  1. I am shortly upgrading to a Geforce 4200 with the 41.09 drivers. Could anyone confirm for me if the FSAA/menu -loss problem still exists with these and also,if so ,does the minimise/maximise workaround still solve this. Many thanks
  2. I am no student of gunnery performance and armour penetration but am puzzled by the performance figures provided in the in-game "Info" for the Marder IIIs. eg. MARDER III(Early) Gun-76.2mm L51 AP Penetration at 100m 0deg. ==129mm MARDER III Gun--75mm L46 AP Penetration at 100m 0 deg. == 141mm And a similar differential applies at all other distances etc Is the "Gun" description erroneously reversed in these 2 models ? or am I missing some other explanation here.
  3. I am in the near future going to upgrade from a P3 933mhz with V5 and SBlive (Win 98) to a P4 2.4 GHz (Win XP) and would very much appreciate (with CMBB and other military sims in mind) some advice re best and most reliable and problem free N'vidia card (or similar) and Soundblaster card to team with the new processor. Many thanks for thoughts and advice based on experience with these choices.
  4. Yup-----now I understand. I was playing this particular QB v Probe with the defense option "Force Type" as "unrestricted" which then also clearly allows you to select any of the "fortification" purchases as well even against a probe. Where the "unrestricted" Force option is not used ,but a "force type" is specified then the fortification purchases are not available. At last I have removed one confusion from my poor addled brain . Thanks to all who chipped in with contributions
  5. I have been puzzled as to why ,when defending in a QB against a probe, you may not start with any foxholes but may construct trenches or a whole trench system---which provides better and larger scale defense and safer movement opportunities than the simple foxholes. Is there any specific reason for this differentiation. Thanks
  6. I am upgrading from a 56kmodem to "on all the time" broadband and am wondering whether ,with the computer permanently connected to the internet, this poses any possible adverse effects re game play performance etc with CMBB etc. Grateful for any clarification on this Thanks
  7. Subvet-----"I love the way you get penetrations without instant kills.." I would expect your wife/partner/girlfriend would feel equally pleased and relieved..... Sorry for temporary non military-focussed thinking.
  8. I fully appreciate that BTS now appears to be trying to find a way to reduce the sense of disappointment felt by European purchasers re the manual issue. But my major concern and disappointment is why a) this important difference was not made clear to European customers before they decided on their purchase route why this "plan" to assuage the great disappointment by European customers was not launched some time ago.Surely the intense disappointment could have been forecast. Unfortunately at its worst and most cynical interpretation it could be seen as intentional "non revelation" by CDV. Adding this serious concern to the lack of CDV info for its non-German customers re costs and release dates, I sincerely hope that BTS rethinks its policy re the Euro-market before any future release.
  9. I should like to return to the point made above by "Supersula"------ If the major purpose of the CDV distribution in Europe is to expand the availability and purchase of CM in Europe, why is the game not also being passed to a software distributor and stores provider in the U.S. Sure ,online sales may be higher in the U.S than in Europe but they would surely be higher still with widespread store penetration and promotion there too. Im just a little puzzled by this .
  10. I have experienced the second occasion of a disappearing tank in the tutorial. The first occurred when playing the Russians when my second tank advancing behind me near the map edge , seemed to be hit and when I then looked ,it had totally disappeared. On this occasion I assumed it had retreated off the map surface.(see earlier post in thread) To-day , playing the German side for some variety, I fired my AT gun at one of the advancing Russian tanks and saw a "gun damaged" message appear. So I then shifted my attention to the other tank but when I returned my view to the area of the first "damaged" tank, it was nowhere to be seen and never reappeared. This time it had not been very near any map edge. I cannot find any "game" explanation for this swift disappearance . If this has happened to anyone else in the tutorial or if anyone has a convincing hypothesis I should like to hear it. NB No drink had passed my lips.
  11. A rather similar thing happened to me in the Tutorial .I was using both my Russian tanks to fire at an AT gun. I was focussing closely on one of the tanks when i thought i heard the sound of a hit off behind me. And when I looked the second tank had totally disappeared. It had been very close to the side map edge and I wondered whether it had swiftly retreated off the map and disappeared from the battle------in fact can units when hurt, independently retreat off map and be lost?? Anyone enlighten me on this please?
  12. Many thanks "Abbott"-----------Im putting you forward for "Pope"
  13. Ive seen this prob mentioned before and I too, now that I have at last got the demo, find I cannot open the "Readme" I wonder if anyone who has successfully opened this, might please e-mail me a copy at pcelt@btinternet.com Eternal gratitude
  14. Thanks again for your very detailed and precise info and advice----I should have included in my initial mail that I am using Win 98SE with my V5 and that explains the few differences in my experiences. I must say I am tempted to delay any upgrading to XP and n'videa .This seems to pose more difficulties with CM currently than my WIn98/V5 setup with 933Mh and 256Mb. Meanwhile gratitude again from a " stickytape and gum "techno-----People like me desperately need people like you on the end of a forum help mail.
  15. Schrullenhaft -------many thanks for very helpful response. Identify in CMBO with 1) and 4) but may I ask re "z buffers"---which text is corrupted. I have left this enabled with CMBO and am not sure what fault you attribute to this factor. Also I am not sure re the line colours---with CMBO I seem to get a variety of colours re "types of movement" ordered and "ownership of fire " etc----which are the incorrectly coloured ones. Sorry to plague you but would like to clarify the problems precisely. NB Does the FSAA setting influence any of these problems----I have used both x4 and x2 and not noticed any particular problems. Havnt been able to get the new demo yet--still trying to find a friendly ADSL saint near Brighton England. Sincere thanks again for all your help.
  16. Is anyone using the new CMBB demo with a Voodoo 5 card------and is it effective or not. Many thanks
  17. Am I right that cdv will also be offering the demo on Sept1 ? If so at what time will this be made available-----bearing in mind that Germany is 6 or so hours ahead of East U.S time Any clarification on this........please
  18. To Yankeedog and Be Wary Very many thanks to you both for the comprehensive and helpful replies. You have helped me clarify my thinking and removed many fears. One final query-- I suppose the relevance of Direct X and the need to upgrade this occasionally is still relevant??? Cheers
  19. I love CMBO and am really looking forward to CMBB My problem is that , for various reasons, I shall need to convert for the first time to using a "laptop"-- a type of computer with which I am totally unfamiliar. Could I please ask (before I commit to a purchase) the following questions (with apologies if they are naive) 1. Will CMBB be playable successfully on a laptop? 2)If feasible , what would be the ideal specs to try and achieve with a new laptop re processor Windows OS Memory Sound Card Graphics Card Other features Specific Make I should be extremely grateful for any advice which will clarify what I need to get to make CMBB successfully playable on a laptop. NB With such a set up would CMBO still be playable on such a system. Many thanks for any help and advice
  20. Is there any way of getting a convoy of tanks /trucks etc to move along a meandering road ,keeping in convoy ---except by moving each vehicle in turn individually---a very painstaking task. Thanks for any ideas ....
  21. One of these excellent packs for me pleased.hawken@cockup.freeserve.co.uk Many thanks

  23. Could you please mail me a copy d.hawken@cockup.freeserve.co.uk Many thanks Please ignore this------short term memory transplant needed [This message has been edited by pcelt (edited 03-08-2001).]
