  1. A copy for me too, please d.hawken@cockup.freeserve.co.uk Many thanks.
  2. Anyone with any semblance of rational ability---------thats who---- and of course women generally...... Pcelt
  3. Could anyone please clarify for me ----if I were reinstalling CM using the original CD, which patches/upgrades would be necessary to bring it to a full 1.12 the likely final version. Many thanks
  4. I have recently converted to one of the much less brightly coloured grass mods . I very much like the appearance of this surface but am struck by what is now a very marked contrast with the non-battlefield surround area which is still very bright green. Has anyone addressed this with a mod which provides a comparable reduction in the brightness of the surrounding area . This is certainly not a crucial concern but I think such a change would give a more integrated overall appearance to the game . Thanks for any info or comment
  5. Apologies if I've missed the ref-----but are the grey "heer" uniforms available for download anywhere ? Thanks for any refs.
  6. I have just upgraded to Voodoo5500 (P3/933 256 Mb and DX8 with Win 98 Just one minor gliche----when clicking options on the initial interfaces my mouse sometimes leaves odd traces and little bits ofjunk on screen until a new click is made. There is no problem with the game itself and this is avery minor iritant-----but if anyone can shed any light on this or any cure I'll be very gateful. Thanks
  7. I wonder if anyone is anyone using CM with V5500 and DX8 (Win98SE) and if so whether there are any problems. Many thanks for any info or feedback
  8. I am in the process of upgrading and would like to know whether the V3 problem with graphics degradation in cluttered and higher res games also occurs with Voodoo 5 boards as well--- or is this problem limited to the Voodoo3. Thanks
  9. May I enquire whether any users of Voodoo 5 have expierenced any similar graphics degradation problems ---or is it purely a V3 problem Thanks
  10. May i enquire whether anyone using a voodoo5 gets any similar graphics degradation or is it limited to V3 cards. Thanks
  11. Just a thank-you to all three for the many helpful pointers and advice Cheers Dave
  12. I am a tech- ignoramus and would much appreciate some knowledgable advice re new computer set up for CM and current and future military wargames and sims. I have my sights set on something like a P3 800Mhz and would like specific advice re the following: 1)DVD or CDROM for performance and reliability with games. 2) V4 or V5 or geForce2 GTS 32Mb or 64Mb In particular is the 64Mb worth the extra outlay at this time and for these type of games. 3) SB 64v Sound Card or SB Live Value 512 voice Sound Card. Centrally in each of these 3 areas which choice is best for combo of performance and reliability for the sort of games I have indicated. Many thanks for any contributions to help focus my various choices.
  13. David------congratulations on 1.01-----these are a huge improvement over previous sets and versions. My single reservation is that though the eyes are now far better they all appear to have a very light patch under the eyes. The rest of the facial shading and the backs of the heads look excellent. Is there any minor increase in shading that could be applied just beneath the eyes. Thanks for your contributions to improving the games visual appeal
  14. Wild Bill, Re your preference indicated at the end of your contribution above , are you referring to battles or to women?
