  1. Exactly Herr Mueller! I agree completely and I am already using it for everything added to my TOW installation ... so don't leave home without it. Modders! Also make sure to add and utilize the 'Documentation' folder that JSGME can read when right clicking on a mod within the program. Also remember that FinnN has talked about treating us all (when releasing his German Infantry mod) with a tool that will handle appending of stuff to some files that can apparently not be handled with JSGME. So between JSGME and the FinnN tool we should have a common denominator for all future TOW mod implementations. Thank you to all the modders making this happen! Especially Dr. Jones, Oudy, FinnN, SlapHappy, Drawde79 and WebWing All the best [ July 03, 2007, 03:27 AM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  2. Excellent Oudy! Throw it my way also and I will test. f.e.jensen@vip.cybercity.dk All the best Frans
  3. ... OR press the 'set default' button as it will assign the backspace button to do the job  All the best
  4. Good day to you all my fellow forumites! I was just wondering if any of the Russian players frequenting this here fine old forum have actually bought and tried the Russian second edition that was released on june 22. ? Lacking any responses to the above it would then be interesting to hear from anybody having downloaded and tried the Russian beta update 1.2.0.49 ? My main interests is if the save/load game bug has been fixed and if the map editor seems to be working. Not being able to save and load the game is really a non-starter for me as I have limited timeslots for playing and thus cannot finish the battles in one inning. The suggeted workaround of using quick save/load only works quite infrequently and is thus not a viable solution. The map editor is very important also as it will probably be the only thing that can give this game some longevity via community created campaigns and single battles. Any responses on the above are much appreciated. I want to use this post also to say thank you to the modders that have already started to investigate the modding possibilities (seems to look quite promising) and also created missions for TOW. I have tried and can recommend very much: - Action at Yanovo, 7 July 1941 (by Oudy) - Village Attack (Monstro by Webwing) - Saving Private Ryan (by Sabai) Thank you vey much for those nice battles! Hope to see more good stuff from you and others in the future! All the best
  5. I don't think you were being rude ... I think you were being rudel Anyway, excellent post Rudel ! All the best Frans
  6. From the orient encyklopedia. Allahu akbar Arabic: allahu 'akbar Muslim saying, frequently used in situations ranging from a greeting to an expression of strong sentiments. It is most correctly translated with "God is greater", but in many instances the almost similar "God is great" is an equally correct translation. "Allahu Akbar" is the first part of the adhan, which is heard 5 times daily in Muslim communities. The saying is a very strong expression that summarizes the entire core of Islam.
  7. Pheww ... At the screen I gazed ... KAPOW! to the TOW site I raced Promptly my order was placed ... and WOW! If a gem this ain't, I'll be amased /Peace

  10. Hmmm ... which to choose ... 'Hi mom'? 'What a wonderful world'? 'How about those exiting game relevant news just being flashed on the blog? Do you think we will get a range of smaller caliber mortars like up to 81mm?' Come on Gent's ... smile to the world!
  11. Thank you for the heads up Stone75 ... let me just add the linkey to the blog entry for the heck of it ... also gives me the chance to say, that I for one think that ... ... sounds mighty good to me. All the best fanboyforumtrollwhatnotbutlookingforwardtothegameanyway ...
  12. Cincinatvs! Thank you for the heads up! Well it seems that the hard working group of developers from 1C have delivered their labour of love (in the shape of a shiny new DVD no doubt) for final approvement and shipment to production. Anyway that is how I interpret the commotion at the 1C russian web site. Sorry for the lousy web translation but that was what I could find -------------------------- fil announced at 1C website: Have handed over VDNKH wrote at 1C website: The official announcement will be, when director of firm will sign the order. Earlier it is impossible. On Friday the announcement should turn out. MaKoUr answered at 1C website: And can already name date when sales will begin? VDNKH answered at 1C website: I can not, where director will not approve(confirm). And disks to print will not begin, Where director will not approve(confirm). Understand, at us not democratic The state, and firm with the debugged process of manufacture. If I to you shall name date, and then it(her) will shift, will abuse us so I shall not risk. ------------------------------- Regardless I would like to congratulate the development team! This game has a looooong history and someone somewhere have obviously been hanging in there and kept the faith in the project. Also congratulations to BF.C and thank you for giving this game a chance. May the game be good and your well deserved rest likewise (the latter only for the 1C guys of course ). Congratulations and all the best! [ October 10, 2006, 10:21 AM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  13. ROMFL .... ahhh that was good, you just made my evening, bless you!
  14. Well the whole idea might be a bit infantile, but it sure was fun back then, and fun (but extremely hard work) now via the two user made CMX1 campaigns I have participated in so far and GM'ed. Then so be it! I hear and understand your reasoning full well. However my original statement was "I guess it's all about context really!". Now from what I see you writing on this board, you are adding a new 'layer' (for lack of a better word), or some form of new context that will bind the battles together in a way that either replaces or expands the current operations 'layer'. You even hint about role playing which will also add context to this layer and help bind the battles together. In my book this is excellent news and something that will add even more excitement to playing CM. Looking immensely forward to playing CM the new generation. All the best
  15. I don't think that "wouldn't be to hard to add" is possible when talking about adding a strategical layer to a game like CM. To some extend it would have to have a similar quality as the tactical layer for it not to drag that part down. And BFC has proven that they care very deeply about quality. So I guess that the mere fact that they might have started on that road is as good as it gets for now. But like with the Sherman 'good is good enough' ... for now anyway ...
