1. So you're saying there's a bug then. Either that or BTS's armor modeling is all screwed up? I guess there is no way this could ever happen?
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by Juardis: Crawling is moving from one place to another while keeping your ass low But you knew that already. Seriously, crawling is just moving with maximum protection. Sneaking is what you order when you wish to remain unseen. Warning. Use sneak at your own risk. Unless it's been tweaked in the beta, sneaking will cause your units to move within meters of an enemy unit (if the terrain is right) without them returning fire.

Ugh. I mean, yeah, I know crawling means being on your stomach and crawling...but I figured it was "sneakier" than "sneaking". I may have gotten suckered in by the graphics which show guys down on the ground crawling as opposed to guys "sneaking" who look like they're out for a walk in the woods. Pisses me off. That stupid 400+ meter engagement then brought on the wrath of some 105 arty that messed me up. Worse, the whole concealment was blow. I still say the guys should not have popped up to take a stupid shot like that.
 3. Ok...can someone explain this?? During a game (PBEM) Im doing I've got some veteran units under C&C of a HQ unit with a +2 stealth rating...all three squads are crawling along through woods. Suddenly, one of the squads stands up, and takes shots at a fleeing enemy unit 400+ meters away. Obviously they have zero impact at this range except to draw the attention of an enemy tank the wheels around and lands an HE round on top of them. from 500 meters. And another Inf unit that opens up on them. While I realize that "stuff happens", isn't this a bit odd? Veteran units, +2 stealth, crawling so as to be unseen. Should I have been "sneaking" instead?? I mean I figured crawling WAS like sneaking in that units would not engage unless fired upon. Ugh. Very annoying. Input please.
 4.
quote:
Originally posted by Major Tom: Subtitles would be cool. ARE YOU THREATENING ME?!?!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh man. I swear if someone does a Beavis and Butthead sound conversion I'm getting it!!!!!!!!!!!! I could just see a sqaud getting fired at and coming up with that retort!!!!!!! Great stuff!! "I need teepee for my bunghole!!" Oh, and if some South Park could get thrown in there that'd be ok too! "God Dammit you fat fu**!!!" [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-01-2001).]
 5. You get a program that lets you select the frequency and bit rate. Simple as that.
 6.
quote:
Originally posted by Rob/1: why? What is everyones problem! Its like I have done anthing to you.

Why? Haven't figured it out by now? Rob, no one can figure out what the hell you are writing 90% of the time. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-01-2001).]
 7. You need to record the sounds using the same 44,100 and 16 bit format.
 8. Um, Crockett, you can stop posting now. We get it. As to "sniper battles".... Well, it's a bit silly when you think about it. Snipers don't take objectives or defend them. And anyway, there are no snipers in CM. Only "sharp shooters". Big difference.
 9. It's already in the plans. Pretty sure it will be CM3. But I don't think it will cover to 44. I think it was 39-41. A quick search for "CM3" will get your the answer.
 10. First off this isn't reall war. It's a computer game. There's all sorts of things about the game that aren't "real". How about being able to fly around the battle field watching everything and making decisions based on that? Not real. Some things are in the game for gameplay sake.
 11. Air support is added by the scenario designer. I think it should be noted that in WWII front line troops didn't "get on the horn" and "call in" air support. The aircraft that you "saw" was in the area and attacked targets of opportunity. Pretty common occurance in the time frame the CM portrays. "Search and destroy boys!" 12. Other than shore bombardment (and a bit inland) what purpose would they serve today? Don't get me wrong. I've been on the Mo and think that class of ship was awesome. But really...in today's climate, a BB? Other than transporting hundreds of Harpoons or lobing big ass shells at shore targets, I don't see it's purpose. Anyone?
 13. Download the latest Beta patch and READ the "readme.txt" file. It's all there.
 14. The director "Michael Bay" has completed such masterpieces as Armageddon, The Rock and Bad Boys. Wow. What a resume. It's been reported that he wants this to be "Titanic 2". Big love story set around a huge tragedy. Great. Good God people. Stay away from this smelly pile of horse dung. This is not a movie about Pearl Harbor. It's Hollywood at it's worst.
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by karch: Sorry I upset you so much, it wasn't on purpose.scott karch

It was NOT you Karch. It was another person from this board.
 16. Yep, have had this happen to. REALLY PISSED ME OFF. Especially because the person posted on this board how he wanted to play SOOOO badly!! PLEASE SEND ME A SETUP!!! Ok, I did. We did a couple of turns and then never heard back. The guy has the nerve to drop me a note weeks later. "Wanna try TCP/IP?" Pffth. Blow. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 12-29-2000).]
 17. Per BTS in early October, "About a year from now." More accurately, it'll come out when it's done.
 18. I am looking for a good WW2 game and came across this one. The reviews have been good but I want to hear ffrom the gamers. What do you think? You're kidding right? >What are its strengths It's the best squad level WWII game in existence. Period. >and weaknesses? It's become a black hole where all of my spare time goes into. >Is it worth the $45? No, it's worth $90. >Is is stable and playable? The original Beta was more stable and playable than MANY of the games that are being sold today. >Thanks for your in put. Get the demo, play it. You'll be hooked.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by dog6880: no big deal get out find a working tank and fight on. We are americans (well maybe your not)we dont give up and have tea in an empty house during an engagement!

Oh, brilliant commentary there. That'll go far to earn any respect around here. Sheesh. And regardless whether or not "we are Americans" crews did not bail out of one tank and run to another during a battle. Battles are on average 30 minutes in CM. Maybe in the movies they do it, but CM is not trying to simulate Hollywood.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Hiram Sedai: Both on-map mortars and off-map mortars can use a platoon leader or company commander with LOS (Line of Sight) to a target.

Not exactly correct. Off map mortars (and any artillery) requires a Forward Observer. HQ units cannot spot for off map arty. On map mortars can use an HQ unit for spotting if they are in communication with the HQ unit. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 12-28-2000).]
 21. What's funny is that you've decided how relative spotting will be a problem, and yet BTS hasn't even decided how to implement it. Man, can you get anymore negative?
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Mika: You can actually blow up bridges with surface charges. That is not just very practical and only used in situations when you dont have time for anything else MS.

My comments were in relation to CM. Engineers in the game don't carry man portable tactical nukes or anything with anywhere near enough power to level a bridge by simply throwing the charge on the deck. They've got satchel charges and that's what I was referring to. Obviously if you have enough explosives you can pretty much blow up anything.
 23. To quote Steve earlier this year. PTO is not currently on our list. If it were, it would be about 4 years out. It absolutely will not come before any of the other three games currently planned.
 24. Using that command to get to the house basically means - "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead, get to that house at all costs and don't stop for any reason." You also can't spot the enemy for squat so expect them to get blasted when they run into the house. Your engineers cannot blow houses or bridges. Blowing bridges is not as simple as hurling a satchel charge at it. Have ya watched engineers blow bridges on TV? You need to cut the structural supports. Typically done using shaped charges. I know it seems obvious, but a bridge is not a King Tiger. It has no moving parts, fuel, or other parts that are easily damaged and catch fire. Put a satchel charge on top of the engine bay of a Tiger and it has a great chance to do serious damage to it. On the other hand a charge laying on a bridge road won't do squat.