  15. I am also thinking of upgrading from V3 to either V5 or Geforce 2. Are there any considerations re backward compatibility with games like European Air War etc. Thanks for any insights
  16. No. Im not requesting photorealism or any major code changes but just that the urban centres are a little more convincing than currently as European centres with a 1940's vintage. These were much less uniform and regular , much more cluttered and diverse. Various designers (Arnhem Bridge, Trojan Horse etc) have shown that imaginative game design can give the overall city area a better and more authentic feel as a European urban centre. But we are still stuck with very uniform buildings in appearance and height etc. This makes city and town centres very repetitive and unconvincing. What some others and I are respectfully requesting is that some graphic artists who are currently producing excellent new vehicle and grass textures etc consider the possibility of devoting some time to providing a greater variety of city building facades (eg shop, factory office station etc) , different building heights ,colours and any other practical variations so that urban centres can have a more authentic, convincing and immersive quality as historic European cities. Currently the rural, village and small town environments are excellent and make gameplay convincing and immersive----but I think the city centre environment currently lacks authenticity and gameplay immersiveness. If any graphic artists can contribute some diversity on the lines suggested above I think the game would benefit and many of us would be very grateful. Thanks
  17. May I place this observation in the context of unqualified praise of an excellent game---in fact my all time favourite---- and I have nothing but admiration for the brilliant programming and sound and visual feel of the game......except in my view in one aspect. I do not feel that the large town/city type graphics have the right visual "feel" of European urban environments and particularly of the 1940,s . The urban tiles seem to be based mainly on a grid-type and regular block formation with buildings well spread when European urban environments are usually much more irregular, including many streets with curves and bends, and a townscape much more cramped and diverse in nature. The result,in my view, is that urban fighting does not have the same authentic feel or in some aspects the appropriate tactical needs which a 1940's European urban landscape would often dictate I must add that I have no skills as a game programmer and it may well be that using different, more cluttered and less regular urban tiles would not be feasible or practical. But my view is that ,if such an alternative urban tile set were feasible it would add greatly to the in-game feel of authenticity and to the reality of the tactical demands in European urban fighting. Please accept this critique in the spirit in which it is offered . I acknowledge that in so many ways this is a superlative game--the very best there is----I just feel less convinced visually and tactically by the fully urban environment and feel that, if feasible, some graphical alternatives here would further enhance the feel of authenticity and immersion in those types of battles.
  18. Theres no reason why you cant rename 1.03 exe "old combat mission exe " and install temporarily both exe's in the game folder.Make a named shortcut ikon on the desk top to each and install 1.03 for all unfinished pbems and 1.04 for everything else [This message has been edited by pcelt (edited 08-20-2000).]
  19. David ,Im afraid (to quote an earlier discussion ) " your blinkered megalomania" is beginning to peep out again. 1) I was not aware you were an expert on all the different isp's and their relative reliability and speed . I have always found my free server to be totally reliable and fast enough for my needs. 2) The guy who initiated this thread was requesting info re free or v. cheap isp's and the rest of us were trying to help. Expense may be of no consequence to you but clearly to many of us ordinary mortals it is a very significant factor. As far as I can see, your contribution had no real relevance---either in terms of the question posed or in terms of broad expertise re the topic. I apologise for being so blunt but I get tired of your "let me put you right" contributions.
  20. Being currently in the middle of a pbem using 1.03 ----would there be any problems caused by switching between 1.04 for normal A.I. play of new scenarios and temporarily reinstalling V 1.03 for each turn of the current pbem-------certainly a pain--- but would it work technically without causing tech mayhem within the programme
  21. I too have been using Freeserve for the totally free internet access. Service in S. England is fine and I understand they are developing their capacity and claim that services all over Britain will be fine by mid September. We tend to use about £10 worth of national telephone calls per month anyway, so the 24hr 7days a week internet service is genuinely totally free.
  22. David Aitken wrote----"I am not some blinkered megalomaniac" I have to agree here with you David . I dont see any clear evidence that you are "blinkered".
  23. Suggest you revert to V3 Driver 1.04------no problems with smoke or explosions.
  24. There is clearly much confusion here-----I cant even find a clear ref to this particular aspect on p 105 of my manual(1.0) or anywhere else. PLEASE would someone who knows clarify this procedure. My opponent and I seem currently unable to get our mutual wish for a cease fire acknowledged by the programme and the concluding screens displayed. It is very frustrating. Thanks Thanks
  25. My opponent and I have both privately agreed a ceasefire to terminate a very even battle result with both forces fairly exhausted and v.low on ammo. He requested it in his last game turn . I requested it in my turn (ALT C). But the game has not acknowledged any ceasefire or offered the "finish screen"------how exactly should this procedure work? Thanks for any help
