  1. The fact that some of these scenarios did not make it in no way reflects on their quality. I want you to know that. I personally saw everyone of these that did not "make it." They were all tested and approved. Just some final choices had to be made, and I am sure Steve and Charles picked what they felt best suited their needs and those of the game. But these scenarios are finding a home. I have a few on Madmatt's site, another with Manx and now one at Lorak's house. The Raider site too (Boots N' Tracks) is where I'll be putting up mine and some of the others done by Beta Testers. I've seen scenarios by Moon, Los, and a few others scattered about of late. So watch for the same author's names you see in the scenarios/operations in the game. You'll be finding them on a number of these sites. And they are all good scenarios. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  2. I am glad you are enjoying it, Mad Dog! It makes the effort worthwhile. It is still one of my favorites. I had a similar situation or two in and around the town. It does get tight on those streets at night ! You've used some pretty good strategy for the Germans, but be ready. There are still a few surprises to come. Yeah, I love this game. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  3. Is this the Warhorse I know and work with? If so, you need to write me about this ASAP. Might have some good news for you... ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  4. Does that qualify as hoarding? Actually you have a steering wheel, four tires and a seat. You just need the car, SD. Keep on screamin' they are bound to hear you. Seriously, I hope it arrives soon for you. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  5. George Nafizger, OOB guru, has just published a new series, all about US forces in WW2. I think it is three or four volumes. It compliments his German,Italian, Russian, French, Bulgarian, Rumanian and other series. You do have to pay for them, though ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com [This message has been edited by Wild Bill Wilder (edited 06-28-2000).]
  6. You gotta love those explosions too! I watched an FB take out a Tiger in the town of Ramelle as it was about to pounce on poor Captain Miller's small remaining force as it crossed the bridge to the Alamo. Wham! Right on time! Shades of SPR! ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  7. I see the love shared on this forum is still here ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  8. Very nice screen shots of the invasion. Intersting indeed. I recently did one on the battle of Ramelle. Its quite a fight. In fact I sent it to Manx' web site for posting there. I don't know if he will use it or not. http://www.combatmissions.co.uk/ If you wish a copy, I'll send it to you. Its a very fun scenario with all of the ingredients, Tigers, Captain Miller, Sgt Horvath and the rest of the crew. Quite a fight in the city. Its interesting to see how long you can hold the city before retreating to the Alamo. I have it should anyone be interested. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  9. Nice site, Lorak! Beautifully done. Love the Combat Music! How about if I send you my scenario on the two-part episode of Combat,"Hills are for Heroes," the TV series to put on your site? Its a very simple, easy to play one. It just recreates what happened in the program. It is kind of fun to play. A good intro scenario for those beginning with CM. Interested? Drop me a line and I'll get it off to you. I want to support your site. It is a good one. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com

  11. I've responded to Jeff's comment in the other thread, but I want to say something to Jamey and Buckeye. Very incisive comments. You are absolutely correct. A good scenario has a "feel" (your words, Jamey) to it. It does go beyond a science. There is a sort of spirit that seems to be a combination of the historical moment with the spirit of the designer that results in a scenario with some sort of life to it. There are scenarios that are shooting matches, nothing more. There are others that are an exercise in frustration. There are some that should never have seen the light of day (I've done some of all of them ) But the scenario that grabs you, the one that transports you into the realm of history, that gives you a feel for the battle, win or lose, that is the scenario you enjoy, that you feel good about, win or lose. Jeff had the gods of war smiling upon him in Wiltz. That is great. But frowning or smiling, if the gods of war deem to come down and touch a scenario with that "feeling," then it is a good experience. And that, my friends, is why we are gamers. We want that good feeling when we play. Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  12. My first impression upon reading of your battle Jeff was that the 57mm won that war for you. That is not a frequent occurence in this scenario and the team should up for medals! I playtested it six times and never had that kind of good fortune Don't be disappointed! Enjoy your victory. The next one you play may not have lady luck on your side Just as in real war, these things do happen. I'll never forget reading of an M-8 that killed a Panther with it's 37mm pop-gun. Round hit the road in front of it (missed the Panther!), ricocheted upward throught the bottom armor plating and forced the Panther crew to evacuate. The possibilities of war are endless and a further tribute to the game itself. