect. [ October 04, 2006, 02:50 AM: Message edited by: von Lucke ]
  8. If I was REALLY there, it'd be a nice, boring, action: Sit back and call in an overwhelming artillery strike, wait for the enemy to pull out, then advance into their vacated positions. But that doesn't make for much of a game.
  9. wonderful! But he left the unit bases on in one of the shots (the ATGs) !!! GaJ </font>
  10. Using the "Road to Marigny" photo as an example, if I wanted to move on the town from the E - W road labeled "D972", I'd have to plow through (at the least) 9 - 10 hedgerows. Not exactly a walk in the park --- especially under fire. I'd imagine it would take most of the day to go what's prolly only 2 - 3 miles.
  11. Ummmmmmmmm, what's a cusk? Oh, and follow-up question: Does it have a digestive tract?

  13. You mean like this? I think this was more a case of "desperate times call for desperate measures" than a long-term solution. As Kinfish pointed out, it's rather hard on the transmission. If you want to see the ultimate evolution of the portee, check out the British-built Deacon. (Seems kind of a waste of good armor-plate to me, but whatever...). And yes, the CM engine treats portees as trucks --- much like the German flak trucks. Can be a bit of a pain at times, getting them to shoot rather than flee. Not to mention their vulnerability to small-arms fire.

    Melee?

Don't believe everything you see at E3. Like most hype-fests, it's 50% BS.
  15. He's in Boulder. We Lowlanders in Denver don't claim him.
  16. "Depending on sense of humor, gameplay experience may differ."
  17. Oh, I'm interested, alright. CMC is what I wanted out of the CM franchise from day one. Sign me up.
  18. Heh. I had something similar happen, only in reverse: It was the initial spotting round, the one, single round that comes in 30 seconds before the main barrage. Hit dead center of my one-and-only tank (a Tiger), and blew it all to heck. Never knew what hit 'em.
  19. DISCLAIMER: This post contains no real-world data, nor am I claiming that in-game performance in any way relates to reality. So then: After reading this thread, watching the movie, and skimming a goodly part of the "Tiger" thread, I became curious as to how the Ju87G performed in the game. Since I rarely (verging on never) use AC, it would be a bit of a learning experience por moi. I set up a little CMBB scenario with a vet Stuka G, and two platoons of T34-43's. Imagine my suprise when the Stuka acted almost exactly like the one in the film: Made three fairly high-speed passes, (usually from side to side, occasionlly back to front), and fired four rounds each pass (looks like two, but that's only because the visual graphic of the "bullets" merge into one --- the two rounds diverge on ricochets). After 10 run-throughs, most shots (about 75%) resulted in ricochets, with a few misses, a couple of mobility kills, and only one actual tank destroyed. If anything, I'd say accuracy seems rather high --- but considering it rarely has an effect, overall I'd rate it's real-world grog-factor as acceptable.
  20. Yes, I seem to recall several debates on that particular subject back on the ol' CMBO board. Loverly work --- as always!
