  1. We have partnered directly with Akella on this title, not through 1C. How much of the previous Russian release will be "adjusted" remains to be seen. As usual, there will be a demo out so everyone can judge for himself before taking the plunge (no pun intended).

  2. Yes it does.

Note however that uninstalling and unlicensing are two different things. You can do one without the other.

Usually, when you hit "uninstall", you will be prompted to unlicense as well, but you do not have to. If you don't, then later, should you reinstall the game, you will not be asked to relicense it, it will be running right away as the license is still "remembered". H

However, it's unlikely you'd want that. What is more likely is the other way around: you want to unlicense the game but keep it installed. That's perfectly ok and within what the EULA allows. Some people who travel a lot use this to have our games installed on 3 or more PCs, and they only have to relicense what they need (two per key max), which is much quicker than uninstalling and reinstalling (unlicensing takes only one second, it's really just one click if you're online).

How to unlicense, and pretty much anything else you'd ever want to know about eLicense is described in our Knowledge Base at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk.

  3. To comment on the original point regarding CM and TOW/TOW2: it's actually a little unfair if you ask me, and factually incorrect to be honest, to classify TOW2 as more arcade than CM. It's not. Some of the stuff that TOW does in terms of penetration calculations, to-hit calculations, and other physics in the game, in fact surpass what CM is going.

But TOW's focus as a game is different than CM, and this makes the two difficult to compare (and also means that they complement each other much more than they compete). TOW borrows certain aspects from Close Combat such as the character development for your individual soldiers for example, and therefore is more likely to appeal to a different type of player than CM. But I don't think it's necessarily any less realistic in its simulation.

  4. In fact following your logic, you chose my email yourself when you pulled it automatically out of my paypal account.

You have chosen to pay with Paypal, so we have to use your Paypal account. There is no choice on the seller's end.

I gave you a solution, but instead you want to play a silly game of who is at fault.

No Tommy, you're playing the game of who is at fault. We have given you two solutions, not just one: 1) contact hotmail. 2) if they don't fix up your account, we'll re-assign your account to a different email. I think you have mistaken the explanation of how you can access your account after your purchase without having to wait for an email for assigning blame to you. That's not case. Hotmail is to blame, no one else.

this will be my last post on the subject, as I am moving on

OK, I am locking up the thread. Your ticket in the helpdesk is set to automatically remind you in 10 days if the issue is solved or not.

  5. Hello Tom!

Thanks for taking the time to post your feedback! I would like to offer some comments and replies.

So, I contacted tech support and tried to get my license key again as I lost it on my system while in Iraq.

I was told sorry, but you can only download it for a year? Ah, ok....I was offered a $5 re-download coupon.

Just to make sure this is understood correctly: your key never expires. But your download link does. If you save the game that you have downloaded after your purchase, there is no need for you to re-download anything. We can and do reset keys free of charge (a few times).

Cool...$5 bucks is no big deal. So I downloaded the software again. Here comes the rub, I used my my Paypal account which is tied to a old Hotmail account. I had an account "automatically" created for me and sent to my Hotmail account. Now, Hotmail is blacklisting Battlefront.

Not just Battlefront but many other IPs and domains are affected as well apparently.

Not Battlefront's fault - but not MY problem. I got that - but it meant I couldn't get my license key!

You can because after your purchase there is no need to wait for an email. The order confirmation screen describes that you should NOT wait for the email, in fact. It also says that you are logged in at that moment (during the checkout) so you can pull your key immediately. Also, you can change your username and password immediately as well. There is no need to wait for emails.

When I contacted help support again, asking to get this account linked to a new one I created I was basically told - sorry "not our fault". This despite me having found multiple similar problems on the forums and this being the suggested fix (contact the help desk).

Right, hotmail.com is blocking the battlefront.com mail domain (among many others) and therefore there is quite a large number of people affected currently. It's not our fault (the blocking is some kind of database error according to hotmail support), and there is nothing we can do to fix it either, as hotmail will have to come up with a solution to it. Linking your account to a new email address is possible, but there are various security and privacy issues with it. Therefore, the immediate solution should be that you contact the email provider of your choice and ask them to whitelist the battlefront email domain again. Many people have done so.

