  1. The Warrior Valid suggestions! But please ... they belong in the thread here This thread is striving hard to keep focus and should be allowed to do so All the best
  2. Hot dang Hollaman! Your scheme is really coming together! An excellent application of blue on blue. If you are manning that lonely M1919 in the middle of the night and have been told that 2nd Coy is on your left and to watch your right, then if 2nd Coy suddenly pops up to your front right the likelyhood of them being plastered by you has increased dramatically! Sorry to pop up in this thread from time to time wagging my tail as a stupid happy puppy, but the really good suggestions and thier application are far and few even in this here fine community. So I guess I am just excited by all the good stuff Good thinking Hollaman!
  3. Excellent thinking Mr. Tittles! Very intuitive ... I like it very much! That is what training is all about right? Developing SOP's or rather printing them into the spine of those that must follow and issue them! This is on of the main reasons e.g. a Commando unit is crack. They have trained and rehersed their SOP's to an extend so that even when crap hits the fan big time everyone knows what to do and how to react, and this is true from commander to trooper. The natural extension is, as you say, that Commandos would probably also have more (one for almost all situations) and more detailed SOP's then the Russian penal Bn that would likely only have one SOP or order - "Move to death"! It also seems quite right that diverging from a SOP will be time consuming and most likely to happen around good and raking officers. Units completely out of command would survive on their basic SOP's learned during training, and will take a long time diverging from these if at all. Good thinking Mr. Tittles!
  4. Hoolman I cannot offer a lot of constructive feedback but would very much like to extend my appreciation for your thoughts on how to improve CM C&C. The efforts from anybody on this board who tries seriously to help improve on C&C, Borg Spotting and Cover (running the wrong way) issues are very much appreciated. I beleive your ideas have some real merrit and I for one do not think it would add greatly to the amount of waypoints having to be laid by the player. May I suggest that you also add your concept visualization to your top post in this thread (the picture with the purple 'Coy order/plan corridors' shown in the CMX2 whishlist thread). This will show how few extra waypoints are actually in play in your (Philippe's and Dennis's) concept. Now what could also be really nice to have implemented is Coy level SOP's to facilitate the plan, i.e. the player could actually just lay out the plan corridors for each coy and then choose between a small or big number of simplified or complicated SOP's for the advance to target. I am loosely thinking of something like "straight up the center leap frogging" or "right hook - hold'em by the nose and hit'em in the side" etc. The Coy would then try it's best (maybe also affected by experience and leaders) to follow the plan corridor and chosen SOP to reach and secure the objective. Now the player can of course step in and adjust the plan or micromanage each squad using e.g. squad level SOP's, but allways bounded by your C&C concept to facilitate realistic delays. Now, I am fully aware that the volume and maybe also the complexity of coding needed to implement this is non trivial. However BFC has proven capable of the 'impossible' before  I will never forget the statement by BFC about CMX2 - "don't think evolutional ... think revolutional" (the exact phrasing eludes me but the meaning was just that and the two pivotal words were used). Those words have eaten themselves into my spine and hold, in my view, the biggest promise of what CMX2 can be. May BFC have the good fortune and skill to fullfill their own vildest hopes and dreams! Sorry Hoolaman, that was a long way for me to say ... keep up the good work and try hard to operationalize your concept so that is moves from feeble thoughts to realistic feature that can be visualized and measured/evaluated by thoose that can eventually implement it. All the best
  5. Thomas! What an exquisite experience! A marvelous exuberance of details! I am especially fond of being able to see the sea as part of the background. Thomas, I am looking very much forward to inplementing your labour of love onto my installment of CMAK. I am part of a Sicily 1943 campaign and I think that Sicily terrain is closer to Crete/Greece terrain than mainland Italy. Wonderful stuff Thomas! And good to learn that you are still working wonders! All the best
  6. Thank you Dandelion, for the very enlightning information and beautiful pictures. There is something snappy and fashion like about many of the Italian uniforms ... compared to the often more brute looking allied and German counterparts (which can of course be cool in it's own way). All the best Frans
  7. Thank you very much Michael! Definitely a case of me having read the term "Green Devils" As to the word "Pendant" ... somehow that Danish-Latin word sneaked itself into my post! It means something like "counterpart". Facinating how stuff like wearing a helmet could be deemed "unmanly" in the 1940'ies. I remember reading on this board that at some point in history (the exact time period eludes me ... but IIRK then as late as in the 19 Century) it was considered "unmanly" to lie down during an artillery barrage ... instead it was considered "manly" taking the barrage standing (in stout posture no doubt). Thank you again Michael! Your always vigilant efforts on this board serves you credit!
