  1. Deleting individual threads before the migration was impractical. Deleting the GF was a one-click affair. Also, in terms of space saved, all the Pend threads combined do not take up even close to the space that the GF does (or, well, did).

To be honest, personally I couldn't care less if we removed the Peng threads or even prohibited them in the future, so *maybe* we'll do just that the next time we need to do some cleanups...

  2. Yes, the General Discussion forum is purged periodically. By definition it's an off-topic forum so nothing valuable is lost. The main reason for the purge is to reduce the size of the forum. The last time it happened we did it so we could migrate the forum over to our new forum database. The choice was to either delete the GF or to not migrate ANY threads.

  3. BTW, I have added the abbreviations SAW, LMG, LSW, T34" to the list of "exceptions" that can be set in vBB, which (should) make sure that these words are indexed regardless of other limitations. Re-indexing is being done periodically so eventually these should begin returning results. However, with such a huge forum as we have, anything with regard to search is a "shot in the dark" at best. The UBB search functions for example were basically not working right for years despite what you guys seem to think ;)

  4. Hmm, looks like one forum where I see it is at 3.8. Bummer. Hey upgrade fun :) You don't have anything better to do, right? :D

BTW, is there a switch to maybe set the minimum length for words in a search to 3 or 2 characters? For us tankheads that would be very useful.

There is a bunch of reasons why we do not want to upgrade at this point.

Yes, there is a switch that allows to set the number of minimum characters to search for. It's set to 3 at the moment (and has been for a while).

  5. Well there already is a opponent finder forum(which nobody uses) and another forum for discussions about tactics. But was just thinking about the MP lobby thats been discussed in the past, I think back before CMSF launched. So what's the latest on this BF?

This MP lobby or MP interface could of course be for all BF games, not just CMx1 and CMx2 games.

Yes, an MP lobby, PBEM helper, opponent finder tool etc. are all going to part of our Battlefront Toolbar, and it will be for all of our games, not just CM. However, this is a MASSIVE project so it takes time to complete.

  6. Image of a cd only in a jewel case, still can't see it.

Next to an image of a DVD case and British Forces insert this is stated

You can download and play immediately! Hardgoods - consisting of a CD - will be mailed out within 2 weeks.

No image or mention of a jewel case.

You mean a picture is worth more than a 1000 words? :)

No reason to expect anything other than the DVD style packaging and cd similar to the Marines module which to be fair is a quality product.

You mean no reason other than that it isn't mentioned? :)

To Moon, I will not unlicence the downloaded game I paid for but I will gladly return the hardgoods that were misrepresented for a refund of the $10 & $20 S&H.

As you know, we have a no refund policy. You agree to and accept this policy before each purchase. This no refund policy includes partial refunds. We do make exceptions, rarely, but it does happen from time to time. If we do it at all, it usually includes a store coupon for a future purchase but certainly not cash back in hand.

The right way to go about obtaining a refund/coupon if you're unhappy with something is to contact us at the helpdesk or one of the other contact links and ask. For reasonable requests there is usually one way or another to work something out.

  7. While Id like to point out that I dont agree with it, the guys initial disappointment was that all he received by mail was a disk in a crappy jewel case that 'He' could have burned himself.

He then stated that this was not what was received when the Marines module was ordered in hard copy.

"The guy" wasn't joebloggs, as he mentioned in another thread that he has not yet received his hardgoods. It was someone else.

As far as I can see there is one person with a cracked jewel case (and a legitimate complaint about that) and one or two other people spread across a couple of threads who voiced their complaint that they thought they were getting a DVD box.

All of this is a very interesting lecture about how an internet forum works at times.

  8. cabal23,

I imagine the emails flying now.

Uh, no. Actually there has been no single internal email exchanged about this because there is nothing to debate. We are following a clear line with what we did, we explained it after there seems to have been some misunderstanding/misrepresentation, and there is nothing really left to debate anymore.

The thread shows plenty of things, but not what you seem to imagine it to show. I have locked it because it was on the verge of collapsing entirely into mudslinging, calling of names and all sorts of other things, nothing to do with constructive discussion. You can have that only if people are listening (or reading) and not just yapping and imagining, and that thread is full of the latter.

I am going to revise all of our order pages (when I have some time) to clearly and without the shade of doubt state what the hardgoods entail. That (and the production quality of some of the initial British forces jewel cases) is the only thing that could have been better, and I admitted it.

I am locking this thread, too. You're going to get a warning if you open another one followed by a ban. The entire thread is in full view of anyone who wants to read it and they can make up their own mind about what happened, no commentary needed.

    Martin
