1. It's actually not too bad. But nothing near the traffic as here. Mostly newbies asking questions. GB stayed away, then came back with a new fake email address and started another rant. No one has any respect for him so Im not sure why he continues unless he's just a masochistic troll. There's about 10-15 messages per day, Fionn is over there too.
 2. I would agree with you if this wasn't the only thing he ever talks about. But it is. It's complain complain complain about graphics. He has no clue what he's going on about as others have pointed out time and time again and yet he just keeps it up.
 3. I sure wish you'd just dry up and blow away. Your tired blabbering about graphics serves no constructive purpose. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-27-2001).]
 4. dupe posting. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-27-2001).]
 5. Thanks John. It appears you are right on the money. I had never experienced a problem with this before till I had the foxholes. It seems that trying to get the guys into the same foxhole as the other team is just "too close". Goofy logic I think since a whole squad can fit in there anyway. Oh well. I did some experiments on my own and so long as I moved the B squad close enough but NOT in the foxhole, they did rejoin. I'll try this again when the next PBEM turn comes. Thanks.
 6. I am fully aware of the distances required and the read me. Thanks ever so much.
 7. Im wondering if the problem is that I am trying to stick them together while one team is in the foxhole?
 8. I have two teams that just WILL NOT get back to form a squad again. Three turns I have been trying and still no go. Team 3-a is in a foxhole, Im trying to move 3-b into the same hole. (Did it before with another team already) I have ordered 3b to the hole and everytime they get there they turn around and march back out as though there is no room. Ugh. I have tried moving them to the edge of the foxhole, and moving 3A to the opposite edge. Still, they turn around and leave. I had no problems with another team in a virtually a identical situation join another team in a foxhole. I'm about to pull my hair out on this one...and the enemy is getting near!!! What the hell am I doing wrong??? [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-26-2001).]
 9. This AAR also illustrates how inept Volksgrenadier veterans (probably veterans from WW1) can be.Yes, they were on my side... Always interested in your AAR's Henry, yes! I am wondering though about the comment above. How would veteran VG's be "inept" compared to any other veteran unit? Lack of firepower? If I recall right, CM does not give specific troops any better or worse fighting capabilities based on "who they are". Just wondering.
 10. Pretty sure Steve mentioned they had wanted to do this but it did not make it in, and it will not for CM. But should for CM2. Yeah, you can find the answer in a search.
 11. BTS needs to add these commands to the command interface. They need to eh? I see. Save your breath 'cause there won't be any more changes to CM1. We're on the road to Moscow now. [This message has been edited by Phoenix (edited 01-23-2001).]
 12. Oh, is it possible to re-crew an abandoned tank or pill box that's undamaged? Nope. Do the engineers fix damaged things as well as clearing mines? Nope.
 13. I just picked up Encyclopedia of German Tanks of World War Two Cost all of $15 and it's BIG! Got it at Amazon. It's basic info, nothing fancy. Just basic nuts and bolts. For the price you can't beat it. There are several threads on this topic already. Do a search in the subject field with the keywords - "books tanks" Cheers!
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Major Belles: Here seems to be a good place to post a plea for a Maus. Anyone else interested?

Um...weren't there only like 2 prototypes ever made? The thing never saw action if I recall.
 15. Oddly enough I just saw this same vehicle in an issue of Scale Modeler today. It was a mine clearer. Dunno if it ever was used.
 16.
quote:
Originally posted by philwil: I'd love a Grand Campaign next time around.

Do a search on "campaign" (in the subject field) and you'll get all the answers from BTS about this you could want. As GP said, they've indicated that it's not something they will do.
 17. Hehe. I get to thinking sometimes that people think roadblocks are made by a couple of guys rolling some grocery store carts into the street and turning them over. "There, that'll stop em!!" Come on. As Mika pointed out, real roadBLOCKS are big massive HARD to remove structures. And quite possibly booby trapped. Not something that a bunch of engineers run over to and disassemble in the middle of combat. Now if BTS had made different levels of roadblocks (simple, complex etc) then maybe the smaller ones could be removed in game time. But they didn't. Personally I think engineers clear minefields WAY to fast in the game, and the idea that they could clear a road block in a few minutes in the front lines is pretty funny.
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by jasoncawley@ameritech.net: I have no idea what BTS intended, being neither their employee nor clairvoyant.

No clairvoyance needed. The words right from Steve - Booby traps were used in some circumstances, but generally were not part of frontline combat. The purpose of a booby trap was to cause problems for units that would otherwise not have problems.
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by jasoncawley@ameritech.net: Certainly, no CM player should have the sense, as he runs a squad toward a building, "whew, at least there won't be any mines in there".

Oh really? Hmm..Id be curious how many times people have played games here and EVER found that their guys ran into mines IN a house. I bet you the AI never places mines close enough to a house that they end up "inside" them. You do realize that you can't technically place them *inside* a building. But if you stick them close enough to a building they end up "running over" into the floor.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: I don't see a problem with this. So the Engineers just covered a few mines i nthe living room with an oriental rug and a chair instead of twigs and brush. Madmatt

Ok. If BTS says it's cool Im down with that!! I just thought it odd that actual AP mines would have any hope of being used in a house with any effectiveness.
 21. If the file contains BMPs just unzip them or move them into the BMP folder and let the new files overwrite the old ones. That's all there's too it.
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by jasoncawley@ameritech.net: Mines inside of houses are called booby traps. They were quite common in WW II. A tripwire across a window-frame connected to a grenade, a toe-popper placed under a bit of rubble, etc.

Well, that's all fine and dandy, but BTS said they were not going to model booby traps for CM. So are you saying then that this is a "proper" way to simulate booby traps? My bet is it's not what BTS intended.
 23. By accident, I discovered (maybe to no ones surprise) that if you place mines close enough to a house...they actually have effect on units entering that house. I even tested it out in a quick test scenario and the unit that ran in the house took 2 casualties. Just thought Id mention it...seems a bit odd.