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  13. War is Hell! You just had a strong dose of it Pathfinder1! Chambois is known for its bloodiness both in history and on the electronic battlefront. You played well. You can't avoid large losses in this one. At least that was my experience, and I kind of knew what to expect WB ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  14. Thanks guys! I do appreciate it. I'm glad the battle brought you a challenge without being frustrating. Nothing like winning. Dragon, you did extremely well, better than I or the testers Remind me never to challenge you to any PBEM type battle I've suffered enough in this life. Thanks LC! I've been delivered more than once and can attest to that fact. The Wild Kunel ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  15. My pleasure, buddy. There are so many on there, which is another nice feature of the game, that you can get lost in the maze... ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  16. Donan, it should be on the CM CD. Look in your scenario list. If not, let me know, my E-Mail address is billw@thegamers.net and I'll pop it over to you. WB ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  17. Thanks for the good report, Bill. Your strategy was sound. Did you lose any armor? If not, you did very well. The ground is frozen and wet and creates problems for any tanks. One of mine got stuck but was able to get free (Whew!). The highlight of the battle for me was one bazooka team, tucked away in the railway station. That bad boy (can't remember his name) took out a Panther and a menacing halftrack. Had him up for DSC The other was a beautiful 3 shot simultaneous fire between a Sheman, a Panther and a half-track. The Panther fired on the town, I fired on the Panther and the half track fired on me. I saved that screen shot. Whim, Wham, Whoom! I got the Panther and the Halftrack wounded one of my crew (internal flaking). That mean SOB was the one taken out a moment later by my bazooka team. It is fun. Thanks again, Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  18. Hey Maximus! What is a man to do? He is to throw his hands in the air if frustration and curse the gods of war that have so capriciously made things difficult in going to battle. Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  19. Thanks Panzer. Enjoy. When you get CM, check it out when you can. There are plenty of battles on that CD so it may take awhile. I hope you get yours soon (CD I mean )....WB ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  20. Thanks Jager! These kids are pretty tough nowadays! Give him my congratulations. Glad you two are playing together. You're a good dad...Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  21. I don't think this is a problem of the designers, Maximus, but of the folks who run the sites and provide the links. Perhaps they'll read this and get the message. Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  22. Thanks, Keith. These are some very good comments. In reality, the Tigers could be included in the last battle. The big problem with operations is setting up zones. After the first battle, I have no control really where the Germans (or the Brits) are going to be set up. In fact after the first battle, the computer will only set up German forces south of the River. Probably one of those Stugs should have been a Tiger as you suggest. But thanks for the comments. That is how we are able to make them better. Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  23. Sounds like your opponent overcame his initial confusion, Mike You have a valid point. It's kind of a toss up between the two. Call it faulty military intelligence. As the general said in "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Now that is a contradiction in terms!" Thank you for the comments. I'm glad you are enjoying it. It was fun to do. I have a Tanks only version of that one thatis a quick play. It will be used as a Tournament scenario at the Gamers League at TGN. In fact T-Mo and I have contributed 3 scenarios for that tourney. If you are interested, write Joe Osborne. He'll get you in the arena. joeo@thegamers.net Wild Bill ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  24. Well, well, at last, I cornered Madmatt, sedated him and then got some coherent statements from him. This staunch defender of Combat Mission and one of its strongest protagonists has consented to answer some questions. You'll find it at Boots and Tracks, our Combat Mission section on the Raider Page. Oh, while you're there, grab a rather unique hypothetical scenario based on a map done by Chris Orosz, son of champion CM tester, Tim "Rune" Orosz. Nice map, interesting scenario, "Keep Nimtz Alive" You'll find us here with the interview and the scenario. http://wbr.thegamers.net/boots_tracks/index.asp So pay us a visit and hear the sage words of the mighty Madmatt! ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester/Designer Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com [This message has been edited by Wild Bill Wilder (edited 06-26-2000).]
