  1. Ride the arty out. If you get hit dodge it if you're on the edge of it, stop if not. It won't last forever and your men can recover. Don't go into trees, stay in the rough or the rocks and advance with bounds. If I'm moving a platoon forward, I let my most experienced squad move first, then others with the platoon leader moving the same time as a squad closer to the enemy and the last guy advancing into the next turn. It takes a few seconds to acquire a target. So you want to spread the hurt over your whole platoon. By the time the 1st squad are getting shot at you want them to be stopped, then the 2nd squad will get shot at just as they are stopping OR the leader will be getting shot, then the last guy should still be advancing over the 60s limit, that way they get shot at in the beginning of the next turn just as they stop, and the 1st squad take their turn. If you do this with a whole company you can advance ~50m/turn without getting too tired or too shot up. Also, squads spot the enemy a lot better when they're stopped so it gives you a chance to spot and fire with non-pinned squads. Anything you see, kill with overwatch.
  2. Kingfish, I played this with Bigduke6. We were constanly feeling like we were as close to real life as CM can get, due to the size of the map the units involved and the game being with CM limitations (no fog etc). I'd like to review this but can't find it at TPG. Do you have a direct link?
  3. Well I never actually said but for background info I will inform you all now. I only started playing about 3 weeks ago now, I was playing as Germans and Soviets and getting nowhere fast,I decided to concentrate on one side while learning and picked the Soviets. It was after making that chioce that I heard that the Soviets were unfairly represented and the Germans were much better so I thought I would ask here. I am now playing PBEM games with various people and So far have only won a game against the Computer with the Soviets. Much to learn and very eager to beat my German opponents. Cheers all. </font>
  4. In AK the Vickers jams as much as the MG42, even outside the desert. I can't imagine the justification for this.
  5. Did you use cover armor arcs? Use them to concentrate the commanders minds on a specific area.
  6. That's dentists for you, always down in the mouth.
  7. Squishing was sideways, crushing was up and down. Never had crushing/squishing fights? "I'm crushing your head." "No! I'm squishing your head".
  8. Even if you had to cross 300 meters of open ground? 4 MG42 LMGs would ruin anyone's day, even if it were a 16-yr old conscript pulling the trigger. </font>
  9. Only until the Soviets had time to stop throwing men at the situation. Give me a '45 Guards SMG platoon against '45 Volkstrum any day. How does this tally with all the tales of Russian peasants being "of the land" and shooting brilliantly? The rifleman on the ground? AFAICT, the Soviet army had *less* red tape than any other army. How many times have you read "We bumped into a Lt from the Scouts who asked us if we wanted to be scouts. We said 'yes' and he said 'now you are'" Doubtless there were times in the initial invasion where stored arms and ammo didn't act as it should but don't take that as usual. They had some of the best small arms on the planet by the end of the war. And they had a LOT of them.
  10. No one I've played plays Infantry only QB's. And as soon as the Germans get 80mm front StuG's, that's what the battle's about. And they get them all the time.
  11. TBH, I'm unaware of the debate you raise. Do you mean within the Soviet staff or from historians?
  12. While I love a massive tank fest as much as the next man, the idea that you'd abandon a prepared gun line for an attack on a concentrated enemy is nonsense, as consistently proved by the British in NA, pre-Monty. If the idea is to prove that the Germans in 1942 were far superior to the Soviets at manouver warfare, it is a bit redundant as it is not, AFAIK, in doubt. The Soviets themselves knew this - that's why they built the massive trap that was Kursk.
  13. They have the taste for HUMAN VIRGIN. We're allll dooomed.
  14. I'd play it. Loving "Villas of Tuscany" BTW.
  15. That's quite surprising given the British penchant for naming everything.
  16. You can use it with hotmail/gmail etc, just the same as with a POP account as long as the .PBM extension is registered to PBEMH. Which it does when it installs.
  17. Use it like a Wolverine and your opponent will hate you
  18. Can't help, sorry. But I hope some kind of PBEM helper is included (along with PBEM, natch) and even a "trusted" mode.
  19. They're integrated in the later models. More damage resistant, more accurate at range but they suffer from heat build up. You need to shoot-n-scoot from multiple angles until you see the antenae start to curl, then move in. The carapace is "rounded" so you still need some luck but you've got a couple of minutes. ...starting to think the SLOD idea might actually work. But then the insomnia is biting tonight. I'd maim to know what the "one thing" is. PBEM?
  20. I'd be more than happy to pay $20 or so for a patch that included all of this. They could set it up easily one would think. Like how people have ordered SC2 digitally I'm sure the same could be done for a patch. I think this would be something easily fixed, like I can't imagine it would take more than a couple of months to put all of this on a patch. It would be easy money. Hopefully an admin is taking note and is thinking of doing something like this, maybe in time for the CMC release. </font>
  21. I meant hit your own units with smoke, you then get 360 degree concealment. All it takes is a couple of minutes if they're not far down the morale slope. Still, I learned a word - dyads. The day's not wasted.
