  1. Are we talking about the same thing? Isn't Darkest Hours a westfront mod? Wasn't too big a fan of the mod on release. Most maps I tried just didn't play well at all. I'll give it another go. Thanks!
  2. Hah! At this point, I reckon the kids have dropped out of school and moved out to avoid doing chores. And frankly, they look suspiciously like the milkman. Four years is a bit long to stay hyped about a game.
  3. Feed "Historical software" to the google monster and find out.
  4. You'll know better then me about parachutes, though I remember hearing that BASE jumpers have their own special parachutes. Not really much point going for the reserve chute at the heights they jump from. Look, I don't have a solid explanation that covers all the bases, as I admitted in my previous post, but what I'm seeing in that movie is making me very weary of taking it on face value. Maybe I've read one too many Kettler threads but something seems very fishy to me.
  5. If you watch carefully, both guys seem to have backpacks or some such on. When the second guy hangs from the crane, look at his back as he swings and looks forward. On a number of occasions you'll see something poking out on his back. Notice also the desire to film the building opposite whenever the two guys move around. Clear, pre-planned editing points. Seemingly they never wanted us to see everything. So, if you are hiding things, how hard would it be to wear the straps of the chute underneath your clothes? Also, why is the first guy wearing a pack? You'd want that thing off your shoulders if you were doing this sort of thing. Give it to one of your mates or put it someplace. Not like someone is going to steal it up there! So why wear it? Because you have a reason to wear it. One hole in my theory which I can't readily explain though. Those last few seconds, the dude climbing back on. I offer no explanation for that.
  6. You'd better hope it wasn't trained to remove kidneys. This is my cat Oliver I tried to make him growl and show his teeth, but he couldn't care less what his human gets up to. It loves to hang around near me all the time, which is really cute. This means his favourite spots are on, above, in front or to the sides of my monitor. *blush* Sadly my camera phone picks up a lot of interference and and thus I can't get a decent picture of his many amusing poses.
  7. What movement order do you give for this charge? I'm asking because I do not recognize your complaint. Such assaults should indeed be like taking candy from a baby, and usually are for me. Mind you, if it's a really good quality gun crew they'll stick with their gun surprisingly long. Best have your squads positioned around the gun for optimal results.
  8. Phah! I was looking at the replies. Hadn't thought about the fact that post are numbered now.
  9. I think the experience gain has been massively valuable for grunts, NCOs and Officers in particular. Artillery, armoured vehicles and aircraft though would do well to first unlearn some of the bad habits you get that work well in COIN but get you killed in a conventional war against any semi-competent opponent. In particular helicopters should learn to be afraid again, I reckon.
  10. The B1-B is favoured for it's long loiter time. There's good odds there's one overhead when you need it. Hence a minimal wait. Also, a 2000lb bomb dropped by B1-Bs is more sociable and made lots of friends.
  11. FWIW the B-1B is used extensively in Afghanistan in the CAS role. Though in a conflict with Syria they probably be too busy with other stuff.
  12. If the Kiwis can't be bothered to defend their nation, what good do you Ozzies think it'll do you to take it from them? Clearly not worth the effort. Not worth the effort if it were no effort at all. Begs a serious question though. With zilch army to speak of, how do the NZSAS get their peeps? Kinda hard learning to ride the SAS bicycle without having the regular army training wheels first, isn't it?
  13. I'm here to complain about the substandard wanking by Elvis. It can be done so much better. Observe: Clicky
  14. The rumour has it that 2k Boston has been working on a X-COM title.
  15. Jagged Alliance 2? Rather liked that too. I liked Silent Storm a lot too, right up to the fooking Panzerkleins. (can be modded out) Been months since I last played the original X-COM. I used to play fairly regular. I hope they don't try to re-invent the wheel.
  16. So the space counts too. Interesting. Below testing confirms: Elvis lives! He'll be ever so happy.
  17. Increased max unit size back to 250. And four focussed (mini) campaigns. A reputedly lame Native American one, and rather well received campaigns around the Eastern Crusades (Teutones v Poland, Lithuania etc), Crusades and Britain. Maybe more stuff too. I haven't got it but that's more my money situation. Very interested in Empire TW too. Looks like they are pulling out the stops on the naval aspect. And since there really isn't a decent fighting sail simulation these days, that's more temptation then I can resist. Hope the landbased AI is a bit better then M2TW though. Just caught the latest trailer. It looks absolutely sick, so I could take some suckage for granted no problem. Histwar will be on my list to make up for the Lite nature of ETW. The rumour about a new X-COM game will be closely followed. Otherwise there ain't much on my radar.
