1. Chad, David Aitken has said that he saves every turn of every game he plays. So you are not alone if this i something you like to do. And go back and watch the movies to learn. But why put your preference on the person you're playing. When downloading a PBEM file I can rename it anything I want. So if I was into saving every file for every game I could do that and send the person I am playing back a file that has one name and it remains that name throughout the battle. Maintaining my preference of having every file without imposing it on someone else.
2. OK...now we in my area of expertise. In my mind there are only 2 possible reasons to number PBEM files and 99% of my games they are not needed. Others may disagree but no one hs yet given me a rational other reason that can't be acomplished easier through other methods besides numbering file. The two reasons to number files are 1) you plan on writing an AAR after the game is done and you need to save each file to do it and 2)you are playing something like CMMC where other people will need various files. Other than that the numbering of files is useless. Just this morning I gutted out my PBEM file and it took me over a half hour and when I looked in my recyle bin it totaled over 15MBs!!! Drive space isn't the problem but clogging up my PBEM file with worthless junk is. Naming files different things as jshandorf mentioned was started as a joke and is actually worse than umbering files because it is harder to sort through them than the numbered files. You really only need to use a name like jshandorfvsElvis and keep writting over each file. Here are a few reasons people have given me for numbering files and I can dispell these before someone even tries to counter my comments. 1) "It's how I know whose turn it is." For the most part send my files back as soon as I see them so there isn't a question about whose turn it is because if I don't have a new email in my in box then it is my opponants turn. There are time when this gets messed up. Where perhaps I think I emailed the turn but didn't. It will usually be brought to my attention by the person I am playing and I simply open the game file I have. If it asks for my password then I play it and send it ..if it ask for my opponants password then I send them the file. There is nothing that numbering can do that will let me know that I have emailed it..all it wil tell me is that I numbered it. It takes slightly longr to check whose turn it is with this method but when weighted against the time involed with constantly cleaning out my PBEM file compared to the occational need to do this ..nonmubering wins. 2) "It helps if a filegets corrupted" There are probably very few people that have CM that have played more PBEM games than me. Going back to the beta demo I have NEVER had a corrupted file. I am taking about hundreds and hundreds of PBEM files exchanged. I have heard people say they have a corrupted file. If that happens ask your opponant to resend the file. If that is the bad one redownload the turn before from either players old email. The chances of having a corrupt file and not being able to retrieve the game another way are so close to 0 that I'll take my chances. 3) "Because that's what I do..deal wth it" That of course speaks for itself. I currently have 7 PBEMs going and this morning deleted over NINETY files!!!!! I had only emptied it 10 days ealier. With 7 PBEM games I need 7 PBEM files. Chad, do yousel a favor and don't even start numbering files. I could go on all night about this because it drives me crazy. So I will stop for now and go out and grab a beer. PS If you get a great movie file you want to save then rename it and save that one file.
3. [serious mode on] It seems I have upset the creator of the Blood Hamster between myself ad Goanna. He and Berli created a very cool looking scenario. I do not wsh to poil their dream. I have watched turns 1 and 2 and not plotted turn 3 yet. I will cease firing on the bridge. I have exposed myself in an effort to expose Goanna and I will pay the price for it so as to not insult mensh or Berli. I assume I still have a chance to win the game and am happy to continue. [serious mode off]
4. "Freedom Bridge" still stands. I just mailed off turn 2 and the bridge still stands. If the good lizard does not want me to blow it then he better get moving fast to stop me. Since everyone else saw fit to break FOW I guess I will a little. Turn 1 had one large gun firing on the bridge with area fire. Turn 2 had 2 large guns firing area fire at mid turn one of the guns switched to a jucier target. Guns are very easy to knock out folks. I hope that Mr. Lizardo has not thrown in towel and decided because I spent a couple turns shooting at the bridge and messing up his original plan that he has no way or chance to stop me. I think the problem is that stopping me will come with a price..and that is exposing his units sooner than he wants to. So there is the predicament I have placed him in....expose himself quickly to try to stop me or let me blow the bridge go down without a fight.
quote:
We have had better weather and our Fly boys have been giving the Jerries a pounding on both sides of the pocket, but now with this overcast weather and Information from Arial photos it does appear the Jerries are massing a very large force with Armour support. Battalion strength or more. Hold fast! -Mission- You hold the Freedom Bridge as the Germans are calling it; you have held off repeated attacks by German forces from the east and your orders STILL stand and hold the bridge.

