  1. William: I think your way, the pacific is almost interisting. Not forget also all the political implications in a WORLD-war. Now the zoom is in my opinion more or less a "no-fun". in Fact: how much fields maximum you need to take a, say russian, city? normally Axis have about 2 Tanks 1 Army and a 1 Corps, and maybe some Airforce and so on, behind the lines. OK. Now extrapolate this to an island city. Airforce comes from Carriers, also you may need 1-3 Seafields around for Battleship-Bombardings, and maybe 2-3 Landing units to take a City. So a Island with several (i.e. 3-5) Land-Fields around is large enough to take a City on a Island. Why try to Zoom for every City you may want to take? I think also on the time one will take for the "blitzkrieg" starting with Warsaw, Amsterdam, Oslo, Bergen, Dunkerque, Brussels, Paris and so on-... I would say this Zoom more or less couldbe a "fun-killer" as you loose the "entire" vision of a GLOBAL campaign...
  2. Really: these coutners are nice work. i would even prefer them to the 3D units. Rembers a little good ol'SC1 times.
  3. not forget that the Unit needs sufficient supply ( 7 + ) and no ennemy units besides, then only you can "prepare" and "jump" next turn in the operational Range.
  4. Just for Fun, i invaded Crete by 2 Amphibious units 1 HQ and a Corps, after Axis AI was overrun in Frans as well as in Russia, and I found out : THE PORT does not go over to my (Allies) side even as I have 2 Units besides. I think the same passes in the Scapa Flow Port, so there is a problem that these Ports are not really possible to be taken by Land units, right? It seems the Port reacts like a Ennemy City and does not change side easily... the problem to take this Port is then i need to Bomb it down to 0 and then occupy with a ship which is very "expensive". Have anybody made same experience?
  5. To SOmbra: Yes that is also my Fear: An experienced player would build around the RR-Centers, so that a Bombing Strategy would be avoided by surrounding the cities (Ceating RR-HighWays from Berlin to Everywhere...) . not so nice. Easiest maybe would be to do a Script solution: By acting in a certain way the player enables a Skript that realizes a couple o Strategic RR-Connections that where important for the war, i.e. the Burma-RR or some other smaller RR-Projects. That has also theadvantage of beeing more close tho historic context.
  6. to emf: well i thought a lot on this approach on dividing the pacific... at the end, i wanted not to have a war-theater divided in 2 parts. Most important Theatres where 1)European 2) Pacific 3) Mediteranean 4) Middle East. So only 2 Cut lines where possible: Cut USA and SOuth America from north to South, or Asia. Didn t favour so much cutting USA, even if this is an option. also cutting America is rather difficult and not so much Asian-Centered maps available.
  7. SeaMonkey & Liam: well to the suggestions and examples of Airlifts, there could be a more easy and also realisitc approach in SC2WAW: Imagine a "Support-HQ" (cost i.e. 75 or 100MPP) that can be Airborne (distance same as Paratroops) and Has a strength Level as well as Supply Level of 6 on landing. And now each turn the "Support HQ" is reduced by 1 Point in Strength as well as Support. After 5 Turns it simply disappears from the map. This could be an approach to Some "airlift" supply problems. i.e. this Supply-HQ can land in Africa (representing Air-Supply over Meditearanean) and help the "lost-Armys" there, or land in Russia in an "cut off zone" or make possible some Airborne-landings in Asia or Pacific Islands, without the immediate problem of supply for the Paratroops. Could bring some challenging issues and interisting Air-Raids On the other Hand, most "cut-off" units anyway are lost, and if cut off, then they are maybe allready surrounded by ennemy, so a landing is not the solution. In this Case the "support-HQ" unit could be something like that: A Support-HQ that can "fill-up" support of ONE single Unit within it's Operating Range (like the manual-function of HQ attachment). i.e. this Unit (Looking like a Transport-Plane)can be clicked on and then the Engine asks "which Unit in range shall be supplied?" and you click a Corps/tank/Army or sth. and the Clicked Army gets i.e. +5aditional Supply (for the next turn). In order not to abuse this system only the Mayor Nations shall get this Unit (i.e. URSS/UK/JAP/IT: each one and USA/GER 2 Units) What about this idea? (but still no solution for the Railways....:-(( )
  8. Well a Maybe Easy to Implement Issue would be to have the Engineers create something like a "Support-field" means the Engineer creates an "Airfield" or simply spoken a Filed which has a Stand-Alone-Support of 5, Same for Harbours where this Engineers (able to move on Sea fields) creates a "port" or simply spoken a Sea-Field with Stand-Alone-Support of 5. For the Railroad the issue is more difficult...
