  1. Pah, you didn't deserve anything less. Btw I couldn't find the Counterglow article about CM. Could anyone point me directly to it, if it's dubbed interesting by BFC I definitly want to take a peek.
  2. Well I just followed Gordons instructions and they work a treat (as if there was any chance it wouldn't). The invisibility of the end of the breech block is hardly notice-able, you really have to be looking for it. The flash suppresor like shape is less notable if you half the cone-shape. It comes close to simulating the muzzle ring. Or omit the cone shape entirely, whatever has your preference.
  3. Oh don't worry I wasn't planning to thank you. Oh allright then. Thanks Gordon!
  4. Paint out the muzzle brake with pink (transparent) colour. </font>
  5. By drat I want an unmuzzled barrel. I have still to decide wether I'm giving up on trying to display an early war 25pdr or give up on it and install this mod. Which is beautiful.
  6. The monkeys are being supplied with new grease and won't be able to come round, thanks all the same.
  7. Personally I don't see the point of the winter mod for CMAK. Not all that much fighting in snow done in the Med. I would be far more pleased if the modders all decided to change all snow to extreme muddiness. And made extra muddy vehicles to match. Basically taking out the snow and replacing it with mud graphically. That would be good.
  8. It's my firm believe that the Wicked Witch of the West is renting her flying monkeys as Combat Mission airmen.
  9. I myself have single player CMAK and CMBB campaigns running using the Allied General engine. Great fun. But Risk is definitly something I should look into. Less complicated and more scope for combined arms wich is both a shortcoming and main attraction of my AG campaigns.
  10. For a tournament look at the ROW IV tournament but expect a lot of pushing and shoving to get in. For an opponent, here check out the IRC you find there to. [ January 20, 2004, 11:12 AM: Message edited by: Elmar Bijlsma ]
  11. My grandfather from my mothers side of the family was German and was put in a work camp in Southern Germany for being in a resistance group. He survived and moved to Holland directly after being liberated. My grandfather from my dad's side of the family was a poacher and kept away from getting involved in the war. However he encountered a patrol of a NSB-collaborator and a German soldier while poaching and shot them both. Also a great-uncle from my mothers side who served in the Wehrmacht as a butcher. He was stationed in Stalingrad but was evacuated out because his CO saw little point in him stil being there when it got bad. He was later shot at the east front and was invalided home to Kiel and continued his butcher trade til wars end.

  14. I've sen things similar to this too. Stationary flak spots targets miles off but vehicle mounted flak has problems aquiring planes. They often are late in reacting to aproaching planes and drop targeting every now and again despite LOS. Is this the limited vehicle LOS being used instead of an all round flak LOS?
  15. Big fan of Total War myself. 1) A good idea though I always turn this option off because while it is a crummy way to simulate LOS (nice addition for CM LOS, though) it get's in the way of navigating between dispered units. You can't scroll the map to a unit a bit further along the line. So you'd have to click o it on the map which is not always possible or you have to find the unit you want in a list. I often got units mixed up and got disorientated as the camera went haring off in a different direction. 2)Not practical yet. The men are as of yet still 2D in Total War though Rome Total War will be using 3d models, so graphically it's doable. However the behaviour demanded of a block of pikemen is different from that of a squad of riflemen. If my platoons of Paras would line up in 6 deep rows I'll hang myself from my mouse cord. The CC series almost got it right but had relativly simple terrain. GI and EYSA got infantry AI badly wrong and suffered from this. If I order my platoon sergeant into a house and the rest of the unit stands outside smoking a fag I'll cry.
  16. Thanks YD, I've seen a few short descriptions of it before saying it was pretty good and innovative. I wondered why it remained fairly rare. A "Jack of all trades, master of none" thing, then.
  17. I took a look at the GHQ site and look here. If GHQ can do them, why not BFC? Things I wanted in CMAK. HINT! It isn't the Zuiho. So okay the Digger Hat wasn't worn in action much. Still wanted it in though. But I still don't get the omission of Sikh infantry models. And look, a Canuckian supplement for Grog Dorosh and scenario designers maybe? I wish I could find a mail order shop who stocks GHQ and accepts Euros though. It's pathetic but I can really see myself crawling across the floor moving those tiny tanks about. However great CMAK is, there is something about having stuff to fiddle around with by hand.
  18. very non grog of me but the FG42 is the thing to have in CoD. How did they perform in RL?
  19. But it does raise a question. What is CMX2 going to be? Most of us automatically assumed it was going to be a WW2/Korea/whatever game. But BFC nevwer said. They long ago said they were interested in doing Napoleonics and ACW games aswell, but when people talk about CMX2 it is automatically assumed it's going to be an improved CM engine. When, if ever, will BFC get around to making these Nappy/ACW games? I agree with TinyTanker, whatever they get up to chances are I will enjoy it.
  20. Remember that there is a bit of a fudge in CM about what the sharpshooter does when he fires. While it is clearly portrayed that as he fires it is a single shot, a look at his ammo load out indicates that indeed he too has his firepower abstracted. A sniper carrying only 10 or so rounds (as they do in CM) would be a wimp indeed. You'd expect him to carry about 50 rounds. Thus a single shot represents not a single round being fired but represents an effort to kill a target with 5 or so rounds. The time that CM allows for this to take place is clearly too short. I'm told it's even possible to kill more than one person with each 'shot' but I've never seen it.
  21. Better optics sway the odds in your favour, they do not magically give you victory.
  22. And I understand they remained in service in Asia for the duration.
