I can see your argument - but do coverdisks really have an effect on the game buying population. Of all the coverdisk demos I have played the only ones that have inspired me to but the demo are : 1) commandos behind enemy lines 2) hidden and dangerous Most of my fave wargames were bought on review alone - and some of them only because my friends had recommended them to me. Coverdisks may not be that important afterall.

I know CMHQ have a scenario depot - are there any plans to rate the scenarios available for down load at this site - ie. will they have to meet a certain standard to be available for download ???? As DYO scenarios will feature heavily in the coming months are the any plans to orchestrate this so as to avoid scenario duplication. :confused I don't mean to appear too pendantic but SP was really great as there were hundreds of well designed scenarios available for download - although some of these were quite similar owing to the nautre of the scanario designer. Given the scope of the CM editor and what I have seen in the POTD's to date then anything appears possible - it would be a shame if everyone wants to design a pegasus bridge.

Seen Cross of Iron 3 or 4 times on TV - it is an absolutely superb film with a strange ending which was apparently made up on the day of the shoot.

The good/evil idea doesn't figure for me. It is perhaps easier to think of the initiators of war as evil but there is a counterside to every coin. WWII has an appeal for individuals from many nationalities. As an aside - I am English but prefer playing wargames as the Axis & am more interested in Axis military history - why ? Not sure really, it is not just the military hardware but probably is associated with the idea of being a "conqueror" - (again prob. just a male thing). However, when playing scenarios re Normany landings I prefer to play as the Allies.

Patton's downfall - having to use the bathroom for a few minutes during the planning of an operation ?

yeah I think it looks a little chuncky also - but I think it were made any finer then it would not be very visible -especially if the map was zoomed out. I can't recall if I have even seen an accurate representation of barbed wire in any computer game.

Sorry - didn't mean to offend - there is no getting away from the seriousness and gravity (?) of any confrontation - but as an outsider, with no experience in the armed forces whatsoever, the pull of WWII is greater than anything else.

This is a tough question I think. For me I missed the end by twenty years - but twenty years is not so long. I am drawn to the era because of the intense human suffering and sacrifice during the period. I fell these few years also exhibited the baseness of the human soul and also the complexity of it. For me it it is not a question of warfare, although the "art" of war in itself is compelling. Being only a "partime semi-grognard" I cannot relate to modern conflict - it seems to lack the sense of scale. Anyway, I just wondered what attracted you folks to WWII - or maybe you have more interest in WWI or some other conflict ????????

Waiting for the gold demo (& the tooth fairy) before I preorder. Will invite friends over to drool at CM but limit them to three 60 seconds turns each - then will force them to order on my computer.

Steel Panthers was the best for me. Lots of goods scenarios. Wide thetre of war. Nice sound fx. Reasonable graphics (ants). But, most importantly, good scenario editor, PBEM and lots of playablility. Oh, and setting up smoke screens was cool

Madmatt - a daft question here (I'm prob expecting too much). Do vehicles (not infantry) leave tracks in the snow ???? Not that it matters though ? New face graphics look great BTW - a couple of real moody buggers !!! (who were they modeled on !!! )