  8. Hallo fellow CM'ers! A question or two for the uniform grogs and other such knowledgeable entities. While researching the fighting involved in the British push through Carlentini/Lentini and into the plain of Catania I seem to have gotten the notion that the German paratroopers owned a green beret. To get some certainty I have tried going through the sources again and tried various searches on the net, but darned if I can find any such information. So here are the questions: 1) Was it only the British "Red Devils" that owned a beret or did their German pendant also own one? 2) If so then what colour? 3) Have I watched one to many movie or did the "Red Devils" really wear their beret in battle? (very generalized ... I know!) 4) Did the Fallschirmjaeger wear it into battle (if they owned one) 5) Did the Italian Paracadutisti also present in the area own a beret? If so then what colour? Any answers are much appreciated and links with drawings, photos etc. a delightful bonus. Respectfully and all the best
  9. bumpilumpi .... or ... up ya' go matie ..
  10. Thank you Robert .... once again a job very well done! I will try to give some feedback on the mortar kill addition and reinforcement experience crossover as soon as I have time to play some more. By the first look of it, things are a-ok and looking good! Robert! Your responsiveness and service minded approach shown in this thread and by the new versions popping up, serves you credit. Thank you!
  11. Dan, Excellent work ... the vehicles and the terrain dodads and textures are a big improvement over CMBB (viewed through my eyes anyway). I was expecting CMBB in a new terrain but the look and feel of CMAK are definitely a good many notches above that of CMBB. It is amazing how much a little dust kicked up by vehicles and ground hits, makes the battlefield more alive and realictic looking. Congratulations on yet another fine product that brings the series forward. Thank you!
  12. Kaizer and everybody else who likes special names for the core troops. The trick lies in the 'Special Name'/'Standard Name' attribute for a units in the editor. The 'Standard Names' value will make CM auto generate a name from the list of names stached away somewhere in the code of CM. IIRC this list of names is made up of names requested from the CM community, certainly this was the fact for CMBO anyway. This is most likely randomized with maybe a check for the same name to not appear to often. The 'Special Name' value lets you write a name that will be used for the unit. So open the editor, load your core force (*.cme )file, go to the 'Unit Editor' and for every unit in the list press 'Edit' (at the buttom of the page) and set the name value as desired. If you choose 'Standard Name' then you will get a different name for your units in every battle. If you choose 'Special Name' and write a good name then this name will be used in all future battles, as long as you use your core force *.cme file as base for the battle *.cme files (loaded during the quick battle generation). I have named my Zug HQ after myself, but the rest I have named by letting CM generate a standard name for me in the first battle my new core force unit appears and then grabbing this standard name and write it as a special name for the unit. Hope this help to clearify the process, if not then balme it on my english and ask again . CM Campaigning forever .... ROQC Rocks ...
  13. Hallo Robert. Okay then .... Leichte und Schwere Mörser .... hmmm well it seems to me that at least Hvy Mtr's (81mm and 120mm) should count for good kill points. After all, we are talking Bn Level up Assets here. Also they are very valuable assets in game to fire direct or indirect via HQ spotter on bunched up infantry and their specialty ... towed gun killing. So in my mind a 81 mortar is worth approximately the same as a 75mm Infanterie Geschütz 1918 (maybe more due to the better mobility and indirect capability) and 120mm Mtr's approximately between the 75mm IG and the 150mm IG or maybe even on par with the 150mm IG. 50mm Mörser on the other hand is not a biggie but they are quite effective when used in combination with HMG's ... the HMG's stop and bunch the infantry (e.g. in a wood line) and the 50mm Mtr breaks them with nasty little tree bursts ... . Also the 50mm Mtr may be the only thing able to stop a Rasputin gun when going infantry only .... sooooooo what I am getting at is that it should be put maybe on par with a HMG (maybe a bit lower) Anyway that is just my feeble attempts at being clever .... a doomed project from the start I know, but hey ... who dares! Wins! So let my end by quoting the former Danish Foreign Secratary Mr. Uffe Elleman Jensen: "If you can't join them, beat them!" said the day after Denmark had punished Germany 2-0 in the European Soccer Championship Final, and a few days ealier failed to fully agree to the EU Maastrict treaty thus making Denmark a second rate EU member.
