  1. I have the BFG 6800GT OC and love it. It comes overclocked and with a lifetime warranty. I have had no issues witht he card. Mine is the 8X AGP version. Rune
  2. Sir 37mm You have our condolences...being trained by Boo is like being trained at a circus, but without the treats. Not that there is anything wrong with that mind you. If you really want to get under the crusty epidermal layer infected with pox that Boo calls skin, may I suggest that you mention that he and Michael Emrys have never been spotted in the same place, and that indeed, they are one and the same person. Also mention that NO ONE else has a problem getting on a test server but him, that he has the computer skills of Seanachai during a drunken time. Speaking of the little gnome, hey gnome, I have two bottles of Scotch sent to me by Winecape, both excellent single malts, one being 10 years of age and the other 18. Just thought I would mention it since I am in Chicago, and you are not. [And they said the border guards would never work]. Rune [ July 29, 2005, 06:58 AM: Message edited by: rune ]
  3. Admiral, You know you have my thanks. Hopefully the new job isn't over-whelming and you can get to do other projects. Thanks again for all your hard work. Rune
  4. In hindsight, yeah, mix in terrains, altho that would slow infantry down too much. I would have mixed in soft terrain. Remember, this was before game release. Never thought even in testing that being honourable would be an issue. having used the false briefing only occasionally, I went with being honest. We live and learn. As for CMX2, i have a list of suggestions from scenario designers from threads like this for when the time comes. A lot won't be in, as the engine changes things too much, and old problems just don't exist anymore. However, I still have a list of everyone's suggestions, and the guys will tell you I don't let them forget that. i want a lot more options as a scenario designer, from terrain to reinforcement slots and triggers, to different objective flags for each side, to other things I can't mention that will be in. The moer choices we have in the editor, the happier I will be. In another thread, someone asked if Dan is working on objects. I will leak this...yes he is...and he far surpasses anything he has done earlier. You ain't seen nothing yet... Rune
  5. Grapeshot, You assume opening the code would be easy. It isn't. The amount of time and amount of work to enter new stuff in CM is one of the big reasons to go to the new engine, where that will no longer be an issue. With the new engine be open? No. Steve already publically stated no. Make a new engine, allow anyone to create anything, then put themselves out of buisness. Along with that, people trying to hack the game to gain an advantage, etc, and you defeated what you were trying to do, which is a fun, multi-player game, while making enough to go on to the next game. Rune
  6. Actually it is CMPW. yes, Combat Mission Peng vs the Wafflers. Oh wait, mikeyD already mentioned that under the alternate title. Rune
  7. Mike, My point exactly. Deep mud and mud the chance was too high. This was determined in play testing [oh yeah, forgot that didn't happen] All I can do [remember this scenario was made before the game was even released] is give guidelines. As I stated in an earlier post, had it been read, feel free to change it to mud. I didn't, because 1. I assumed players would be honorable. 2. I didn't want to restrict the tanks from doing something they were historically able to do. If you look at the date I posted that, Jan of 2004, you see I said that. I guess I should of made fighter bombers in the rain, with trps on the roads and restrict the Germans to the roads. You could have sat back and watched the artillery just destroy the Germans. Then the British, in an act of sportsmanship, could let the Germans walk in and take the factory, since it actually did change hands several times. Like I also said earlier, I got people saying they want it more historical and people wanting restrictions that did not exist. [shrugs] Not all for naught, as the idea on a new way of bogging came out of it, and when the time comes, I will push for it in CMX2. Rune
  8. For those of you that can read, what I had said was: " During that battle, due to the rain and the sandy terrain [not mud], yes, the tanks tried to stay on the roads. Unfortunately, we do not have a sandy/dirt terrain, so used wet. So, to answer, mainly the tanks stayed on the roads, but also could and did move offroad on occasion. It is in the briefing to stay on the roads, and most players do try to stay their with small exceptions." Not the made-up comment above. Changing the terrain to deep mud would prevent the times they did move off road. We have a veteran's account mentioning they did move off the road on occasion. Rune
