Informative and entertaining.

Eg:  Lesson 10: Consider any type of signature that you produce as a reconnaissance unit. Perhaps leaving the vehicles in hide sites versus actually deploying them as gathering assets is the appropriate course of action in the same scenarios.

We have the option of HIDE for our vehicles but how many of us ever use that?  Do we even know what effect HIDE has - will it prevent enemy from detecting us.  Is it only really useful in the modern titles what with drones and EW issues?

The manual says the Hiding vehicle will "keep a low noise profile".  It has also been posted on the forums that giving a vehicle a Hide command cuts the range at which the vehicle can be heard by half.

In CMBS I've seen a vehicle tag a prone infantryman hiding back in the treeline among bushes. Welcome to the world of IR optics. The guy probably would have survived in a WWII title. In modern titles the plan 'Maybe he won't spot me here' has a pretty low success rate. Half the gameplay involves utilizing terrain features.

As for hiding, your ability to hide in the game is dependent on experience level. Green troops lack proper discipline, fidget about and make noise. Elite troops, by contrast, will hide like the Predator alien.

I remember that, however, when an inf hides he degrades his spotting ability.  One would hope that a recon vehicle on HIDE would reduce its signature without degrading its spotting ability - which is its primary function.  The question is does HIDE work differently with vehicles?

Subjective observation here.

Hide appears to degrade spotting ability by virtue of keeping them down and low to the ground - they seem to have similar cycles of spotting, with the squad leader/binoculars carrier standing up occasionally to take a peek with the same period as an idle squad.

If that's true, it's not the Hide command that's degrading spotting directly, so much as Hide meaning "get down and stay down", combined with it being harder to see things when crawling.