  14. Hallo Robert and all current ROQC fans. I have been playing 3 battles now in a small version of "The Long Walk" campaign with just one Green (10 exp. points) German Infantry platton. I have been doing good in the first two battles and so I now also have a 75mm IG and a Sd Kfz 7. My HQ has just turned Regular (20 exp. point) and the rest of the Zug will follow shortly. This even though my third battle was a real tough nut that left me with -36 favour points. I was given the order to probe with green Romanian Infantry (60% ammo) and the AI had Regular Combined arms with +75% handicap and 80% ammo. So I came out with no flags taken, but I managed to do some Rasputin pushing none the less and only suffered three casualties in my core force, so all in all a very intriguing experience (I have never lost to the AI before). I must say that my initial feeling for the product (ROQC) of extreme quality and firmness is holding water. This is one beautifull product and it really has given the whole CMBB (and CMAK soon) experience a good notch back up the fun factor ladder. I really really hope the CMX2 will sport a full blown campaign incorporating some of the ideas we are seeing in ROQC and other campaigns from the CM Community. I promised to share any findings and this is the little I have found so far: 1) Mortar kills does not generate experience points, even though all other types of guns and vehicles does! I am using the beautiful and very professional ROQC spreadsheet and there is no column in the core force sheet for Mortar kills and the rules does not include mortars into the Gun kill column (or the Infantry kill column for that matter). Is this intentional Robert? 2) The experience of core force additions must be taken from the "experience of replacement" roll from the last battle, right? In the spreadsheet this value is nicely listed above the replacemet columns where one can also shift personal between units (if prudent). However core force additions are done in "the next" spreadsheet for the new battle and thus the "experience of replacement" value is not there anymore. It is not hard to reopen and find the value in the "old spreadsheet" or just plain remember the value, but it would be nice if the value was carried over and presented clearly as "experience of additions" in the "new spreadsheet". Once again thank you very much for this fine CM Gem Robert! CM Campaigning forever ...
  15. Mr. Olesen ...! I am very very impressed by your work ... excellent in a single word! A humongous effort that deserves a big 'congratulations!' to you and your team for making this gem. I dare say that with ROQC, Biltong et al has gotten some naaaaaaaasty competition ... which is very good in a market forces kind of way ... Good to see the good olde 'Dannebrog' (Danish flag to all you non Danes) held high and beautiful ... I have used this evening to download and read the rules and setup my first battle, and I must say that the quality of the rules and the Excell sheet is spitzenklasse. Robert, what are the plans for the future of this fine product? Are you planning a migration to CMAK? To support the cause I will of course report any findings while reading and playing although I am not sure I will find any ... even the typos are very few and far between  As noted I have started a campaign tonight ... 'The PanzerJäger'. The special rules for this campaign state that The answer to my next question might seem trivial and obvious, but I am none the less in doubt of wheather this applies only to the armoured contingent in the core force as it (potentially) expands, or to the core force par se. In other words ... is the core force only meant to consist of armoured vehicles (TD's and TH's) or is infantry also applicable?. I know I am allowed to play as I see fit but I would like to play it 'right' and to the intend of the creators (playtested also I presume). Robert ... enough for now ... but if you ever organize a Danish CMXX event or hear of any such endeavour then please send me a mail, as I would be very interested to participate. And should you ever feel the need for some Danish PBEM then don't think twice about mailing me ... Once again thank you very much for sharing this gem and putting in all the hard hours to make it happen ... Sincerely ... [ October 26, 2003, 07:29 PM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  16. For your reading pleasure ... Fruelingswind After Action Review Sorry Gent's if this has been posted before, but better twice than never ... [ October 11, 2003, 02:51 PM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  17. Wonderfull post Ligur ... marvelous! I particulary like your visualizations, the work of a true craftsman. The attention to detail is just the very tasty icing on the cake (waitng with taking screen shots until the SPW gunner looks straight at the post viewer) ... I am impressed. And all this is done in about 3,5 hours. I can only second that you be used to beef up the manual and guides for CMX2. Thank you for taking the time and sharing with the community. The ARC functionality is now proven to work the way Charles explained when CMBB was new on the block. CMBB Grogs will for sure know the basics of this already (they must because even I did!), but there are some fine points in your test that must be educational for even them, like the reaction timing and AT Gun free streak. And for sure all this must be it's weight woth in gold to all the new CMBB players out there. Ligur ... my hat goes off for you... Thank you Frans [ June 26, 2003, 07:19 PM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  18. Thank you Moon! Very much! You, and the rest of the crew should feel proud of the way you do business. Looking forward to all the wonderful stuf with CMAK and CMX2. Best regards Frans
