OK. If you can't reach the server via ping, then obviously you can't download files. This means that something downstream between you and our server is blocking the connection. You should contact your internet provider I guess. Our server is online and running.

Well, it may have to do with your browser security settings, too. There is a FAQ in the Knowledge Base at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk for the Repository that you may want to check out:
-
No, ftp is not down. Are you using Google Chrome? Chrome does not support FTP and hence cannot be used to download.

Deleting individual threads before the migration was impractical. Deleting the GF was a one-click affair. Also, in terms of space saved, all the Pend threads combined do not take up even close to the space that the GF does (or, well, did).
To be honest, personally I couldn't care less if we removed the Peng threads or even prohibited them in the future, so *maybe* we'll do just that the next time we need to do some cleanups...

Yes, the General Discussion forum is purged periodically. By definition it's an off-topic forum so nothing valuable is lost. The main reason for the purge is to reduce the size of the forum. The last time it happened we did it so we could migrate the forum over to our new forum database. The choice was to either delete the GF or to not migrate ANY threads.

There are two workarounds around the limit:
1) create a multi-part RAR archive of your mod, and upload it as two parts
2) contact me at martin@battlefront.com and I will send you instructions on how to upload a mod that is above the limit directly via ftp

There has been no deletion, not deliberately anyway. We had some server maintenance yesterday which unfortunately has led to a bunch of posts from yesterday disappear. Please post your questions again.

Yes, we had some server maintenance going on yesterday. Unfortunately this had led to a bunch of posts made yesterday disappear, sorry about that. Please reupload the file to the Repository.

Wait, you must be the same guy who also emailed me directly. Here is a copy of my reply (with sensitive info removed):
The code you are trying to enter is only for the CMBB Vista Upgrade. You must have a different key for CMAK. If you bought the "mail delivery only" option, then it's printed on the product itself, otherwise it's stored in your customer account at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk. -
Submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk please. Include the key you're trying to use and what error it spits out exactly (error number).

The guide is available again from Direct2Drive as a secured PDF download. You need to select "US" as region in order to be able to access it, however.

BTW, I have added the abbreviations SAW, LMG, LSW, T34" to the list of "exceptions" that can be set in vBB, which (should) make sure that these words are indexed regardless of other limitations. Re-indexing is being done periodically so eventually these should begin returning results. However, with such a huge forum as we have, anything with regard to search is a "shot in the dark" at best. The UBB search functions for example were basically not working right for years despite what you guys seem to think
-
Hmm... yes, the setting seems to be right.
Perhaps what is happening is that the OLD board has not been indexed correctly when merged with the new one? Although it's hard to imagine that these abbreviations haven't been used for the past year, so I guess that's not it. I'll put this on the list as yet another thing to doublecheck given some time.
-
Hmm, looks like one forum where I see it is at 3.8. Bummer. Hey upgrade fun You don't have anything better to do, right?
BTW, is there a switch to maybe set the minimum length for words in a search to 3 or 2 characters? For us tankheads that would be very useful.
There is a bunch of reasons why we do not want to upgrade at this point.
Yes, there is a switch that allows to set the number of minimum characters to search for. It's set to 3 at the moment (and has been for a while).

Quote:And once again, the historical record can be preserved now anyway, by clicking on the link of the edit, if you change the forum settings to allow that.
I'll look into that feature as I forgot about it.
This feature must be in the 3.7 or 3.8 family of vBB as it is not available here.

You do not need to permanently change your browser, just install and use a different one for this one download. There is a bug with IE8 which prevents the correct downloading of these files.

Despite running the risk of being accused of closing threads because we're evil, I am still locking this up now while there is some dignity left.

Well there already is a opponent finder forum(which nobody uses) and another forum for discussions about tactics. But was just thinking about the MP lobby thats been discussed in the past, I think back before CMSF launched. So what's the latest on this BF?
This MP lobby or MP interface could of course be for all BF games, not just CMx1 and CMx2 games.
Yes, an MP lobby, PBEM helper, opponent finder tool etc. are all going to part of our Battlefront Toolbar, and it will be for all of our games, not just CM. However, this is a MASSIVE project so it takes time to complete.

Image of a cd only in a jewel case, still can't see it.
Next to an image of a DVD case and British Forces insert this is stated
You can download and play immediately! Hardgoods - consisting of a CD - will be mailed out within 2 weeks.
No image or mention of a jewel case.
You mean a picture is worth more than a 1000 words?
No reason to expect anything other than the DVD style packaging and cd similar to the Marines module which to be fair is a quality product. You mean no reason other than that it isn't mentioned?
To Moon, I will not unlicence the downloaded game I paid for but I will gladly return the hardgoods that were misrepresented for a refund of the $10 & $20 S&H.As you know, we have a no refund policy. You agree to and accept this policy before each purchase. This no refund policy includes partial refunds. We do make exceptions, rarely, but it does happen from time to time. If we do it at all, it usually includes a store coupon for a future purchase but certainly not cash back in hand.
The right way to go about obtaining a refund/coupon if you're unhappy with something is to contact us at the helpdesk or one of the other contact links and ask. For reasonable requests there is usually one way or another to work something out.

Maybe you should just merge all the CD threads into one?
There are only two actually, not counting this one. But you know what, a merging of certain threads is not a bad idea. The forum software we're using is able to merge threads as far as I know, andit may help keeping things in perspective. Maybe we should make that a forum policy in the future.
-
While Id like to point out that I dont agree with it, the guys initial disappointment was that all he received by mail was a disk in a crappy jewel case that 'He' could have burned himself.
He then stated that this was not what was received when the Marines module was ordered in hard copy.
"The guy" wasn't joebloggs, as he mentioned in another thread that he has not yet received his hardgoods. It was someone else.
As far as I can see there is one person with a cracked jewel case (and a legitimate complaint about that) and one or two other people spread across a couple of threads who voiced their complaint that they thought they were getting a DVD box.
All of this is a very interesting lecture about how an internet forum works at times.

Please submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk. The "trap -3" error is a generic error that can have a whole range of causes, but usually seems to be related to some hardware or driver issue. The cause can be highly specific to each system, so it's best to deal with this in the helpdesk. Andrey from 1C will get on your case right away.
-
joebloggs, I have no idea what's wrong with you.
I am happy to give you a full refund if you unlicense the game and remove it from your hard drive. Please submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk if you'd like that.

cabal23,
I imagine the emails flying now.Uh, no. Actually there has been no single internal email exchanged about this because there is nothing to debate. We are following a clear line with what we did, we explained it after there seems to have been some misunderstanding/misrepresentation, and there is nothing really left to debate anymore.
The thread shows plenty of things, but not what you seem to imagine it to show. I have locked it because it was on the verge of collapsing entirely into mudslinging, calling of names and all sorts of other things, nothing to do with constructive discussion. You can have that only if people are listening (or reading) and not just yapping and imagining, and that thread is full of the latter.
I am going to revise all of our order pages (when I have some time) to clearly and without the shade of doubt state what the hardgoods entail. That (and the production quality of some of the initial British forces jewel cases) is the only thing that could have been better, and I admitted it.
I am locking this thread, too. You're going to get a warning if you open another one followed by a ban. The entire thread is in full view of anyone who wants to read it and they can make up their own mind about what happened, no commentary needed.

PS. Just read your PM. Yeah, *that* would definitely explain why the connection is blocked
