  1. I have same spec and sound card and no prob. Are you sure you have your ambient sound on .This is the first sound during setup-----toggleyour shift S till you see "All Sounds"including "ambient" on
  2. I have only had the game for a few days and have found the "Quick Battles" an excellent source of practice and enjoyment. I should just like to mention a very few aspects I should like to amend: 1)For "Mechanized Battles" I think the maps should be longer. Because of the short distances you need to travel it nearly always seems more advantageous not to bother with all the loading and unloading and the expense of buying many carriers, but easier to use walking infantry and use the vehicle points not for carriers but for specialist vehicles like Wasps and MMG carriers etc .I think the distance involved should make the player have to invest in infantry carriers to fulfill the task. 2) The current "setup" area seems too large and always wastes a large proportion of the playable map. 3)I think the "Force Type" should have a "random" option so you do not always know in advance the type of force you are to meet. This is for me a very important change to make the "Quick Battle" much more exciting and unpredictable and to make it even more challenging and immersive. Nevertheless an awesome game and experience-------thanks to all involved.
  3. I have been using the 1.02 demo and have noticed 1 particular change I would prefer not to see in the next full game patch. The 1.02 patch "group movement" display only shows the path of the "key unit" whereas the current game version shows the paths of all the units in the group.I find this current game version display much more helpful in ensuring an accurate route and destination position for all the group units. With the 1.02 demo system there has to be a lot of rough estimation re the exact finishing position of all the units. This can be very problematic if you want to ensure cover and concealment etc or a good los for all the group units at the end of their move.
  4. I have only just got the game and just had a look at one or two "Quick Battles with British.On both occasions the "Firefly" info panel referred to its main gun as the 76mm. I assumed the Firefly was equipped with the 17pounder. Can any more informed forum member please clarify this for me. Thanks

  7. So Im actually criticising an enhancement----and I had grown to quite like those friendly little "paths" So i must now learn to appreciate the dense unbroken undergrowth. Ill start immediately. Meanwhile thanks for the tiling lesson.
  8. In both of the earlier demos there are narrow grass paths through the thick woods as in CE. In 1.02d Demo the undergrowth in the woods is unbroken by any crisscrossing grass paths. I like it much less and hope it is a gliche which will be patched before it appears in the full game. i should like comments from any others using 1.02d Demo. Thanks
  9. I have d/l this to play the 2 scenarios with it. The graphics enhancements re explosions etc are impressive -----but I noticed in CE that whereas the earlier demos showed various pathways through the woods this version no longer does. May i ask any other users of this version to let me know their experience .Im not sure whether it is an intentional change or a gliche. I personally much preferred the earlier versions with the network of paths through the woods

  12. News reports from Afghanistan today reported the arrival by air of 73 copies of a game called "Combat Mission". On close inspection the Afghan customs noted place names like Toronto and Montreal and they concluded that the U.S.Postal Service had not unreasonably mistaken the delivery destination of Canada for the more famous and familiar city of Kanadahar in Afghanistan. However the Afghan customs promise any disappointed Canadians awaiting this game that, as soon as they receive their next consignment of string from Kabul, they are going to repack them and despatch these on the first available mule train heading West .

  14. Does anyone know how the distribution to Europe is handled. Are all the packages transported by air to 1 major airport in Europe and then subsequently distributed by other airlines to each country or are they transported by different airlines from the U.S.to each Country or is some other system used. Any informed opinion please. It all helps to pass the hours.

  17. I have a voodoo3/3000 and had the blocky smoke until I upgraded my Voodoo driver to 1.04.00. This totally remedied the problem.
  18. Voodoo 3 driver 1.04.00 is what you require-available at 3dfx site. N.B. You do need DX7 to use these drivers Good luck
  19. You guys have all got second class ideas-----I'd highly recommend my tactic. I've taken very early retirement,a golden (or at least copper handshake),a free internet provider and a pension large enough to just keep upgrading my computer . Who really needs food and clothes-----just the necessities of life-- a working computer and non-stop CM. Try it men,you'll never regret it. Moreover one of these years I also aim to win a damned scenario.
  20. Re the effectiveness of 'schrek teams my experience on the receiving end has been the key influence of the team's experience level. Green and conscript teams need to be kept in good cover and to use ambush tactics. They are very easily panicked if asked to "charge forward " to an attack position or assault a tank. I have seen regular and veteran teams, on the other hand, run forward to attack a tank and in the face of fire ,effect a Sherman kill.
  21. Re the original graphic image------could you notjust recopy it to your hard drive from the CD file if you wish to revert to it.
  22. May i ask one supplementary question re these "Quick Battles". Can you also play these V the AI----and if so, does the AI select its own units based on the points allocation. Thanks for any clarification
  23. If you are using Voodoo3 the answer is to use the latest driver with DX7------this cures the problem. If you are using V2, I think you have to use the other smoke option or put up with the blocky translucent smoke.
  24. Steve-- I noticed a comment by you earlier that the "sneak" command needed some code changes in Patch 1.0 or 1.01. Since many of us---especially those in distant regions will need to continue to fight for some time yet with the demos and the current "sneak" code , could you please briefly indicate how we should just use the present "sneak" command so as not to experience the frustrations so gut-wrenchingly described by a number of members in various posts recently.