  9. For China, you re right, the country is too easy to take, at least i found out what was the problem: China is a huge country (similar to russia) but the difference between both are the Mountains and Hills in China which are lacking a little. soon you will see if it is still as easy to take China with supply levels around 0...
  10. NOT Yet, right, but as we say in German: "you will fall of your chair" (trans.-lit.: amazing) when you'll see it finished. I promise!
  11. I was thinking the same, but the 2 allready mentioned factors are important: SPACE on the map COMPLICATED, more with this So the River Kwai RR was important, as were some other Infrastructure Projects, but Strategically this should be seen as not relevant for an Strategic Game Approach. Continuing this way, you end up Plannning the evening Meals for your armies, and weather to put Gas or Diesel in the Tank engine...
  12. To Desert Dave: Have you more precise Info about the "IF" case of US Help when Alamein Falls? Where and How Much Aid was forseen there? It's if i can do some inplication for this case in the Global Campaign, could be interisting to see if this support is Useful.
  13. Also would be Nice if Engineers could Build a "all Around" Fortification ( all sides )
  14. Hi Phillipe: as i am making some investigations to enhance significantly the Global Campaign Map ( yes it will throw you out of the chair, so cool!), here is some information i found some time ago regarding OIL SUPPLY and Production: Main Oil Exporters in 1935 United States 6,958 kt Iran 6,860 kt Romania 6,221 kt Dutch East India (Indonesia) 5,139 kt Russia 3,369 kt Columbia 2,279 kt Main Oil Importers in 1935 Great Britain 10,487 kt France 6,390 kt Canada 4,509 kt United States 4,366 kt Germany 3,863 kt Japan 3,680 kt and some older Information on annual Production by 1929: USA 138.104.000 Venezuela 20.402.000 UdSSR 14.477.000 Mexiko 6.700.000 Iran 5.549.000 Niederl. Indien (Indonesien) 5.239.000 Rumänien 4.847.000 Kolumbien 2.911.000 Peru 1.777.000 Argentinien 1.365.000 Trinidad 1.213.000 Britisch Indien (Indien, Burma) 1.201.000 Polen 675.000 Irak 116.000 Deutsches Reich 103.000
  15. In Fact, are subs the only units that is spotted? and othere question, how does Intelligence research impact the probability of spotting?
  16. Hi guys! thanks for the comments regarding the GC map. Do not fear we'll have a look for all this points. I must say i terribly enjoy this map, mostly H vs H, and the unbeliveble possibilities of a whole world. Not forget plz that USSR received a lot of aid from GB and USA, so the strength of USSR depend historically on support via Iran, Wladivostok and Murmansk. One must really try to help each other Ally out , else all 3 go down the river... the "hordes" of Volkssturm where thougt just for fun at least, but a little surprise challenge is alwas welcome , isn t it?
  17. No way with your units that you have around Kairo. Italian have not enough Mouvement Points and You have no German Unit with adequate Mouvement points beside. Dont forget that the Desert fields take 1 Mouvement points and ennemy Crossing River also 1. so the Only way to get into Cairo is Airborne or with a Tank or similar Mouvement capacitiy unit. this is to represent the real distance between Alexandria and Kairo, from north to south. else Egypt is too easy...
  18. the San DIego Marine Base doesn t belong to USA until about March 1941. See scripts "annexed", this is that the USA minor needs a EXPORT Harbour for the MPP that go to Japan. The Harbour is annexed by USA in 41 with the title: "US puts full Export Embargo to Japan". after that you can fully use this Harbour as Allies.
  19. if i remebrer well the MPP of Norway and Sweden always come by Convois, and this does nt change either in WAW. even if you have a landbridge to Skandinavia via Leningrad and FIN, the efficiencity of N an S is rahter ugly in MPP via COnvois. i tried this once instead of Africa, and was n t so nice.
