  1. How to run OS X on a PC Wow the OS X code has now be hacked for about a month From the link above there is downloadable version of OS X floating around on the internet undercurrent which has been cracked and released which will run on an intel PC because the "look for this APPLE only bit of hardware" code has been cracked and/or modded somehow. he he Now thats news to me -tom w
  2. A VERY similiar tutorial is included in my OTHER favourite game. SimCity 4.0 It will take you step by step through almost every control and every part of the interface. After you have played the tutorial once you then have a good feel for how to control and direct the game and it makes the user feel self confident and self reliant and NOT frustrated by the interface because the tutorial took control and stepped me through every phase of the game and almost every element of the user interface and the said: "Now go ahead... You are on your own you now know all you need to get and playing quickly and painlessly" (or something like that) -tom w
  3. My feeling is they won't be breaking and running individually due to the hit on the game engine to start to spawn NEW individual entities (even if they are out of the player's control) broken off from the main squad or team. But I could be wrong. -tom w [ September 23, 2005, 03:17 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  4. excellent post! and GREAT observations! Thanks! (I hope the BFC folks do in fact learn something of value from this thread.) We are all asking for a tutorial scenario that will teach us what we need to know about how the game (CMx2) works so we can learn it quickly and play it without the added frustration of trying to figure out the game system and the interface when things are not obvious. -tom w
  5. Just to cite a modern day (like last week) event: (or current news story) From CNN or the BBC news (pick one) So it happens I think everyone here agreed on that. -tom w
  6. And there I was thinking you were my friend..... oh well -tom w
  7. Great post! it probably deserves its own thread (but its more than at home right here) I agree completely there have been plenty of times when I wanted to area fire through smoke or as far as possible into the trees. I am wondering if there will be any change or solution to this issue or problem in CMx2. -tom w
  8. It sounded like a good idea to me as an optional module But if the module would not sell there would be no incentive to spend time and money developing it. I like the idea but I am not sure I would commit to buying the module. (unless it featured english speaking units that I could use in a title release like CMBB that was devoid of english speakers. ) -tom w
  9. Oh NO. Far fom it Mr Dorosh. I changed my signature line to improve the decorum and level of conversation to something positive and constructive. Now if you folks want to continue to rant and yell and scream at each other I know one thing for sure: I can't stop it, and I am only suggesting that the user agreement on this forum suggests that as a community we all try to embrace a style of dialogue and discourse that fosters the " exchange ideas in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere". Peace.. -tom w [ September 21, 2005, 06:56 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  10. Lets not forget the prime directive when we post...
  11. Now that must be welcome news to those that like operations... -tom w
  12. Ah I see Well as you can all see my latest revision to my Signature file has had NO impact what so ever on the decorum of this thread. oh well I tried (Never let it be said you did not do the Least you could do) (and it was the least I could do ) -tom w Tom, piss off. If this concerns you, we'll refer to you by name. </font>
  13. wow this thread is a little more highly charged than usual. What's left to discuss? Really? -tom w
  14. they keep saying winter 2006 .... (in which hemishere is open to interpretation.... ) but its hard to believe at this point originally it was "FOR SURE by the end of 2005" so said Moon.. and we were all betting on a Dec 31 2005 release (but then he got slapped around a bit I guess, because no one is claiming the first release of CMx2 will ship before Jan. 1 2006) -tom w [ September 21, 2005, 11:39 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  15. Great ! Did Steve just say they WILL now model cows (as LOF blocking MG sponges) in CMx2!?? Woo HOO! -tomw
  16. I agree I suspect it would only shorten the crunch time by % 5 to %15 which is not all that much because the length of the time to crunch (wait time for the computer) is dependant on your CPU speed, (and maybe RAM size). There may be no real incentive to write the game code to take advantage of dual processors IMO. Faster computers for this game really one offer one advantage, FASTER crunch times. As you may have noticed the movie plays out at the same time (1 Minute) on EVERY computer because no matter what speed it is because it is "just" a movie. But the crunch time to "script" the movie (wait time between turns) will VARY considerably based on computer CPU processing power (speed). Other than that you need a GOOD video card with LOTS of VRAM. -tom w [ September 20, 2005, 07:40 AM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  17. well my understanding from that was that both sides would have identical generic units like Tactics II But what do I know maybe I did in fact confuse the author's intent? -tom w
  18. maybe there are not very many posts about this topic because it is a very difficult thing to code into the game and so far in this thread you might say Steve is the only one here that really knows what's he talking about. And, ...most of us don't want to hear about it because we are looking for in game solutions that don't sound like "We can't do it" or "Its too hard to program" or "its too CPU intensive" or "It WILL kill your computer and the game and the game play and the crunch will be 20 - 90 MINUTES LONG to make it work" So... Looks like we will have to wait and see. I think ONE thing is for sure..... Steve IS aware of the problem and he knows exactly what we are aksing for. (I think ) -tom w [ September 19, 2005, 06:05 PM: Message edited by: aka_tom_w ]
  19. OK Ok ok..... LOL I fondly remember learning wargames starting with Tactics II (it was not that hard to learn and it was sort of fun to play mostly because we did not fight over the rules all the time ! ) So if CMBO was "like" squad leader (sort of) then maybe a module of CMx2 would have Tactics II "like" units in it on both sides.... Or not... (I will concede it might not sell all that well at all so there may not be much incentive for a venture like that or risking time to code it up EVEN it was just a module after the title was released.) -tom w
