Turn all the detail to low. Save the settings before launching the game, see what else is running. processes and services, see if there is anything out of the ordinary. rune
OK, go into the control panel for nvidia. Go to 3d settings, manage 3d settings. Look for the threaded optimization and multi-monitor. Set to one monitor and set the threaded optimization to auto. It looks something like this: Rune
rune
franz, Try the same settings above and let me know. Rune
franz
just done what you said Rune, and IT WORKS BRILLIANTLY. thanks for your prompt help. I'm off to defeat the Soviet Union now. See you guys later.
Zimbower88
Hey rune, I have done the following:Set to one monitor and set the threaded optimization to auto and it improved my frame rate in game 19-28fps with everything on max I guess its not a good idea having 2 monitors on when playing Theatre of War hahaha... Thx m8
rune
Chad 44, see my dual core post for an nvidia setting that must be changed. Rune
rune
Zimbower88, and franz, Glad you both got it up and running fast! The auto setting should not hurt any other programs, as it will let the program decide. Enjoy the game! Rune
Hpt. Lisse
Nice driver screen shots, Rune, very nice.
Sarjen
Well i installed new drivers, disabled EAX, set graphics to low or disabled high resolutions and still the game is very very low in the FPS. When the reinforcements arrive i get around 5 FPS. I'll sit and wait if the developers come with a solution.
rune
Sarjen, Instead of blaming the game, how about some computer specs? Look at all the other people I got running. Rune
Sarjen
I did post them earlier. AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 1 GB RAM 1 Nvidia 7800 GS And as i said, i really did everything you and the other helpful members posted or recommended. So thats not blaming the game, its a fact that the game any my computer dont work too well with each other. And that is a bit strange as even CoH or MedievalII run both without problems on medium to high settings. -> no rant, no blame.
Lubrejens
Well now I have tried anything I can think of to tweak the game performance , but am still getting 1-5 fps when things get heated...any news on a patch? Pvt. Ryan
I had been running the game without any frame rate problems and then I decided to update my video driver for the fun of it. Once I did that the game slowed to a crawl. I went back to the old driver and the game works great again. I have a GeForce 7800 GTX. I am using 84.25 and had tried 93.71 unsuccessfully. Kharnvor
My game slows down incredibly as soon as reinfocements arrive. It doesn't matter if they're in view or not, which leads me to believe it's not a graphics settings issue. The Citadel mission from the German campaign became absolutely unplayable very quickly, even if I was just looking at an empty field. Specs: Pentium IV 3.0 GHz 1 GB RAM Radeon 9600XT 128MB I'm thinking the RAM may be the problem since it's minimum spec. Thoughts? Thanks!
panzermartin
Same problem here. I can't enjoy the game beyond a certain number of vehicles. Is this something that is considered for the upcoming patches? Task
I had the same difficulty in FPS issues the first time I ran the demo. My comp specs are: AMD X2 5200+ Dual Core 8800GTX 2GB Dual Channel -- I fixed it by messing around in the NVidia control by turning Thread Optimization off, which has been suggested. Everything worked fine after that (full graphics, better FPS, etc.).
Vern_S
I have an AMD Sempron 64 3400+ running at 2.0 Gig, 1 gig of ram, NVidia 7600GT with 512meg. ToW runs ok (around 10fps) with medium settings at 1440x900 resolution. reinforcements come in and I get 1 to 3 fps at best. Totally unplayable. When the game is paused then you can zoom around the field lightning fast.EAX disabled, latest AMD patchs and drivers installed. Running XP Pro with everything up to date. I can run Company of heros at 1680x1050 without issues.
Lubrejens
Kharnvor Junior Member Member # 21755 I'm thinking the RAM may be the problem since it's minimum spec. Thoughts? Thanks! ========================================= I doubt RAM is the issue ,as I also began with 1GB and upgraded to 4GB... it did help a little on the fps before the reinforcements, but after they arrived it dropped to 1-5 as usual. Vern_S
On my system, a AMD 64 3400+ with 1 Gig of Ram and 512Meg video Ram on my 7600GS, ToW has yet to use more then 850meg of total physical memory.
Kharnvor
Well then I'm stumped. It shouldn't be due to my graphics card or settings, because as I've mentioned, I can have the camera low, looking at an empty field and it's still very slow. But once I pause, it runs smooth as french silk. mmm french silk.
Vern_S
Madmatt in another post had mentioned an "Overall stability" issue as well as an issue concerning AMD chip sets which compound the issue. If you can fly like an eagle, great song by the way, when the game is paused and then it drops like a rock un-paused then it's a processing issue. There is a bottleneck in the processing pipeline which seems to effect certain types of processors more then others. At least thats what I understand of it. They obviously knew of one such bottleneck and as a quick workaround implemented the "Use only one CPU" setting in the Options menu. What bugs me about all of this is that ToW has been released many months now in Russia and you would think that all of theses stability issues would have been resolved by now. On the other hand they could have implemented something new at the last minute, possibly something to do with the way tanks are handled, and that caused the bottleneck and brought things to a crawl for many of us. Beta testing should have caught that though. Well lets hope they have it figured out and soon this thread will be dead... Until then I would not recommend to anyone spending a multitude of hours changing everything on your system to try and get the game to perform until after the first patch comes out. Cheers and heavy sigh...
