kryger
This is a from the demo page: "Dual/Quad Core Users: Users of multi-core processors will notice much greater framerate if they select the "Use only one CPU" option in the configuration utility." Does this means Theater of War do NOT support Dual core?
theBrit
Obviously not!!!!
crazyman56
Well i think it suports it just not very well!?
theBrit
Hmmm you would have thought if it supports it your game should run better. The fact that the Devs are saying turn Dualcore's off suggests the engine doesnt support it.

kryger
NO. This is not good. It is a new game, and it should support dual core. (They have been on the market over a year).
theBrit
This game is based on an old engine (pre dualcore).... TOW2 will definately support Dual/Quad+ I am sure.
kryger
I have a new machine: Intel Core 2 Duo, 1.86 GHz. ATI Radeon 1950 2 GB. Ram. But if the game does not support “Dual Core” I only have a slow 1,86 machine!!!
MikoyanPT
Most of the games dont support dual core. Even the most recent and spectacular ones. Hard to code simultaneus to various processors. But a dual core should run the game better, because one core handles the game, the other handles all the other sistem operations running in the background. Moon
Actually the game does support Dual Core. In fact 1C and us are a software partner with Intel. Not all users need to use this option, but for some it's a must. I'm not a programmer but the reason as I understand it is some conflict with "threading" on some dual core machines. evo6tme
Do we know what duel core prossesors work and which dont ? I`m asuming if intel are partners then core2due will work?
kryger
I have now downloaded the demo, and I am using both the cpu´s. "Intel core2duo" It works fine!!! Great. Thank you. The game looks great.
Robear
What about Opteron dual cores? Anyone test on those?

The Core2's faster per clock than a P4, so anyone with a Core2 is PLENTY fast enough.
Moon
I just posted this in another thread and it's probably worth reposting here. All newer dual core machines should work fine without that option, i.e. using both cores. Performance increase after optimization is 10-20%. For older dual core computers there is a conflict with Hypterhreading which causes extreme slowdowns, so one of the cores needs to be shut down. The effect is 10% less performance than if you have a faster CoreDuo, so as you can see by no means it makes the game unplayable. Martin

The good news is that Core2 CPUs are faster than Pentium4s at the same clock speed by a LOT. A 1.86 Ghz C2D is plenty fast enough, don't worry
Kazzel
I got a AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ and that one seems to work perfectly with TOW, as I got no problems with everyting at max setting.
alanhi
My AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL-60 works a treat too (and I didn't even check the run in single core box!!) Al [ April 18, 2007, 08:18 AM: Message edited by: alanhi ]
Redwolf
I bet 10 bucks that they mean you should turn hyperthreading off, or if you have it on select the "use 1 CPU option". Hyperthreading sucks for many applications. Whoever translates the hardware requirements and tips like these from Russian to English is probably the culprit for all this stupidity. Can somebody post how much usage on second cores they see in system monitor on a multi-core/CPU system?
Freeboy
ok, where is the cutoff between new and old dual cores? I m,ean, My New dual core is obsolete, but yesterday it was state of the art? amd 64fx 60?
Freeboy
ok, add on to above comment, switched to using dual core, I guess my cpu made the new/old cut, runs great using both cores. thanks for a really amazing, so far, game.
markshot
Martin, I am not sure what the story is, but I have QX6700 (which is almost the latest technology publicly available). However, I did need to use the one CPU only option to get decent FPS.
guttersnipe
I've a 2 yr old Pentium D 3.2 which runs like silk without switching to single core - from what I remember it doesn't do hyper-threading - think Redwolf has the right line on this one.
