  1. I like the idea of that, but at the kind of micro level we're talking about, I'd argue more than just battlefield experience in large battles should count. I mean, it's one thing to get a promotion because you took out a machinegun nest or something, but it's another thing entirely to actually lead your troops. And frankly, that's something I'd want modeled, even if it was just filler between the battles. For example, you're given a "Private X keeps losing his gear, do you A) beat him, sarcastically inform him that he needs to stop losing his stuff, C) help him look for it or D) show him how to secure his gear with 550 cord". The effects of your actions should have an effect in the next battle. If you beat Private X, his morale is gonna be crappy. If you help him, he might never improve. If you show him how to secure his stuff, he'll be ok. Besides that, little things like how you divide your time between the battle - rest, maintenance, rehearsal, patrols, etc. should all have an impact. If you spend most of your time sleeping, you'll have good morale and well rested soldiers, but if their weapons aren't clean or they haven't rehearsed their roles on the battlefield, they could be less effective. Stuff like that would matter at this level, I'd think. I've never played SL or ASL, but this is what I'd expect in a game like that.
  2. BFC has said that a Marine module is next up in the pipe.
  3. I was an Opfor augmentee there in '97 for a few months. One of the guys I work with was a PSG in D Coy 1/4 at the same time too.
  4. Are you really in the Army? There are so many things wrong with what you're saying that it makes me wonder. Have you been to basic yet?
  5. Whats going on in the world of TacOps? Is v5 still under construction?
  6. I ran the beta on my dual core with no problem whatsoever.
  7. Yeah, target command elements and heavy weapons with snipers. I usually put them on the highest building I can find.
  8. http://www.fileplanet.com/179354/170000/fileinfo/Combat-Mission:-Shock-Force-Demo Announced here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7251419#post7251419
  9. I've never noticed the wind either. Odd.
  10. I have a 7600 and the game runs fine for me.
  11. In the immortal words of Chopper Reid, harden the **** up, guys. Paradox is in Europe. BFC is in America. There's a time difference. Same reason why the Aussies have to wait till the 28th.
  12. ATGM Ambush is a tough scenario to crack.
  13. Yup, and they were defending the facilities and personnel that they were contracted to defend. I still don't see how that makes them mercenaries. I've never heard of Blackwater - or any other group - taking and kind of offensive action. Sure, they fire back, but that doesn't make them mercenaries. I highly suggest you hop over to militaryphotos.net for an education.
  14. Please name me an instance in Iraq where PMCs have been involved in offensive military action. They provide security for static installations, supply routes and individuals. This, basically, makes them security guards if anything.
  15. Yeah, but Blackwater (or any other PSD) doesn't conduct offensive operations. CMSF doesn't model the post-war environment.
  16. They aren't going to be in service for a long time - especially if the Marines cancel the EFV project.
  17. No, of course not. If you're a Syrian player going against an enemy unit with Javelins, proper tactics will help you negate the Javelin's advantage. A suppressed Javelin gunner is an ineffective Javelin gunner.
  18. There's no doubt that K-5 armor is pretty nifty, but even today only a tiny proportion of the Russian tank fleet (even the active, well funded tank fleet) has K-5. How many tanks in Chechnya have you seen with it? Fact is, it's waaaay too expensive to field it in any quantity. Always has been, and probably will be for years in the future. I imagine you'd only see it in expeditionary units (if the Russian KFOR mission is still going, and has tanks) or maybe if they ever start deploying full units of Naval Infantry again.
  19. I was on the "Rah-rah modern!" bandwagon from the start, and I feel pleasantly vindicated that so many fellow testers like the game as much as I do. As I've said all along, the Syrians aren't pushovers and the weapons and tactics used are in many ways comperable to WWII. The fundamentals you learn in the other CM games will do you well in CMSF.
  20. I pulled 'em off of militaryphotos.com, and presumably they pulled them off of army.mil. If you wouldn't mind resizing them, go ahead and post them yourself and i'll take them out of the first post.
