  1. Alex, sorry to hear that. Patching is the responsibility of the local distributor. Even if we wanted to take this responsibility in-house we can't, because we have no access to the copy protection and other production tools that the distributor is using locally to produce your game. And we need that in order to create a patch that is compatible with what you bought.

So the only thing we can do is pass the required patch files to the distributor and ask them to release the patch. Many of our local distributors and co-publishers comply, but some do not, and our means to pressure them are - despite best efforts and without going into the legal details here - somewhat limited, unfortunately :(

British Forces should update your game once it comes out in Russia (it hasn't shipped yet?) but it's certainly not our intention to force you to buy the new module to update. We'll talk to Snowball about it.

  2. They have the right to do so, apparently, by the publishing contract with BFC. Or sumfink.

They have decided to create their own trade mark in Russia under which the CM games were distributed, so it's their right to use that trademark as they please. Had they called that other game "Combat Mission", a trademark we own, it would have been problematic, but as it is, it's within the legal lines, albeit somewhat deceptive towards their customers, since we have nothing to do with that other game (and in fact passed on publishing it internationally for a number of reasons)

  3. This symptom is typical when you run the game without full admin rights. Please check your Windows Vista documentation for "User Access Control". You can either deactivate it or if not, you need to set the game to "Run as admin" from the right-click->Properties menu.

  4. Yes, sounds like a corrupted download. Theatre of War 1 and 2 are huge downloads, and you really should use a download manager program such as Download Express, DAP or GetRight (or others; we support all of them). We list some on the download page, as well.

  5. Yes, HD means hard-drive, and you can copy the file by putting the CD into to drive, and choosing "Open" instead of "AutoStart". You will see the contents of the CD, and you can select the file to copy by left-clicking, and then copy it via Ctrl-C and paste it somewhere on your harddrive via Ctrl-V.

  6. Putasokinhet, if you have mailed support, then your reply is logged in the help desk already. The email may have been blocked by your spam filter.

Defective CDs happen but are very rare (like once or twice a year). More likely is that your PC security settings are preventing the game installer from loading from CD. Copy the setup file to your HD, force it to run with full admin rights (Right-click->Properties->Run as admin...) and try again.

There is a Knowledge Base entry for this at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk as well, which incidentally is also the place where you log in to check the status of your ticket.

  7. You are downloading the wrong patch. You need to download the correct patch for the Battlefront.com version if that's what you have. Direct link (assuming that you have NO MODULES INSTALLED):

    http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_versions&Itemid=221#Combat Mission: Shock Force

If you have modules installed, then you need the corresponding patch for the Marines and/or British Forces module (it patches the base game automatically, so no base game patch is needed).

  8. Hi all

I have been interested in this game for a long time now. As it nears US release, I have been watching it closer. I haven't seen any meantion of support for TH2Go, SoftTH or Eyefinity.

I would like to request support for Triple screen gaming.

Preper aspect and resolutions, if possible.

If the game already supports the correct resolutions for this, please disregard this post.

    Thank you :)

We are a partner with TripleHead2Go (CMSF is TH2Go compatible) so chances are that we may be able to add TH2Go compatibility. If not on release, then in a patch.

  9. Hi all,

I try to install Mission Pack 1 w/the Uber Patch as an Administrator under the Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS with NO success.

The disk spins in the DVD drive then the UAC asks me to install the tow.exe and I wait and NOTHING happens.

    How do I install it?

    Heeellp!

    hellas1

Your Security settings may be preventing the setup from running from the disc. Copy the setup.exe file to your harddrive, set it to "Run as administrator" and try again.

  10. This is most likely a false positive. Some anti-virus programs set to run Heuristic scans (i.e. looking for something that remotely looks like a virus rather than an actual virus definition) may do that from time to time. It happens with eLicense protected files occasionally, and I guess that whatever DRM Paradox is using, it's now happening there, too. You can usually email your AV program support and notify them of it, they should be able to correct it with the next round of definitions, and/or disable Heuristics scanning and/or create an exception in your AV program for the files it's mis-reporting.

  11. Please submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk. Please include as many details as you can about your PC hardware etc. The ticket forms have all the necessary fields that we're usually requiring for this type of support.

And as a first self-help: make sure that you have installed and are running the game with full administrator rights or have UAC (User Access Control) shut off if you have Windows Vista.

  12. The problem with EoS is that a single turn is such a small fragment of gameplay that you would take a whole year to finish a game by PBEM. Even IP games take many (many) hours to resolve.

This is probably the main reason why PBEM, even if coded in, would be hardly popular.
