  1. Looking forward to another excellent presentation/preview Bil. I have to say though that I find the objective placement for a ME rather odd on this map. I read an earlier post where you said there are objectives on the allied side, but I still am only seeing objectives on your side besides the one on the edge. At any rate I am sure it will be an entertaining fight to read with the morning cup of joe.

I get the feeling from Bil that his interest in objectives amounts to "Oh look, there is a town over there that I'm supposed to take... Maby I should go there once i kill all these germans."

  2. I was thinking about making a complete overhaul of my soundmod for the release of Market Garden.

Basically going through all the sounds I currently have stored away and seeing if I could improve upon the mod a bit more, maby switch a few sounds around.

Possibly add more if the mod includes new sounds.

So... Should I make a version 3.0 of my mod or should i leave it the way it is (and possibly just add new sounds if there are any in MG)?

  3. Nice one jack. I didnt know you could destroy an stummel with a cal.50!

I lost an entire battle in CMBO because my opponent bought 2 jeeps with 50's and drove behind my 3 Pz IV's and killed them :(

It is pretty decent at shooting armour that has weakspots.

Also, i have a few pictures to show :D

First: To balance out the overabundance of Tigers lately:

Second: I think my men might not be taking this war too seriously...

Using lower quality graphics helps the performance of the game. This improvement is especially noticeable when you are playing a game that taxes your machine. I mentioned it because I had not been taking advantage of doing that. Monty's Butcher was very difficult to actually play because on my machine it would studder and stop and take holidays drop to the desktop and back. Then I dropped my graphics quality two steps and it runs very smoothly. True, it does not look as good but I can issue orders again without spending 60% of my time waiting for the machine to return control back to me.

Yes, I need a new machine. I almost had the head accountant (wife) on board but at the last minute she pulled the plug:D

In your case dropping the graphics quality would mean you can get the same performance while using a larger area of city than you can with higher quality grphics and the game will play just as smoothly.

Well yeah. But I commented on that earlier, so i thought he must have meant something else.

Like I said, i prefer smaller battles. And not just because of FPS issues.

  5. Hmm... never seen an enemy surrender and then attack again.

I've played this battle 2-3 times now and I have always used the spotters 105mm to take out the stuart and sherman in the town.

With great success I might add.

I've never made it to this battle with any PzII's intact tho :/

Maby I should stop using them as recon vehicles and start using them as infantry support. Treating them like halftracks might actually keep them alive hehehe

  6. Have you considered dropping the graphics qualities back for larger or more dense maps? I mostly play with 3D Model Quality and 3D Texture Quality set to Better but for large maps (such as the 20 000 point quick battle and Monty's Butchers) I drop them back some times as far as Balanced. Clearly this is a compromise but if it means being able to fight the battles you want it is worth it.

    Considered it? Yes.

    Decided against it? Yes.

I tend to gravitate towards smaller battles anyway since I tend to lose oversight on larger battles (thus forgetting some units, an attack or even an entire front) so i stay with battles that only include about a company of troops or thereabouts.

Small to medium in quickbattles is another way of saying it.

Of course, if it is a vehicle heavy battle, it becomes easier to cope with larger sizes, but I still tend to gravitate to the smaller engagements.

  7. Happy to hear this. Creating a realistically looking town and an urban environment that allows for AT weapons were my main ambitions when making the map.

Very cunning trick there, ian. I´ll make sure to remember it this time (I think I have "used" it accidentally a couple of times, but never thought of exploiting it further).

As Erwin said, he has kindly offed to help me testing a scenario for the Ciembienne map. But when he has finished testing, I am going to need voluteers for a second round of testing. Perhaps one or two of you "urban combat grogs" ;) would be interested?

Wish I could help, but my computer cannot handle urban maps larger than 350x350 meters without slowing down to a snail pace.

Its fine for making quickbattlemaps and testing the AI, but I simply do not play on urban maps that large in general.

  8. I'm curious about the town itself. Was it really that heavily "paved" (well, cobble stones but still)?

I would have expected a bit more grassy areas or gravel alleyways and the likes.

I've tried finding pictures from the town itself around this time, but all I can find are pictures from the battles where everything is chewed up...

  9. Hmmm, curious. Nearly always when I need to place a waypoint precisely, I am in view 3 with the camera directly over the spot pointed vertically downward. Different strokes, I suppose...

    Michael

different ways of getting the same result.

I press 8 and then scroll the mouse button until i get close, you press 3 and angle the camera down with the right mousebutton (i think).

Result is we both plot from a top-down view :D