Over the course of several somewhat insulting emails basically saying I was a dumb @$# for not reading the screen, etc.

No emails have ever been exchanged which said that.

Apparently it was my fault for not be omnipotent AND not knowing that I would have an account auto-generated for me AND that Hotmail was blocking Battlefront, AND that the screen (which I did read) and told me an email was on the way with my key would never arrive. Wow, I do feel stupid.......

You shouldn't because many people do not read the order confirmation screen nor many of the other hints that are printed on the order pages. You're in good company. There is certainly no fault on your part for choosing hotmail as your mail provider. However, as mentioned previously, battlefront.com has no way to do what only hotmail support can do for you.

I gave up and just re-purchased the game at full price under a new account. Contacting Hotmail to fix the problem isn't really a solution to MY problem and is silly as it wouldn't solve MY problem anyway (i.e. you would have to resend me a key!!!!).

Of course it would solve your problem because just like explained to you in the helpdesk (and as mentioned in the Knowledge Base), after you have your password reset and log into your customer account, you can look up your license key inside your account at any time. There is no need for us to resend you any emails.

All it would take is resetting the email to the new one I provided, but alas that seems to hard (even though this was done for others).

After contacting hotmail to do it the right way, which is to ask your email provider to fix what they have broken, yes. You have been told that reassigning an account to a different emails is an exception due to various security and privacy issues, and therefore we first need you to try to straighten things out with your email provider.

    1. Remove the stupid DRM - but that's not a new recommendation - this wouldn't solve the problem directly but would make your sales funnel a lot more flexible so you could fix these problems more easily.

There is no stupid DRM to remove. Elicense does what it's meant to do, and that's one thing only: restrict the use of the game you purchased the license for from us to be used within the End User License Agreement.

    2. If you know Hotmail is blocking you, screen for new accounts created with a Hotmail address. Then, resend them an email from another email account (I hear hotmail has free ones ;) ! Duh....this could even be automated or done manually by the help desk people in a proactive way.

Since no email is needed for purchase, download, licensing and accessing your customer account, there is no real need to do this. From all the hotmail customers we have, only a few seem to not read the instructions on the order page.

    3. For God's sakes don't make your customers feel like your problem (being blacklisted from Hotmail) is their problem. If it happens, just fix it quick!

Except we can't because we're not hotmail.

BTW, the game is improved. However, the stupid DRM and poor customer service means I am going to have to think hard about buying another game from Battlefront. Oh, I probably will, but I won't feel good about it like I used too.

    Sorry to hear that.

I do not need a refund or anything. Please keep the money, get rid of the stupid DRM, and get the old tech support back so you can keep making great games. Thanks...
    ...

We're happy to send you a store coupon for your second purchase, which was unnecessary. Please submit a ticket to the helpdesk if you change your mind. You can always give it as present to someone else.

  6. You need to install, and launch, the game with full admin rights under Vista. That includes right-clicking and setting the game to "Run as administrator". Or shut off UAC (User Access Control), which is the first thing I have done under Vista.

zyk0001, your problem may point at DEP (Data Execution Prevention) acting up, or your anti-virus is not really turned off even though you think it is (some AV packages such as ZoneAlarm and others are known for continuing to run in the background, and you may have to shut them down and make sure that you boot without them). Our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk contains tips what you can do for both under the eLicense FAQ category.

  7. Do you see the eLicense window where you click on "Trial"?

Do you have full admin rights set on your Vista PCs? Right-click on the program, choose "Run as administrator" from the Properties dialog.

Do you have any aggressive anti-virus software running that may be blocking the execution of the program?

  8. Hi!

We usually ship within 1-2 days after your order is in. Probably yours will ship tomorrow, and then it's up to the postal office how long it will be in transit. It ships out of Germany. Shouldn't take more than a couple of days or so, perhaps 3 or 4 max.

