Rimfire
Anyone still playing this game? I have had it a few days now and find it excellent. After some learning time, it might be fun to find some opponents.
costard
Not often, but sure, why not? Send me a pm when you're ready to go. Come to think, it's must be about time for an Out of the Dust Tournament.
Rimfire
Thank you Costard for the response. Count me in on anything, tournament or otherwise, that is CMBO related. There are four of us currently learning the game together. We assume most folks have moved on to newer versions, which will likely be our case as well in due course, but in the meantime..... Went to your profile, the members list is closed, where do I find your email? Thanks again.
Sergei
You can use the "send private message" function. I find it charming that the game still garners new fans 10 years after its release.
dash1bravo
Count me in Rimfire (and others interested). I haven't played in years but it sounds "horah" to me.
John Kettler
Rimfire, Welcome aboard! I haven't played CMBO in a long time, but as you can see from my sig, I do have quite a bit of experience with it. It's a great game, but it will teach you tactics which simply don't work in either CMAK or CMBB. Please bear that in mind. Here's a thread listing some of the real gems of CMBO: blow by blow accounts of the terrible battles fought in the Invitational Tourney and the Rumblings of War that paralleled it for a time, then followed it. You'll need some creativity in searching, but the results will be well worth the work, showing you the depth and richness of the game. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=85923&highlight=rumblings+war To get you started, here are the Invitational Tourney threads. The Invitational was fought on 9 maps per player of a total of 19 maps and was conducted using negotiated forces. As you'll see, I was awful in this environment, especially against CMBO master Fionn, but we all learned important lessons in negotiation, interpersonal relations, tourney conduct, force selection, terrain usage, the criticality of effective recon and much more. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=27107&highlight=invitational Then http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=26803&highlight=rumblings The Invitational continues (after rising from the dead)! Note particularly the Jarmo rules on page 7 in my fight with him. This is how to make sure people make rational choices with handpicked forces. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=32814&highlight=rumblings We continue http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=57637&highlight=invitational We near the end (regrettably via a long cyberproblem detour) http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=55792&highlight=invitational Finis! http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=58451&highlight=invitational Rumblings of War I & II (for CMBO) used prebuilt scenarios and forces, eliminating cherry picking of forces, negotiations and more, and introduced the revolutionary Nabla system of tournament scorring in which players on a given side, in a given scenario are ranked relative to all other such players. This allows the creation of imbalanced scenarios in which you can lose yet still win, in turn dramatically improving the options available to scenario designers. Besides, how often are opposing forces evenly matched in real life? Have fun with CMBO! Regards, John Kettler
JoMac
Rimfire, I too like many others have played CMBO years ago before moving on to CMBB/CMAK. However, I dont mind dusting my old copy off, and playing again for old times sake. What is your email so I can send over a game file. It will be a small 700 point QB, Combined Arms, Meeting, Sept. 44, I am U.S. and you AXIS, Village, Random Weather. Joe
BloodyBucket
I don't play that often, but I still prefer CMBO to the more recent versions because of the setting. It's a great game, and while I've got quite a few multiplayer games under my belt the vast majority of my time with CMBO has been single player. Enjoy!
John Kettler
BloodyBucket, As a wargaming kit, it's hard to beat, but the differences between CMBO and CMBB/CMAK in things like MG modeling, artillery implementation, etc. are considerable and definitely impact gameplay. The new artillery procedures like to drove me mad playing CMBO type scenarios using CMAK during RoW. Also, had to unlearn bad CMBO habits such as directly assaulting MGs! Have many fond memories of epic battles fought, including a Green FO who dropped a 14" round smack on target, basically leveling a block and killing most of a German infantry company. Can't do that in CMAK! Regards, John Kettler
Rimfire
Thanks to those who have willingly entered into games with this rank novice. It is clear that once bloodied a few times in CMBO I will need to move on to newer versions. Which of the newer games are most folks currently playing?
JoMac
Rimfire, Most people are playing CMBB ( Eastern Front 41-45 ), and CMAK ( Western Front - Mediterrainian Theater to include Desert, Med Islands, Italy ). In CMAK, many people including myself modded it to also include NW Europe. So now I play CMAK for all my Western Front Battles.

Rimfire
Looks like an excellent site. Thank you very much. I did send email to a couple folks a few days ago attempting to find a game and thus a sponsor. No response as yet, but will keep trying. Glad to see there are still folks making tournaments, ladders and just enjoying the game in general.