  16. I guess it is all about context really! Please bear with me I remember my first computer, an Amstrad 128, you know the one with the diskette station in the keyboard. Man them were great days. I think we are back in 1984-86. Anyway I still remember “Elite” with fond recollections of ASP’s, Vipers and that extremely cool Fer-De-Lance and also those pesky rotating space stations … simply fantastic. Other games from that eara have also stuck them selves in some of the wavering RAM in my head … DesertFox and Tobruk1942! Do you remember those? I took a trip down memory lane today, have a look at the pictures below: TOBRUK DESERTFOX Now what made those games extremely fun in my view was the ability to play a layered game consisting of both a strategical level and a tactical (or action) level. The magic of those games was the fact that the choices you made strategically had impact on the tactical level and vice versa. So if I moved my units to good strategical positions and handled my supply dumps well, I would have an edge when fighting the tactical battles. Also if I fought well in the tactical battles I could get away with less optimal strategical situations. Elite actually also had this to some extend with the strategical level being what planetary system you would visit next and what goods to trade in, as well as what ship upgrades to buy. I guess the short way to put it is that the tactical or action battles did not stand alone but were put in a larger context going way beyond the single battles. Today we have the masterpiece we all know as CMX1. However even with its operations I have personally always felt that the battles in CM lack an overall context like the above mentioned games delivered however crude. To remedy this, a multitude of user created campaigns of all sorts have been created with CMX1 as the tactical layer and something else providing the strategical layer. The different campaigns have differed greatly in scope, size and complexity. Some have great emphasis on the strategic layer and command structure within that layer (CMMC springs to mind) while others have a very simple strategical layer only handling overall movement of units with emphasis and almost all time spent on the tactical level. However the common denominator is still playing CM in a strategical context. The way I see it, the intention of these user made campaigns is very clearly to play some great CM tactical battles within a historical context but doing so with a 'realistic' (as much as possible anyway) strategical layer on top so that the strategical choices having to be made in that layer impact the setup of the individual battles and vice versa, meaning that the outcome of the individual battles impact back to the choices having to be made in the strategical layer. So I guess what I am saying is - Thank you very much Steve for working CMX2 in the general direction outlined above however big or small that step might be. It is much appreciated, and I for one am looking immensely forward to whatever you guys can bring to the table in this respect. All the best
  17. LoL ... I must have seen that picture a dosen times and yet it is the first time I notise that the unit base is actually an arrow indicating unit heading. Actually quite neat if you ask me ... I wonder why that idea never made it through beta testing? Who knows what will be in store for us with regards to unit bases (if they exist at all) in CMx2 All the best Frans
  18. I could not agree more kipanderson! I think your posts sums up nicely what have been going on with various campaigns in the CM community during the last 4 years or more. I have been involved in two of those. In the first (CMTB) we used a specialised version of COCAT (the one used for CMMC 1) as strategical Bn/Coy level game and CMBB to resolve the contact battles. In the second ongoing campaign (CMOC) we are using HTTR as strategical Bn/Coy level game and CMAK to resolve the contact battles. It really is an unbeatable experience seeing how strategical decisions affect the tactical battles and vise versa. It really has come to the point that whenever I boot up HTTR or CMAK to play as single games I feel that the other one is 'missing'. Wonderfull stuff ... spitzen klasse! All the best Frans
  19. You simply download the program to your desktop or any convenient folder and use it as you would any other application. /Frans
  20. Well the CM Map converter can do that for you. Even the rotate bit and adding elevation if desired etc. And it does so between all instances of CM (CMBO/CMBB/CMAK). Go here for this mother beautiful program that should be on any true CM grogs HD along with Mapping Mission. All the best Frans
  21. Acknowledged! Thank you for the "clearification"! It still sounds mighty good to me and definitely a step in the right direction from CMx1! If you guys could come up with the ability to somehow mold and customize the 'campaigns' to facilitate the ability to 'do your own' (in short a campaign editor) then nirvana is next step. Excellent stuff Steve! Thank you! All the best Frans [ January 06, 2005, 01:58 PM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
  22. Hot dang Steve! Now that is what I call GOOD NEWS ... or rather bloody marvelous news! I am currently umpiring a CMAK campaign where I also act as human interface between our strategical level (HTTR) and our tactical level (CMAK) catering for wounded and supplies etc. My eyes are turning red and my hands turning crooked from updating spreadsheets and doing workarounds with the CMAK battle and map editors trying to make the ends meet. So your statement is nothing short of being wonderful music for the ears. I simply can't wait to see what else you have in store for us. Thank you Steve for the updates and this little gem of a bone. All the best whishes for a 2005 without to many troubles in the development of the next revolution in wargaming. All the best Frans [ January 06, 2005, 12:00 AM: Message edited by: HawkerT ]
