Bill, please check those file numbers again as there are many more than 40 files between 00082903 and 00090000. But you also said that your file counts is only 40 short so something is not right. Madmatt

Actually the majority of Mac users encountering an install fault usually can't get the installer to run at all. I will however ask Charles about posting the Data3 file though once he is up and about. The amount of Mac users with issues is VERY small though and we have another solution that will get them up and running much sooner. It sounds silly to ask, but I made the same mistake once. Are you sure you have both left and right channels on your speakers working? What you report sounds to me like one or the other may not be working or turned down too low. Might want to also check your volume settings and balance in Windows. Madmatt

Hmm, thats a good point about the time of day...I will nudge Charles and see if that can perhaps be added to the little info line in the QB purchase screen. The one problem would be if the game doesnt in fact "know" what its going to be until the map itself is built in the next step... I will let you know what Charles has to say on this. Madmatt

Scipio, Bumping your own thread is not good form. WE HEAR YOU!!!! I had asked Charles before about putting in the exact choice for those RANDOM settings. He had some weird code explanation of why he didnt want/couldn't do it. I think basically its not really important and after ten seconds in the map you can figure it out all out anyway. Madmatt

Actually, what happened is that in the PC version of the manual the old troubleshooting guide for CMBO was used for the Manual Installation section. This was before we knew we would have to compress the entire CD contents using Winrar. As stated above, you will need to use WinRar to manually install files from the CD. If you are using the 40.41 drivers you will need to either disable FSAA to see the text OR as Rune suggests, re-install the older drivers. The 40.41's are VERY troublesome and I recommend you stich with an earlier version. Madmatt

Actually, in order to be in the ADD/REMOVE list would require a Registry Entry and we have always tried to install our programs with a minimum of fuss. If you want to remove CMBB then just delete the entire directory. We would have liked to include a more elaborate Installer into CMBB but we simply had no room left on the CD to do so. For those of you that have CD's that won't install AT ALL, we are listening. What we dont want to do is send out a replacement CD which exhibits the exact same issue. Not until we have had time to look over everything and properly diagnose the scope and root cause of this issue. So far, the amount of people reporting the issue is actually very small, but we will not take any chances. Guys, lets not start snipping at others that are posting about what is obviously an incredibly frustrating experience. Having said that, I understand peoples anger, and we are doing everything we can to get this situaiton resolved. No one is going to have to lay down any more cash and everyone will get a fully working CD. The reality of the situation though is that this takes a little time to get set up properly. Thats what we are doing right now. Those downloadable files are just a temporary solution to allow some people to be able to play the game. Thats why this is workaround IS temporary. We will get you guys working CD's but we need to asses the full extent and scope (and root cause) of this issue before we can do that. For now, at least the majority of people reporting this issue (which thank God still seem the minority of people that have gotten the game) can download the files we have posted and play the game. First, I appreciate all the patience people have shown while we get through this issue. There appears to be a manufactoring fault with some of the PC CD images on CMBB orders placed BEFORE October 4th. The Installer will fail between 85%-99% of the installation procedure. With some CD drives there are no problems at all, with others the installation will fail. On the PC a failed installation will leave the game partially installed. Normally all the textures are installed along with the majority of sounds. None of the scenarios are installed. A Mac install failure will usually give a message indicating that a specific file is missing or corrupt. What we are doing as a temporary fix for the PC users is offering the remaining files for people to download and manually install which should allow them to run the game. There are three files that you can download. Two files are sound files and the other file is all the Scenarios and Operations. The sound files are Polish voices, if you never play with Polish troops you will NOT need to download these files in order to play. File 00090000to00092000.zip (10 megs)contains all the sounds files from 00090000.wav to 00092000.wav File 00092001to00094306.zip (11 megs) contains all the sounds files from 00092001.wav to 00094306.wav Depending on when the installer fails will determine if you need to apply one or both of those files. EVERYONE that encounters the installation issue will need the Scenarios.zip (1.2 Megs) file. For Mac users the amount of files left remaining is usually too high to make the files downloadable. Please see below for what we are doing. HOW TO APPLY THESE FILES. Unzip the sound files into the WAV folder to install the sound files. For the Scenarios.zip file you will need to first create a folder in your CMBB directory called "Scenarios", then unzip the contents into that new folder. CURRENT STATUS: If you have a bad disk which results in a installation failure (see below if you get CRC errors though), even if the files below work for you, I will need you to email me at matt@battlefront.com Please include your order number (if you have it) or the email address you used when you placed the order. We promise to do everything we can to make this right though. UPDATED INFO (10-13-2002) Some people have contacted me with regards to install issues with the CDV version in Europe. Other people with the Battlefront.com version have also emailed me with install errors, but of a slightly different sort. If you get a "unexpected end of archive" error when the game runs you may NOT have a defective CD. What can cause that is a conflict between a virus check program and games installer. In order to install the game you should FIRST disable any and all virus check programs. This includes Norton Anti-Virus, McAffe's and all other brands. Once the install is complete you can re-enable the virus check program as usual. Also, for CDV customer with problems, you MUST contact CDV Tech Support for assistance, even if you get a insaller failure. We can not provide you with a replacement CD, only CDV can. To date though, NO CDV CD's have encountered anything remotely similar to the manufactoring defect we saw on a very small amount of our CD's. Also of importance is that no orders placed after October 4th would have any chance of a CD with a manufacturing issue like that above. We received new stock at that time from a new manufactorer and no old stock has been shipped since. Again we thank you for your time. Update: The 00090000.wav files and beyond are the Polish sound samples so I am not too concerned about those if they dont get installed right now. It *seems* that everyone that is getting this error is getting it near the end of the Wave file install. This leaves some Polish voices and all the Scenarios uninstalled. I am emailing the Scenario files to all those that request them as a stop gap measure so people can at least play the game until we can arrange a permanent fix. It is still not clear if the problem is a CD image one or a WinRar Installer issue. Some people have said that the install will fail on one system yet work on another. We are working this issue with all our resources and will have more info for you about what we come up with soon! Madmatt

Okay guys we are still looking into this issue. I dont want things to get too confused here so here is some data. If the game is fully installed you will have the following folders and file amounts: 5847 files in the "BMP" folder 2324 files in the "WAV" folder 70 files in the "Scenarios" folder 2 files in the "OpenPlay Modules" folder As a stop gap measure, if you can still run the game, EVEN AFTER A FAILED INSTALL, but dont see any scenarios or folders then email me directly, include your order number (for a BFC order) and I will email you the 1.2 meg file which has all 70 scenarios and operations. That should at least get you up and running while we continue to investigate this problem and how to resolve it. If you bought the game from CDV or from a retail location in Europe you will need to contact them for support and/or a replacement CD.