  9. To quote Steve on what has been said publically: I'm really not here to introduce new information, but I will remind people of stuff we've already said will be in CMx2 [smile] Specifically, 1:1 man representation and terrain graphics which are based on much smaller "tile" sizes. Significantly smaller tile size was simply not possible back when CM was originally coded. Tile size is the root cause for pretty much all the "shortcomings" noted about the graphical representations over the past 5 years. With the new system (which basically doesn't use tiles at all) all sorts of things have changed. However, because CMx2 games won't contain hand crafted scenarios (like other games, especially FPS types) there will still be a bit of generic feel to individual objects. The only way to avoid that is to eliminate Quick Battles and the Editor, which I am sure you guys don't want [smile] other then that, not at liberty to say. Rune
  10. There are no tiles, and there will NOT be an editor in a demo. Rune
  11. Blue, READ will you? I said you will find him on a 17lber, but in real life he was an ARTILLERY man. I coule have made him a spotter, but put him on the 17lber. His son's quote on a response is posted in an earlier message I posted. Your second comment, let's see, stuck in mud at Leningrad, stuck in mud trying to relieve the pocket in Russia. Why look, there is a book called Tigers in the Mud. Look here, oh look, a tiger in mud. Modern tanks that cost more risk and get stuck in mud constantly. It is a calculated risk. Am done with this. Rune Tiger in mud
  12. 1. It is irrelevant that a veteran AT THE BATTLE, said it was in effect at the time? It is irrelevant that a veteran AT THE BATTLE mentions that tanks moving off road? 2. I never said it was balanced. READ will you? I specifically said it isn't balanced for two player. 3. AGAIN for the fourth time, the ground conditions as reported in battles reports is soggy sandy soil. NOT MUD. 4. Last time, TRPs grant almost instant strikes with accuaracy. While accusracy would be wanted, the shortened time for the strikes would be NOT historical. How do we know that? A veteran [everyone together now] AT THE BATTLE, AN ARTILLERY MAN, said it WAS timed delayed as it had to be granted ok. From FIRST call in till strikes is three minutes not the 5 you invented. 3 minutes to go up the chain of command, be granted permission, then fired and hittign target may STILL be too fast. Am done with this thread. I guess I am being unreasonable when I based a scenario on facts and not what someone thinks happened. Silly me, after action reports, official reports, and veteran accounts HAVE to be wrong. Rune [ July 12, 2005, 06:37 AM: Message edited by: rune ]
  13. Trying to find out why the British FOOs had that restriction on them, at first I thought maybe ammo restrictions, but was wrong. I found this: Source: The British Armies in World War Two An Organizational History Volume Two Polish, Australian, Canadian, South African and Indian Armoured and Cavalry Divisions British Regular Infantry Divisions by David Hughes James Broshot and Alan Philson Page 56 "In addition it required higher authority, often a Brigade Commander to allow a Defensive Fire or DF barrage to be fired, This was because the DF was unusual in the British Army in being fully pre-registered, that the guns could laid on a target without firing any ranging shots. Not being stupid, the German patrols would often probe the lines hoping to trigger a DF and thereby find out what areas an attacking unit should avoid. Hence the unusual restriction placed on the observers." So I did not choose a trp because of the artillery being too responsive. However if we had one that did not shorten the time lenght, but did allow better aim, I could of used it. However, since it doesn't exist in CMAK, we do with what we got. Rune
  14. Again, if you read the briefing, it was the first counter attack that did occur during the rain. There was NO airstrikes during this part of the battle. This is NOT an operation that covers multiple days, but a single battle from the overall battle. The British took the town on the 25th and the first counter-attack occurred during the 26th. There was NOT deep mud there. Terrain was sandy, and the tanks did move off the road. They wanted the road junction becuase road travel is much easier then overland travel, especially in the rain. How do I know this? How about I chatted with a veteran of the battle, you can find him on one of the 17 lber crews. I will go with the veteran's account thank you very much. We discussed a lot INCLUDING artillery since he served with the artillery there. If the scenario need air to even it out, tell me, how did those players win as British? Oh yeah, in any of the messages where did I say roads were not important? Matter of fact, I state the Germans should stick to the roads, with an occasional going off. Artillery comments, where do you find any spotter with a 5 minute time? 3 miinutes at most without TRPs. For some reason, the Brigade Commander had to authorize any Defensive Fire Missions. [Remember, I talked to a veteran] I have no idea why this varied from standard practice of the British FOO, who could order at any time. A trp would allow almost instant firing, which also would NOT be historically correct. Rune
