PAK's in the streets

Recommended Posts

The russian 45mm had a very low velocity HE round. It was used against US troops in Korea and could snipe HMGs out of existance.

In Panzerjaeger (forgot the author) the 37mm is used against all types of targets. In some cases to defend against enemy infantry that have got very close. The author describes seeing individuals in his sights and plinking away at them. I believe he runs out of HE and kills enemy troops with AP rounds.

About the vulnerability of AT guns in streets, you've got to remember this was usually just one part of a coordinated attack. For instance, infantry would corner some opposition in a building and keep them bottled-up while the gun was deployed. Anyone who raise his head would get beaten back. The value of the AT gun was that it could make holes in places where bullets wouldn't penetrate. So the enemy would be safely behind a brick wall not risking his neck in an open window when "BAM!" a round comes right through the wall! The AT gunner would be safe as long as his exposure was limited and the accompanying infantry was able to keep any potential opposition pinned.
