  1. I image that the forum will become very active initially and then settle into a nice continuous level of communication. Boards are a great place for a community based around something to stick together and talk shop. There'll be discussions, scenerio swapping, PBEM, bug reports (not to many of these I hope) and of course news - of patches, of CM2 and various web site updates. I'd be surprised that BTS would close it down - especially when it's part of the web site that you order their product from. But of course the gents at BTS have the final word....Steve? Reg's Fen
  2. The idea of AT rifles is still around, although they're called "anti material" rifles now. IIRC Steyr (sp?) have a 15mm rifle. It's primary purpose as the name suggests is to blow holes in engines and stuff like that. I don't know of any country who's armed forces have taken them up as standard equipment tho. Reg's Fen
  3. Nice one, pics all appeared fine for me. Personal best in CM is a Sherman at 132 meters with a 'schreck team. Reg's Fen
  4. Very good ideas Slazzari and Magnus. Reg's Fen
  5. I've just read "War of the Rats" by David Robbins which has exactly the same story line. Chief Master Sargeant Vasily Zaitsev makes a name for him self as a sniper and SS Colonel Heinz Thorvald is brought in to take him out. And yes the love interest really did happen (however hokey it seemed in the book). Intro says it's a factual account of events based on research and interviews. I preferred "Cross of Iron" and "The Forgotten Soldier" though, but a good read none the less. Reg's Fen
  6. Ahhh pointing this guy at WB Pritzl....Tsk, tsk aren't there laws against putting people onto addictive substances? Hope I'm talking to the right guy, s! You still flying? Reg's Fen [This message has been edited by Fenris (edited 04-04-2000).]
  7. FYI, if you're interested in a little fiction read "Fatherland" by Robert Harris. Is a thriller set in 1964 in a world were Germany was successful and rules all of eastern Europe up to the Urals. The cold war is on but between the Nazi government and the western allies. The Soviets are still around, fighting it out in the mountains. Also "SS-GB" by Len Deighton isn't too bad either. Another thriller set in an occupied UK. Reg's Fen
  8. I believe AAA weapons were regularly used to suppress infantry and light vehichles...Especially on the Ost front. I've seen footage of a truck mounted 20mm cannon being fired on the level to supress soviet infantry. It was reportedly quite devastating, as you can probably imagine. Regs Fen
  9. Loved Acient Art of War....Still got it and some custom scenerios on 5 and 1/4" floppies...Thanks for the pointer CoolColJ. reg's Fen
  10. It's actually a 12 video set with 26 episodes (yes I have them all). Is very good at giving you a broad look at the war in total. Doesn't get too nitty gritty but has lots of interviews and comments by veterans from all sides. Definitely worth US$50. Reg's Fen
  11. Hi Madmatt, Suggestion for the AAR's.... A "Next" button at the bottom of the page as a link to the next turns installment would be nice. Thanks for the the continuous updates, I really like the daily pics. Reg's Fen
  12. Ya Das Boot is better. Watched the first half hour of Stalingrad last night...Brought back the things I didn't like about the film...mainly the crappy acting and very melodramatic battle scenes. Ended up turning it off and reading "The Naked and the Dead" a book about a squad of Marines in the PTO.
  13. Just read the thread and will try the sounds out once I get home... WRT German voices, there's a bit were you hear "Los, los, los!" that would be good to use for the the "get moving" sound for the Germans. The bit I'm talking about is in the final battle when the GI's a lobbing the mortar rounds at the german infantry. One is thrown into and archway under a building, you hear the above mentioned Los! Los! Los! and then some poor bastard gets vaporised. Anyway, thanks for your effort. Reg's Fen
  14. Alt+Prnt Scrn copies the currently active window to the clip board. Prnt Scrn on it's own copies the entire screen to the clip board. As CM is 'full screen' when it's running you won't notice the difference. Fen Desktop Support Person PS a good trick to stress someone out is to do a Print Screen of their desktop and then set it as their wall paper. Then move or delete all their icons....They'll be clicking but nothing will happen...hehe
  15. This sounds very cool, I can imagine counter attacking over previously lost territory. See-sawing battles, taking, losing and then re-taking villages.... CM is looking like it's going to be THE best thing since sliced bread. But wait there's more...Ost Front
  16. Quote: Note that all German "super" heavy artillery was used for pinpoint, STRATEGIC targets. Just like bombers, they have no place in CM because of that. Steve What? So we couldn't just put the barrel down and use it with open sights against that bazooka team over there??? Fen
  17. Hey Tzeench, don't you have to wait until AD40K before getting involved with Earth?? Hehe. Anyway, yes I believe that the 'skins' in the game are .bmp files that we will be able to edit. If that's the case then I guess we could have skin packs and just substitute the files depending on our preference at the time. I'm not sure if the final product will have different camo schemes built in. Reg's Fen
  18. 88's got their badass rep from being able to kill anything at "long" range. In close they're a big static target, I believe the demo's aren't the environment in which the 88's can shine. Bigger maps will be where they come into there own..That and CM2 Ost Front Man the waiting is tough, checking the board everyday, looking over at CMHQ.....THAT's what gives me sour grapes - but in that petulant I want it now kinda way. Really looking forward to getting my hands on CM soon. Reg's Fen Edit - can't speel for crap ;p [This message has been edited by Fenris (edited 01-09-2000).]