  15. I just finished a scenario based on the fighting at Mount Battaglia, better known as Battle Mountain. It now needs play testing, and if you choose to play it, feedback is required. A massive map and 60 turn time, so not for the faint of heart. 3500 points. Email me if you are interested in testing it. Here is the briefing: Title: Battle Mountain Type: Axis Assault Date: September 28th, 1944 Location: Mount Battaglia Region: Italy Weather: Dusk, Overcast, Mountain Terrain: Dirt Wind: Breeze from the ENE Turns: 60+ Best Played as: Best played as Allied Single Player or Experienced player as Americans Author: Tim 'Rune' Orosz Background: The 88th Infantry Division [Known as the Blue Devils] had seen combat since Feb. 1944 almost non-stop. Their part in the Gothic Line attack took them towards three mountains vital to the German position, Mount Battaglia, Mount Grande, and Mount Capello. Rain, mud, and slime slowed the advance, and the Germans thought the weather conditions on the mountain tops and passes would keep the Allies from operating, but they were wrong. On the night of 27 September 1944, led by Italian Partisans, the 350th Infantry Regiment took Mount Battaglia without a shot being fired. The German High Command upon learning that the high point of the area was within Allied hands, ordered parts of 4 divisions to seize the mountain back "at all costs", since they mountain overlooked a vital crossroad. Unknown to the 350th, the attacks on the flanks had not succeeded. With the exception of a small cart trail leading to friendly lines, the 350th was surrounded. As the Americans prepared their positions as best as they could, the elite 1st Fallschimjäger Division (the defenders of Monte Cassino earlier in the year) prepared for their assault, on the Mountain soon to be nicknamed "Battle Mountain". 16. I have taken time out of my busy schedule to create a new scenario for your playing pleasure. It is a true battle, based on the fighting at Mount Battaglia, An all infantry battle, may it cause you intense pain. If you choose to play it, feedback IS required. Rune
  17. Gunz, Save ya a trip to LA, am in Chicago, so come on up. I'll check with Moon and matt and see what is up. Rune
  18. I know the brits took the South flank of the mountain a few days later and eventually replaced the 88th Infantry Division on the mountain after the 20 counter-attacks by the Germans. I swear I remember something about battaglia, so wasn't sure if this had been done before. Rune
  19. Not that I care anymore, but if you read my first post, oh look, it was tested both single player both sides and two player. Secondly, the attack takes place in the rain. Air support did NOT occur during rain storms. Third, again if you had bothered to read, it was sandy terrain. tanks DID go off road, to make it deep mud would restrict the Axis in a way that did NOT happen in real life. if you didn't follow the briefing, who is at fault, you or me? Last, unfair? Let's look at band of brothers. Outcome Another result. Rune
  20. Because they are not the same [protocol is], and timings issues can occur. trust me, it was worked on by the programmers, and the multi-player code is being worked on as I type this. Rune
  21. Looking at Mt. Battaglia in Italy, a desperate fight. Got some good web resources, but not sure if anyone has done this one before? Has it been done? Jon, also want to get started on that NZ scenario we talked about, need the maps, or if you don't remember, will send a email when I get home from work. Rune
  22. Winecape, I could go out and buy a nice AMD X2 system with the SLI to test for you. please send the money ASAP so I can begin testing. Shouldn't be more then 3000.00 Rune
  23. Hull down means the hull cannot be shot, as the surrounding terrain is blocking it, but the turret is above the blocking terrain and can still turn and fire. the reason you want this, it you are now a much smaller target, the hull cannot be hit, only the turret can. using the natural terrain or digging a berm in front of you to hide the hull are both common ways of going hull down.