I read that as DO NOT LET THE GERMANS GET THE BRIDGE. I did not read that as the bridge must stand. I have other reasons for blowing it but I don't have Seanachi kinda time to sit and type them all at this time. Gamey?....perhaps.
5.
quote:
Could you translate ******* and ****** ?

No. Not at this time.
6. UH OH!!!!! The Lizardgirl has written me in response to the first turn (which I have not seen yet) and had this to say about it. "******* the ****** will be the gamiest fuc*** move of all time. Brilliant." This quote has been edited.
7. OK..There has been no reply to my earlier question so I will make my statement now anyway. In my Blood Hamster game I am starting by performing what some people might consider a gamey move. I will not go into the details yet as the Lizardgirl may not be aware of it yet and don't want to blow FOW. When I do announce it I will also provide my tactical non gamey reasons for using the tactics that I have chosen. IF this battle is not set up as I anticipate then I could be shooting myself in the foot anyway...but I suspect that is not the case.
8. From what I understand Germanboy is not actually playing CM these days...but he is DEEPLY invovled in CMMC. Plus I have seen him post from time to time in the outer boards.
9. I am going to post something very shortly about my Blood Hamster vs Lizardboy. Before I do I need someone to tell me the purpose of a Blood Hamster.
10. lcm1947, I don't know if you were around during the beta demo release but a bunch of us played the same 3 scenarios over and over and over and over (I think you get the idea). Because of that I found nothing is more thrilling than the tension of not knowing what is coming at you.
11. Viceroy, you shouldn't do it even with premission. Even with his blessing your are cheating yourself out of one of the most fun aspects of CM.
12. Mark I agree with you of course for several reasons including but not limited to "because Shaw has the opposite point of view" and Simon Fox has been pissing people off on this board almost as long as I have. He had several memorable bouts with Fionn and (my favorite which I have told him before) when he basically told the entire board they were crybabies and the game will be out when it's out so everyone quit crying.
13.
quote:
Ahhh Elvis, what turn number would that be. Was it "Youragameybatard" or the liting and haunting "Surethinglollipop" Hmmmmmm?

How bout the last one you played. The turn before that is not needed by me for us to continue forward in our game...only the most recent turn is needed. Thank you. Lizardboy, I am almost at the point of sendig the units selection blindly without seeing the map. My blood lust is boiling over.
14. "Print screen" key and "paste" as a "Word" doc.
15. Since Markymark felcompelled to give updates I guess I should do the same. Lawyer: Too early to tell as there has been no contact with our units yet and sends files at a fairly slow speed. I think I have gotten him off of numbering for this game and am quite happy about it. jdmorse : A humdinger of a game. Loads of fun even if I lose but now that I have found his crying in the woods soon to be dead units I doubt that I will. We switched to taunting renaing filesa while ago which is just as bad as numbering files (begun by MarkIV and myself). I haven't goten a file from him in a couple of days so maybe he's busy (jd..last received from you 7/23 last sent to you 7/24). Lorak : We are playing a clown game that either Berli or Meeks made. We started it so long ago that I forget. Lots of my troops died last turn but that was doneto confuse you. Now I have you right where I think I want you in this silly affair. Mr. Lorak has sitched over to non-numbering and I thank him. LEON : Our neat little game should begood pratice for my uncoming Blood Hamster. Soon to be stripped of all your armor your infantry should fall quickly after that. Started without numbering and have continued that way. Lizardboy : I think I am waiting to see the map for our Blood Hamster. HAving never done one I am not sure if you see the map before selecting the unts. I have selected units already but thought I would wait to see if I get a peek at the map. We will not be numbering our files as my rule of engagement stands for any and all games I will ever play outside of CMMC. That's about it....Hey at least I didn't bring up numbring turns this time.
16. Ths just in...... Elvis has lost a game..... That's right ..no need to adjust your monitors.. Stuka : Win in the most glorious of styles Elvis : Lose but went down fighting.
17. Stuka, My gut feeling at this time is that the game will end in a draw. If it does you should count that as a victory for yourself. The TCP/IP thing was very frustrating because I play many many games that way and though I do have problems from time to time I don't have the problem we had last night. When a game is played straight through via TCP/IP there is nothing like it. And did I mention that I don't understand why everyone feels the need to number turns?
18. Seanachai, can't you make your posts shorter? I can't read all that gibberish..perhaps if you numbered it.