  19. Cataphract, I suggest you go here and download the players guide. Any questions after reading the document should be posted in the thread I linked you to above. Read then ask
  20. Cataphract, you should check out Biltongs Campaign rules. See this thread Biltongs Campaign Rules Happy hunting trooper. Best regards Frans
  21. Thank you Battlefront! Top notch service and christmas present all in one. Stuff like this is what has marked me as life time customer from day one back in them early days. You get the customers you deserve! I whish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. "May your days be merry and briiiiiiiight, and may all your christmases be white ...." Merry Christmas
  22. Ok Biltong and Apache Your good spirit and drive is very contageous, and now you got me hooked  Will download everything tonight and start fiddling about. I will of course try to give as much constructive feedback as possible. Biltong, when will the new version of the rules with the fixed replacement stuff from page 8 in this thread and the favor stuff on this page be released? I feel that should be the version for me to start on! Thank you again guys
  23. To Biltong, Apache, SuperSulo, 86smopuim and everybody else involved and contributing to the BCR. I have been following this for a short while and have to start by praising all the hard work and dedication going on here, simply marvelous  I for one am very grateful and would like to extend my thanks to all those involved, it is very much appreciated. When I feel the product is mature I will for sure embark on this wonderful endeavour. As you may well know the "why don't CM have a campaign layer" flok extends all the way back to before CMBO was published, and I have always belonged to that body of people. I am very interested in any kind of campaign and am currently participating as artillery regiment commander and strategic map maker on the GrossDeutschland staff in the Tigers Vs Bears campaign. I am imensely intrigued by the work going on here. The addition of a campaign layer that involves the possibility to train and upgrade your troops is just what the doctor ordered for continued interest in playing the AI. It is not realistic in any way, shape or form, but dang it's good fun, and the strategic layer can never take away the marvelous realism of the tactical layer done so well by CMBB. The way you guys are shaping the campaign also means that the player will learn sound tactics and at the same time the player will get to see all the 'corners' of the CMBB product with regards to equipment, periods and places, not a small accomplishment by any measure! By the look of it, it seems that you are really getting things together, although I still regard the whole thing as somewhat beta, the amount of upgrades alone indicates this. Not that I think this is a bad thing, au contraire! I can see from your posts that you are eager to wrap up the whole thing with expedience. I think that you should adopt the same attitude as BFC, best described this way: So take on the attitude of a long haul rather then a short sprint, it's done when it's done, and not a second before  . Especially the accessebility to people not being involved in this from the start needs some more addressing if it is to be spread to a larger player segment. That however has also started to appear, which leads me to encourage 86smopuim to continue the excellent work on automating the whole number crunching proceess before and between battles. This is very important work for the continued involvement and attraction for others then the small elite in play now. I think a natural extension to that process is an application that handles all the rules with an easy to use interface. Then you guys would truly have a winner on your hands. Regardless, I look very much forward to joining the ranks of BCR players  I know this is a to long post when I don't bring anything to the table. I however like the look of this so much that I would hate if it went cold due to lack of support or encouragement, so please view this post in that light. Keep up the good work guys! You are doing a magnificent job, and are all contributing in no small way to the CMBB community. Thank you. A BCR participant in spe  P.s.: Biltong you should continue expanding the initial rules walkthrough to ease folks into the whole thing. Also consider including your goal statements from above! 24. Hello Biltong. I would also like a copy of your labour of love. Thank you for all the hard work. e-mail is in the profile. Thank you Frans
  25. Fallweiss. I would be very honoured if I could be part of this wonderful endeavour, preferably as lower level German Officer. I must ditto the remarks about your sparkling web-site, simply magnificent, outstanding. Hope that positions are still open. Thank you. [ September 19, 2002, 03:27 AM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
