scottsmm
I'm going totally on a hunch here. Anyway does anyone know what the importance of Sept 3rd 2,009 is to WWII? Does anyone realize what potential importance this date has to SC. Like I said I'm going totally on a hunch here, but it is possible that there could be a major connection between these two dates... scottsmm
Guys it wasn't a trick question. In fact I thought it was pretty straight forward. I think everyone get's the 70 years part of it, it's just more of a matter of whether or not something historical will come of it for SC.
Bill101
When I read your post I was initially confused, but then realised why: because I always think of WWII having started on the 1st September when the Germans invaded Poland. Then it dawned on me what you were referring to!
scottsmm
Bill, I also think that WWII started on that date, but it's become apparent to me that most people accept September 3rd (France and England DOW on Germany) as the date in which WWII begin. I probably should have posted that date to, so that there would have been no confusion.
zukkov
sept 3rd starts ww2 because france and england declare war on germany? heh, tell that to the poles... lol..

scottsmm
I would think the Poles would want to forget about WWII, not take pride in being the place where it all started. They literally got there you know what handed to them by the Germans.
zukkov
nah, i'll bet they remember very well. not so much that they lost, but how they were treated after they surrendered. anyway, i'll always think of 9-1 as the first day of ww2..

Happycat
Sept 10/39 insofar as Canada is concerned. I can't imagine what there was to debate about for seven days, but I am sure MacKenzie King was delighted as hell to exercise our right to declare war without reference to the United Kingdom. Although Canada was an independent nation in 1914, our relationship within the Commonwealth at that time was such that when Britain went to war, we went to war; no equivocating
