Dismount question

Recommended Posts

All,

If you order a halftrack to move, you cannot dismount until all movement orders have been executed by the halftrack, right?

Is it possible to issue a pause command in the middle of the waypoints and the units will jump out?

What about issuing a pause command before you start executing any orders, can your guys jump out?

Or is it only possible to dismount at the end of ALL orders?

Thx

This was dealt with elsewhere. IIRC: If you order men to dismount first, THEN order the vehicle to move, the men dismount.

If you order the vehicle to move FIRST and then give the men waypoints, they will stay in the vehicle until it ceases movement.

I do not believe thre is any way to have men dismount at a waypoint in the middle of movement.

Hopefully, more knowledgeable types can correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry - there's no way to do this right now. Previous threads have gone into some detail about timing your vehicle's movement so that it finishes its move at the end of a turn and the troops start to dismount, so that at the start of the next turn your troops will be out of the vehicle and moving, so you can give new orders to the vehicle.

Also, in case you didn't realise, you don't need to give the 'dismount' order to troops being carried by vehicles. Any movement order will get them to dismount and move to the selected waypoint once the vehicle they are in has completely finished all the movement orders assigned to it.

This really should be stickied somewhere.

If you want the crew and passengers to leave the vehicle at the start of the turn and walk to a destination, select the vehicle, press dismount and issue move orders.

If you want the passengers to leave the vehicle at the start of the turn and walk, and the vehicle to drive somewhere after the passengers have gone, select the passengers, press dismount, then issue move orders.

If you want the passengers to leave the vehicle at the end of the vehicle's movement, issue move orders to both units, don't press dismount.

If you want the passengers to leave the vehicle at a waypoint and have the vehicle keep moving after the passengers have dismounted, it can't be done. You'll just have to use pauses to have the vehicle arrive where you want the infantry to dismount as close to the end of the turn as you can.

the pause command is great for this problem...a bit of geuss work is needed though...start with a a pause order for as long as you think is necessary for your vehicle to finish it's move just when the wego turn ends...then dismount start of next turn....otherwise you could end up with the vehicle sitting at it's destination like a sitting duck full of troops for god knows how long...

If you're sending the troop carrier into harm's way and don't want to lose carrier and troops to one shot, just give the transported troops a "Quick" order to next to the destination of the carrier. They'll pile out when the carrier arrives. Obviously, it's a good idea to send them to some kind of cover, if it's available. You could also use this to have them assault a location directly out of the carrier, in the same turn the carrier rampages forward...