  20. to Seamonkey: what s about Palmyra, i even bought a book about Pacific War, but I never Heard of this...I also didnt hear about Truk in the Caroline. What about this Islands? any Mayor Strategic battle? Plz send Wiki link or so, to see forward for these. Rabaoul, Dutch Harbour, Fidji, Solomons, Noumea, this all as well As Saipan Okinawa and Iwo Jima is no problem, anyway i almost c'ant await to play a nice Island Hopping Campaign, combined with Russia !!!
  21. Hi Seamonkey: i also tend to your proposal to enhance simply the Carrier Techs in 4 Dimensions instead of crating 2-3 different Carrier Types. For this Pacific Part of the Scenario, Long Range-Air Strength and the new Tactical Bombing and the other research type would be the best representative for sc2. I also would say the Doolittle can be better done with a Script, as is was an exeption, mostly used for propaganda, and only had a motivation effect.
  22. Well , i thought the Pacific is even too large... bit at least filled with several island ther es still a lot of water. As the Map size is almost only limited by the 256 tiles on the large side, and not to the hight side, so anyway one can fillup from the real North until the Real South... I think even if Midway would be worth 5 MPP, there s no need of convoys from one ore several of this islands, not even Hawaii. I think Economically spoken, the Production goes in the homeland, so these "resources" (f.ex. Midway) simply do not exist, only for supply Planning proposes.
  23. John, you re right, the Winter is too short for the Pacific activities, as they are all after the "Rain-Season" until end october. I think, the most realistic could be tho have the time factor beeing linear. this simply would signify a "real ugly"-russian winter, with less activity, and more activity on the Pacific side. you can change this set easily in the settings, i think.
  24. Hi William, thanks for the comment on the Clobal Campaign. Well, as i helped Hubert in design, just some comment on the Island Hopping Problem: In the Blitzkrieg Version, i disposed only of 2 Styles for Supply of Units: Cities, or the Fortress. so for the Islands i thougt, cities is a little too heavy on such worthless islands as Midway f.ex., so i just let it be the fortress. Now, as already mentionned in the forum, this Fortifications are too strong. The good point in the WAW Expansion possibilities, is that there are "villages" possible. So for the future, an island will not only need "one-lonley" landfield, but every Strategically impotant Island gets at least 3-4 "landfields" ( even if thats far overmeasured compared to real land mass ). This, and the "village" combination, will fully enable the "Island-Hopping" and will be a challenging part, as the landings "must" be accompagned by Carriers and BB`s, because 3-4 landfields mean: not much possible space For HQ support, so a landing goes or "good" or "bad". this also improves the necessity of Japanese defense on the Sea with possibly important naval Battles required. So far the info to the Island Hopping. This then also will be the solution for the support problem. f.ex. if there is a say Japanese Air unit or simply a Corps in the Village of Guam, the combined BB and CVS bombing will bring this support down from 5 to 0 in one turn, and even if after landing of 2 US Marine Armys there should be still something of this Japanese corps left, then on next turn this Japanese Corps stands with support of 1 which is more or less realisitc, and will be overthrown in the 2nd turn, even without HQ support of the US Armys. To the comment that Japan could position 3 Corps on the Island or simply 3 Units, i don't think Japan would have enough units and forces to spend 3 Units on more than one Island ( maybe Okinava, or Saipan ), but 2 of the 3 Units can not entrench in the Tropical-Mudd terrain, so they could even be blown away by strong Naval support. And if USA has no strong naval support, anyway there is something wrong...- ))
  25. some details about historic Warmaking Potencial , following http://www.combinedfleet.com/economic.htm the Global Campaign cannot be balanced anyway if it s tried to make historic, see below: Country % of Total Warmaking Potential United States 41.7% Germany 14.4% USSR 14.0% UK 10.2% France 4.2% Japan 3.5% Italy 2.5% Seven Powers (total) (90.5%) The Problem with the actual 1.08 China will be solved with WAW possibilities. Really UK can only play defensive in China, trying to hold the Mountains. Anyway, if a Axis-Japanese Player invests too much in China, he will loose against Human anyway, cause China is definitely not the Strategic balancing factor for Japan, so better no to loose too much time as Axis, crimbling snowy chinese Mountains just to get the latest Chinese 5 MPP...._)
