More about Hanomags...

Further to my question about when you get a "gunner'd" 251/1 and when you don't, if purchasing, I ran some QB selection tests.

It seems you get :

Panzergrenadier Battalion

Batt Hq : 251/1 No Gunner

Coy HQ : 251/3 No Gunner

XO Team : 251/3 No Gunner

Platoon HQ : 251/1 +Gunner

Squads : 251/1 +Gunner

Heavy platoon :

HQ : 251/1 +Gunner

HMG squads 2 per 251/1 : No Gunner ( makes sense as the HMG squads are 6 men each and a dedicated gunner in a 251/1 takes up one of the 12 passenger slots ).

Pioneer Battalion

Batt HQ : 251/3 +Gunner.

Vehicles purchased singly :

250/1 : +Gunner

250/3 : +Gunner

250/1 : No Gunner

250/3 : +Gunner

Couple of questions then arise :

1) Since I thought the */3 model is the radio-equipped version, why does the Panzergrenadier Battalion HQ get a 251/1 ?

2) Why is it that the 251/1 is the only version that comes without a dedicated gunner when bought individually ?

3) What is the rationale for the other distribution within the battalions ?

I'm not trying to say anything is "wrong" (particularly in the case of Q3 ), but you guys did all the TO&E research and I'd really like to know why.

Thanks

( I only ran about 4-5 purchasing tests, so if it's more random, my bad )

Maybe because there is an element of randomness; i.e. that German units were seldom fully up to TO&E and the units and TO&E's varied so much, that there was not always a guarantee of having enough spare men to man the vehicle MG's. US practice differed, attempting to bring units up to TO&E as soon as manpower and opportunity permitted, where the Germans seemed to go catch as catch can with so many varied elements all competing for the manpower pool.

My best guess, anyway.

The battalion HQ 251/1 wasn't a radio vehicle, it was used to carry cases of champaign, looted art and mistresses. :)

lol, good answer.

Now that makes me want to mod the interior to show the "Fallen Madonna with the big boobies" :)

IIRC someone made a mod for CM:SF that added a centerfold to the interior rear wall of the Abrams's turret.

Considering what got painted on the exterior of USAAF bombers, I wouldn't be surprised to see a pinup stuck (with chewing gum, I would imagine) to the interior of a Sherman's turret.

You look at those old wartime pinups and you marvel at how anybody could imagine Betty Grable was sexy. Hedy Lamarr yes, but Betty Grable?

Sure, but Hedy Lamarr wasn't photographed from behind in a bathing suit. Also, Hedy Lamarr wasn't blonde.

IMHO, Rita Hayworth takes the cake. =)

Hang on! Wasn't Hedy Lamarr the bad guy who tried to drive the citizens out of Rock Ridge so he could make a fortune when the railway went through?
