Sickie
After years of wondering around cluelessly in the barren wasteland of arcade-style combat sims in which the CC series where the only proof of gamedevelopers taking this genre seriously I was delighted to find out about Battlefield Command/WWII RTS. With Battlefront as the new publisher I stumbled onto these forums here and I'm still catching up with a lot of the older discussions. Since I was anticipating a quick release of TOW, don't have a credit card and was unimpressed with the graphics and scared to death about the learning curve of CM I decided not to go any further than just playing all three demo's. Over and over again. Then I found all three games for just EUR. 15! I've only played CMBB now and mostly as defending germans while that is the only tactical field I had some knowledge of and gave me a chance to judge the game, see how it handles reality and gradualty implement recommended tactics . Next big thing for me is going to learn more about the soviet offensive doctrines. Haven't installed any custom scenario's or mods, although I am under the impression that the latter are merely eyecandy and don't interfere with gameplay. So I think I'm ready now to take on a human opponent, still defending as germans though. Anyone in for a pbem? Battle/scenario at the other persons discretion but please, let me defend against the bolshevik hordes....
ParaBellum
Glad you've come to appreciate this gem of wargaming, Sickie. If you like I could play a PBEM with you, I'm happy to lead my brave defenders of the Rodina in yet another victorious battle against the fascist oppressors.

Sickie
Parabellum, I sent an e-mail to the adress I found in your profile, asking for a setup. Since that adress could very well not be in use anymore I just thought I would also let you know in this way... Whenever you're ready the primitive bolshevik hordes, aiming to destroy Western Civilisation, will pay dearly for the hubris displayed!
ParaBellum
Sickie, I just sent you the setup. The troops' morale is high, our cause is just, and we recently discovered a stash of Vodka.
flamingknives
Shouldn't that be "for we recently discovered a stash of Vodka?"
Sickie
Para, Maybe you should be slightly worried about a detachment of NKVD troops being on their way to make sure that, in all his au-de-cologne caused enthousiasm, the commander of your unwashed barbarian hordes sent the turn to the right opponent? Your looking for the Goethe quoting, athleticly build aristocrat, smoking a cigarillo, modestly sipping on some fine french cognac while enjoying some belgian chocolats behind the oakwooden maptable... You know the one with the monocle... Edit: My liaison officer just now, and only after my inquieries, came up with, according to him, "a seemingly uninteresting message that was recognized as spam". You'll meet him at the HKL. [ January 22, 2007, 02:56 PM: Message edited by: Sickie ]

I'd have to see the OOB for both sides so I could even begin to judge. Though I think that Sickie may have a chance. By the way, I call next.
realest
Work is slowing for me again. Soon i will be capable of leading my digital warriors to be broken and bloodied due to my lack of H2H play. Hopefully next month i can get a PBEM going again.
jwatts
Cuirassier, to be fair, aren't we all pretty viscious with a bottle of vodka in one hand (half full bottles make me even more viscious) and a machine gun in the other?
Cuirassier
"Cuirassier, to be fair, aren't we all pretty viscious with a bottle of vodka in one hand (half full bottles make me even more viscious) and a machine gun in the other?" Well of course. But no national population wields vodka in one hand and a PPSH in the other as often as the Russians do. And no one therefore matches their experience in drunken, automatic weapon gunfights involving many combatants on a vast, unforgiving frontage.
ParaBellum
Ok, Sickie and yours truly will do an AAR of this battle. We'll take screenshots and notes during the battle and will post the result after the carnage is done and the proud red flags of the mighty soviet army are flying above the captured trenches of the adventurist invaders in the evening sun, the victorious soldiers singing songs in praise of their commander and comrade Stalin.

ParaBellum
My men are advancing on the enemy's positions, no contact has been made yet. The fascist dogs have probably already pulled back in fear of the overwhelming might of the glorious Red Army.
Sickie
While discussing our future agricultural enterprises in the soon to be pacified bolshevik territories a subtle doubt grows in our mind. Shouls we really utilise our shiny, spotless guns against the sorry bands of bewildered patrols who seem convinced by industrial alchohol that their zigzag stumbling represents anything worthy of being called an attack ? Or should we just wait untill they fall down by themselves in delerious nightmares and tenderly escort them to the workcamps where they'll be gratefully accepting their new futures in sowing and harvesting?
Bert Hamoen
After reading this sig: Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend. Albert Camus, I'm beginning to understand the remark of a german fascist before WW2: "just the sound of an intellectual is enough for me to go for my gun !"(parafrased and translated very loosely). Or maybe the quote by the Lord Flashheart when describing Baron von Richthofen says it even better: "what a poof !" Nothing personal of course. Just an observation.

Guest Mike
Is that a 50cl bottle of vodka or a 75cl one??
Sickie
After the barbarian hordes from the east levelled a tactically utter insignificant structure in their alchohol inflicted blind rage, a fine german soldier, proud to be given the honor of operating such a superior piece of equipment as the shiny XXXX which was entrusted to his gentle care, fired with willfull determination on a bundle of rags scrounging through some woods. The muscleflash lit up, reflecting on the regular and amazingly white teeth. This made the straight lines which made out his face stand out even better as he reflected over the loving hands back home who, enriched by endless waves of strife for perfection produced not only this outstanding weapon and ammunition but also his Iron Will which he could feel glowing inside.