  19. Some screen pics and an alpha build video of some tanks is all that's currently available...They don't expect any sort of demo until least Q2 2000. The flight model video on their site is more a joke than anything else, as they say d/l for a laugh. I'm not too excited about this yet...they got alot of work to do and if it's as good as they say it's going to be I'm sure we'll hear more in the future. You can find more info/interviews at www.dogfighter.com IIRC. Reg's Fen
  20. I've been playing Warbirds for nearly 4 years...It's a WW2 aircombat simulation where up to 200 odd people can be online in one arena flying and fighting at once. So basically every aircraft you see is being piloted by another human somewhere on earth. WW2Online is being made by the the people who origially created Warbirds. The difference will be that WW2OL will be a "total" simulation of the Battle of France (with other theatres to follow). It is to include air, sea and land ops from battleships to grunts and pretty much all the hardware in between, Panzers, Spitfires, U-boats....oh my etc etc. Warbirds is supposed to be 'the' best online sim on the market these days and these guys have a ton of experience and alot of us in the WB community are eagerly awaiting WW2OL's release. If past experience is anything to go by a free pulic beta would be released before paid production so that bug's can be worked out and everyone can begin to drool over the final release. Tom, people setting up virtual unit's are generally imports from other online games. In WB I'm a member of JG27 (a german fighter unit)..So my CO has already been getting organised to have JG27 represented in WW2OL. If you've never tried this sort of thing then I wouldn't bag it out...personally if you're into simulations I think it's the best experience you can have. Thomas, no definitely not turn based, it's a sim, so you can't pause the action and consider your next move There's actually been a bit of discussion within the WB community about CM...most of us can't wait to see it too. Reg's Hptm Fenris White 2 4./JG27 AFRIKA (virtual) [This message has been edited by Fenris (edited 01-03-2000).]
  21. Mike is correct, I've used pauses during a turn, move...Pause....Pause...Move. Each pause is 15 secounds. Reg's Fen
  22. WRT the Czech Rep....When I was in Prague a few years ago I stayed for a week on the outskirts of town. Everyday I passed this used 'car' yard that in addition to lots of Lada's also had a heap of military stuff too. T34's, a T55, flak guns, some armoured cars (post WW2), shells piled around, some light AAA and a few AT guns. Never did go in for a look around tho, I wish I had now, there could well have been some wermacht stuff stashed away that I couldn't see.... Maybe next time Regs Fen
  23. PAC would be nice.....But what they've mapped out looks great. But would definitely like to see the Pacific theatre...I could recreate the Diggers pushing the Japanese back from Port Moresby Reg's Fen
  24. I've seen a pic over at CMHQ of a flame team moving, ie there's a guy infront with 2 big tanks on his back. But he isn't firing. Regs Fen
  25. Good post Gunnerdream. I too have followed this one for a while having been a bit of a board gamer originally. Saw the AVI movies ages ago and was pretty impressed. Then I forgot about it for a while and then I check back and lo! A playable demo...I haven't played anything else on my PC since downloading it last week. I can't wait to order a couple of jagdpathers around. I really did the "whoa! mad!" thing when I pressed GO on the first turn and saw tracer flying around from the back of that Tiger. And a full scenrio builder.....absolutely great. Very eagerly awaiting delivery of this little baby. Regs Fenris ps - Will there be a 'random' generator for scenerios like SP does (map & forces etc)? And linking each turns movie into 1 long movie spanning the entire engagement?? please tell me this isn't vapourwave...