  9. I have been missing a capital city myself when I first started playing EOS. However, as you play more, you realize that it's not really that big of a deal. Your beginning city tends to become your strongest city anyway, because it's the one where you invest the most resources for the longest time in the game. Over time, your starting cities will be well into their 15 or 18 point as resources as is, without the need for an additional "Capital" city rule.

Mind you, it's not a bad idea at all, I'm just not sure it's really needed. Perhaps some more play time would be good to judge.

hoolaman, simple ideas are sometimes the hardest to code :)

  10. By the way, what bothers me most about resources is that they are traded on a 1-1 basis. It kinda defeats the purpose of having different resources when a player can freely sell 1 unit of Oil and get 1 unit of Food or whatever, just like that.

    Don't you think?

The beauty of the trade system only comes out when you start playing MP and trading with other players. The AI is pretty much fixed in what it will accept or reject.

  11. Phil, I checked and there are no open tickets in the helpdesk, so better log in and check your ticket status. Of course, if you don't have your login for the main store, you won't be able to log in to the helpdesk either, heh...

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do at all. There is a forum for tech support for hotmail, live.com and msn, it's located here:

    http://windowslivehelp.com/community/t/113947.aspx

I assume that if you have a hotmail account automatically qualify for posting stuff there, so perhaps you should do what the other people have done, and complain there. Complaints do seem to get some attention from their tech staff.

  12. haha. Oops. I just purchased CMSF, Marines module & the British module, installed the first two fine, then installed the British module and BOOOOM. No license key. Turns out I registered my address to hotmail, and I have just read that for some reason hotmail is black-listing that particular site, hence no emails. No email equals no license number! How annoying :(

No, it's not blacklisting "that particular site". It seems that at the moment hotmail is blacklisting a lot of sites, including battlefront.com. Hammer away at hotmail support, that's probably the best chance to get this resolved quickly. Our repeated attempts to contact postmaster.live.com have so far not resulted in anything other than the same automated replies. Battlefront.com is not blacklisted anywhere (and never was), so their ban is completely out of order.

  13. phil, if you take a look at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk (which is what the "Support" menu entry off the main site leads to), you will see a Battlefront Store FAQ with answers to pretty much everything you're asking.

When you place an order an account is created for you on the fly. It is assigned a randome password, which is emailed to you. You are logged in automatically as well during the purchase, and after it's completed, you can immediately download your game and you also have access to your license key. There is no need to wait for any emails.

As for what emails pass through hotmails filters and which are not - we have no say over that unfortunately. It seems that some emails do make it, other do not.

Right now, there is a different problem altogether with hotmail. When you look at their help center forum, you will notice many people complaining about not being able to receive legitimate emails. It looks like hotmails (and this includes live.com and msn.com) blacklist filters have some kind of problem, as even verizon was blacklisted apparently.

Right now, emails from the battlefront.com doamin to hotmail.com (and live.com and msn.com) are being rejected by hotmail. The only thing I can advise you to do is to contact hotmail and make them aware of the issue and ask them to whitelist battlefront.com on their end. Our email server and IP are not blacklisted anywhere (and never were), so this ban from hotmail has no reason at all, and our attempts to contact them to remove it have been unsuccessful for the past 1.5 weeks.

If all else fails, the only other alternative we can offer at this point, is that you create a new email account someplace else, and submit a support ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk, asking to have your customer account reassigned to the new address. You will need to include as much personal info as possible so we can match the accounts, such as recent orders, address, full name, email used etc.

    Martin

PS. A reply is probably waiting for you at the helpdesk. As with all other emails from battlefront.com you will probably not receive an email copy if you used your hotmail address, so better check online.

  14. Actually CMBO did have land bridges that could be passed under. ;) There were tall stone bridges, stone bridges, medium bridges, tall land bridges and tall land bridges w/ road. The two latter could be passed under. Actually the bridges over water could be passed under too, if the water was frozen.

    Bridge.jpg

But the bridge limits I remember having requested almost a decade ago. Glad to have them. :)

This was what I recall Charles calling the BFUH, aka "big fat ugly hack" :) The units would disappear and magically appear on the other side of the bridge. They could pass under the bridge in this sense, but that is hardly the same thing as will be possible in the new engine. :)
