Field Marshal Blücher
Do you guys have any suggestions for good books to read about British combat operations at the platoon-battalion levels in Afghanistan or Iraq?
ricky77
3 Para by Patrick Bishop 3 Commando Brigade by Ewen Southby Tailyour 3 Para very much deals with platoon level action. Some of units were very lucky not to be overrun by the Taliban very much touch and go at times
George MC
Dusty Warriors by Richard Holmes (Some good accounts of Brit armoured battlegroup ops in Iraq) Sniper One by Sgt Dan Mills (Gripping first hand account) 3 Para by Patrick Bishop (Echo above comments - gripping read).
theFightingSeabee
There are also some great videos out there. Here are some that may help you. Ben Anderson, a BBC reporter, went out with the Brits in Afghanistan. Watch part 1-8. http://www.liveleak.com/browse?q=ben+anderson
ricky77
An Ordinary Soldier: Afghanistan: A Ferocious Enemy. A Bloody Conflict. One Man's Impossible Mission As George MC listed any book by Richard Holmes is a great read

Webwing
Videos: - Ross Kemp - Battlefield Afghanistan/Passionate Eye Both show a lot of interesting stuff. As for books the best I read so far was Sniper One. I just couldn´t put the book down! And is not only entertaining it has a lot of good info as well. On the British Army organization and equipment I´d say the The British Army: A Pocket Guide 2008 - 2009 is a good bet. It´s a little book but it has most of the things you want to know about the British Army, organization, equipment, etc. And it´s very cheap. -
Redberet
An Ordinary Soldier by Doug Beattie is a fine read............. Also as above can't recommend 3 Para enough......
jameshr4
3 Commando Brigade by Ewen Southby Tailyour is a top quality book and better than 3 para even though that was still very good. A Million Bullets - tells the story of the Gurkha's and Royal Regiment of Fusiliers that was missed out of 3 para.
Wicky
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7669953.stm A little tangent humour but it relates to British Army in Afghanistan - crossed with an episode of MASH
